“Oh so much better now that I’ve seen you and Freja!” She exclaimed, oh how she couldn’t wait for meals again with all of them! She looked over her brother once, making her he was not hurt or injured before hugging him briefly again just so overcome with so much relief everyone she loved was safe. “I’m so happy the war is over.”
a small smile tugged at his lips as she spoke, nodding. “it’s been too long since i’ve seen you girls. i’ve been worried, you know. how are the netherlands treating you?” he asked, a frown of concern streaking his features. he slung an arm around her as she hugged him once more, grinning. “hopefully things will be peaceful. pretty girls like you and freja have done enough worrying.”

freja
the queen laughed before nudging her older brother gently. “i admit, i am very eager for him to see you again. he was only a tiny little thing when you last saw him that i doubt he remembers anything from that moment.” she said as they walked through the intricately decorated castle walls together. “he always asks about you and i just know he’ll adore you as much as i do. you can teach him everything he has to know about battle and ruling a kingdom and being a big brother … maybe it’ll even inspire you to have a child of your own soon.” freja raised a brow at viktor and moved her free hand to clasp her pregnant belly. “you and vittoria have been married for some time now. i know people are wondering the same thing. i, for one, would very much like to have a niece or nephew of my own.” the queen murmured as she tugged on his arm gently. “what do you think about the matter viktor?”
“i’m sure he’s taken after his valiant uncle and become very strong and handsome.” he grinned, excited himself at the prospect of seeing the child. he was the first of the family, and even though he was heir to the scots, viktor was determined to make sure he was as sturdy as his swedish lineage. he sighed as she spoke ---- he should have known the issue was going to come up. freja was much like him, and unlike the rest of the world, absolutely unafraid of him. not that he’d have the capacity to ever be angry with her. “an heir is important for our kingdom, that is true.” he evaded the question as best he could, before she inquired him more. he gave a sigh, running a callused hand through blonde locks at the mention of the queen. “surely, she shall bear me a child ---- she wouldn’t refuse me. i’d be more comfortable in my own home. i have no desire to be here, or conceive the next king of sweden in a place like this, with all of our allies and enemies in one place. yet, my duties tell me i shall have to, whether i like it or not.”

Hearing her brother’s voice she stopped and turned to him, not even caring about the pinched she hated so much as a child. “Viktor!” She gasped and wrapped her arms around his strong neck. She knew she would see him here but it was still such a treat and blessing to fully feel safe again with her husband and brother here.
he couldn’t help but let out a gruff chuckle as she ignored his jest and embraced him. it was nice to see his young sister ---- glad to see she seemed to be doing quite well without him. “how’s my rose? i’ve missed you, you know. the castle has become so dreary without you.” he pulled away, still smiling. not that he’d ever admit it to anyone, but one of the only reasons he’d come to rome was for the opportunity to see his sisters once more.

vittoria
vittoria was gazing through the enormous room’s contrastingly tiny windows when she heard him talking. to her? probably, but the blonde didn’t leave her eyes off the tree she spotted; chest moving much slower, almost trying to blend in with the embellished curtains, disappearing. the sound of water snapped vitt out of her fantasies, mother’s words echoing in her mind — be your king’s closest servant. closing the gap between them, “let me,” whispered the queen, patting the soft cloth on his damp face. caught off guard by him, blonde’s hands shadowed over now-empty belly. “you have a son.” paradoxically, the flatness of her voice was overshadowed by the agony in her piercing blue eyes, fixed directly at her husband. “he is with the countless men, who died in your name. soil that’s harsh on us is easy on him — he’s sleeping with his people.” the second words left her mouth, vitt felt the unbearable regret filling her, eyes, now, doing their best to avoid their partners. the atmosphere changing so rapidly, the queen decided to act as if she didn’t openly contradicted her husband. “my king knows all, i put my trust in him. if he wants to dine here, we shall. if he wants sons - he will have them.”
normally, he’d shrug off his queen’s soft touch, but he was too tired to care. even though he could freshen himself up just fine without her, he held back his tongue. clearly she was making more efforts than he, and he didn’t feel like being the villain today. he turned away as she spoke, unable to stare at those emotional blue eyes for too long and let his emotions bubble over. “nonsense. i’ll have a son when he’s in my arms, strong and healthy. whatever happened in the past ---- stays in the past.” he stepped away from her, unable to truly feel guilt at leaving her in her own misery when tragedy struck. he was doing what was right for his people at the time, and he’d never regret a choice made for his own people. besides, he wasn’t emotionally equipped to truly processed what had happened. “please. vittoria ---- spare me the fake courtesies. i get that enough out there.” with words less than courteous, he pointed towards the door as he sat back down in his chair. “i know you disagree with everything i’ve said ---- or lacked to say, rather. your sweet lies are weak.”

