I often see people lusting over machinery here, machinery that to me seems unremarkable and mundane. I have to think it must be a beautiful way to live, to find such visceral beauty in the technology we use every day. The engine of a car or the fans of a desktop computer--are they not organs, lovingly manufactured by hand? Are the wires of a playstation not the veins of a creature we chose to create? These are things I've thought of on my own, but never assigned such a deep meaning to until I discovered this phenomenon. I still have a lot to learn about being alive.

Caretaker is a creature that feeds on others’ pain - not in the sense of causing it, but in the sense of truly eating that pain. They visit from time to time, when things are particularly unendurable, and leave whumpee blissfully numb. Whumpee has such an unfortunate life…no one has ever fed Caretaker so well. And whumpee has never experienced such an effective painkiller.