freja
the queen buried her face into her brother’s chest. even as the years went on, she would always be his younger sister and this stayed with her whenever she missed him. “i just knew you would miss my terrible attempts at piano.” freja smiled as she wiped the tears from her eyes. her mood lifted when she looked up at her brother’s eyes. she was never musically gifted no matter how often she practiced piano, thus causing the whole swedish monarchy to endure the earsore until she was married off. “we must go to alasdair.” she said as she gripped her brother’s arm. “on the way to his quarters you can tell me everything that happened since i last saw you… oh! how’s vittoria?”
it felt good to have her in his vicinity again ---- somewhere he could directly watch over her and her family, and protect them if need be. it almost took him back to the simpler times back in sweden. “nothing like the sound of false piano notes ringing through a castle to make you appreciate silence from time to time.” he jested. he’d never truly admit it, but he missed hearing the off beat music flowing into his chambers late into the day. once she pulled away, he gave her a smile, walking along with her. “i don’t know who’s more excited about our reunion ---- you, or him?” he teased, yet walked on. she could ask him to unhook the moon and give it to her, and he’d do it in a heartbeat. “not anything interesting, i can tell you that much.” at the mention of his wife, he simply shrugged, looking off into the distance. “you’d be better off asking her, if you truly want to know.” he replied with a careless tone. “how’s the king?”

viktor entered his apartments, light eyes settling upon his queen. tall stature fell into a chair as he unbuttoned his vest, scratching at his neck. “the sooner we can get out of this place, the better.” he muttered, gazing out of the open window. words didn’t come easily out of the blonde ---- except the occasional complaint here and there. “i think we’d be best to take our meal in our chambers, my lady.” the words left no space for argument as he called for his squire, giving him command to send for their dinner. he got up as the young boy left, shrugging off the vest and staying in the linen tunic that was under it. he moved past his bride, the one he’d barely seen or spoken to since the war. even on his return, he’d spent much time travelling his country and settling various matters he felt needed his own presence ---- and he was trying to get away from the ominously empty halls of the castle that was once full of life. now, there was no escaping his life, to his dismay. he went to the washbasin to freshen up his sweat-ridden face, giving a sigh. “they’re relentless here. i’m already hearing questions of when my beautiful queen will start bearing me sons. they speak quietly, thinking my men won’t come to me, but they do.” it was the most words spoken to his queen in days.

freja
“i can’t think of something you don’t hate, viktor.” freja grinned up at her older brother. he looked so much like their father when he was viktor’s age that the queen’s glistening blue eyes welled with tears. she was still so incredibly relieved and blessed to not have lost any family during the war that seeing her brother brought back a strong wave of emotions. “i-i’m aching and tired from travel but everything is well. the baby is growing quickly and alasdair is no longer a little one either. he is eager to see his uncle.” she said, blinking back the tears.
being back in his sister’s presence was a blessing ---- after long years of war, he’d seen less and less of her, and finally they were in the same country. he saw the tears threatening to spill over and he gave a small chuckle and shook his head, stopping her and pulling her into his arms. “a face like yours shouldn’t be burdened by tears, you know that.” he spoke into her hair as he held her, pulling away with a grin. “i’m glad to hear. you know the castle halls aren’t the same without you there. i’m eager to see him as well. my first nephew will always hold a special place in my heart, just like his mother.”

the king hummed in agreement — clearly pleased with his new location for the next weeks, or maybe years from what he’s already seen. “ this is definitely an improvement than sleeping on the ground in a middle of a war. ” as the line fell out of his mouth it only took him a second to regret that, realizing it might offend the wrong person.
viktor couldn’t help but let a grunt of laughter fall through his lips as the king of the netherlands spoke. “funny you would say that ---- i was just thinking that there’s nothing i hate more than wearing stuffy suits in this heat and being forced to entertain people. i’d much rather be back on the field.”

“The gardens are so lovely!” She looked up from the rose, the biggest and reddest rose she had ever seen in her life. “I must figure out their secrets and being them home with me to the Netherlands. Or just steal their gardener.”
“i should’ve known that i’d find you around the gardens.” viktor gave a chuckle as he approached his younger sibling, glancing at the rose she was admiring. “i think the first option would be the best. stealing our host’s gardener isn’t very courteous.” he teased as he pinched her arm playfully.

freja
freja brought a porcelain hand up to her face and wiped the beads of perspiration from her forehead as she walked through the italian castle. she’d never expected it to be this hot in italy. it was vastly different from the normally cool climates of sweden and scotland, where she was the most comfortable. “hot here isn’t it?” the queen said softly to no one in particular, her hands rested gently on her pregnant belly.
viktor couldn’t help but let a smile pull at his lips as he walked toward his sister, falling into step with the smaller woman. “hot, stuffy, a thousand more things that i hate.” he sighed, looking at the intricate decorations lining the hallway. “how’s the queen of scots and her belly faring in italy?” he asked with a grin, putting a protective arm around her shoulders.

hi friends !! my name’s liz, i’m 21 from est and this here’s my moody lil baby viktor !! i’m pretty tired but i’d love to plot ( or just talk about the office and become best friends for life ) with y’all while i try to fall asleep. under the cut are a few points about vik while i get his stats up !!
viktor is the oldest of the nystrom family, and he feels the duty of his name and birth down to his bones.
on the outside he can seem very gruff and reserved, but to the few he allows himself to relax with, he loves to tease and amuse people.
being the king is really putting pressure on him since he hadn’t anticipated his father’s death so early. he was prepared everywhere but mentally. he definitely feels as if he can rule a battlefield better than a court.
now that he’s back home, he’s getting restless, wishing he was doing something other than sitting on a velvet cushion and forced to speak to enemies and allies alike.
he’s not the best with formalities and such, and usually leaves official courtesy business to the last minute, or tries to get out of it. he’s never been good with words.
MORE WILL BE UP SOON I PROMISE XOXOXO
