JAMES POTTER !

              trying to hide his tiredness from her was proving to be a completely useless effort. james gave up, blinking at her deliberately slow before outright ignoring the comment and reaching for the sugar pot. he brought it nearer to him and used the measuring spoon to put way too much into his tea.

              “it remains to be seen what you know about sympathy, anyway.“ he chewed his next bite relatively slow, mindful of the pair of bright green eyes still watching him closely. apart of him thought to ask if there was something she needed, but that was mostly his current crankier side talking.

              “might have been, you should’ve come by and let us fix this situation.“ james smirked a bit devilishly. gesturing to his own out of control hair, despite meaning lily’s own carefully done french plait .

               lily watched, disgust on her features, as he filled his tea with sugar. that’s how you ruin your teeth...and your health, she wanted to say. but she realised how much like a mother that sounded, and though she valued being the mother hen to her friends, to james it felt off. wrong, in a way.

              “ i am very sympathetic to those who deserve it, thank you very much. ” she put up a front around james, perhaps sometimes gave off an aura of not caring, but she did. lily was quite an emotional person, something her mum knew better than anyone. 

              “ even a miracle worker couldn’t fix that mop you call hair. ” the joke was too easy to make, yet lily couldn’t help herself. his hair was once an annoyance to her, she would rant and rave about how he thought he was so sexy and it so wasn’t, but now she found it endearing. not that she would admit that.

              “ look, james, if you need any help figuring out your schedule, ” she shrugged one shoulder nonchalantly, as if she offered to spend more time alone with him everyday, “ i can help. you shouldn’t let yourself get so exhausted. you’ll be no use to anyone. ”

MARLENE MCKINNON !

 Marlene was just walking down the stairs when she eyes the bloody poltergeist in act- she had been victim of his game for so many times that she understood why Lily squeed at the sensation of ink laying onto her head. walking down besides her, she laughed a little. “ if you stay still, i’ll get rid of that fashion disaster that’s happening in your head right now.”

               lily could hear the giggles of the crowd, just a few a first, causing her face to start to flush a light pink in embarrassment. thankfully the chatter and laughter was soon broken by a beautifully familiar voice, one in which lily had never been so happy to hear. “ please ! i swear i’m about to hex that ghost right back to hell. ”

EMMA VANITY !

◤ ⋆*✶ emma was silent for a second, weighing her options. what would be the least likely to land her in trouble ?? ❛ i was taking a walk. ❜ as soon as the words left her mouth, she knew how suspicious they sounded, even though they were the truth. 

               it couldn’t have been more obvious that emma was lying, and lily’s suspicious nature flared up. however she knew that going in all guns blazing would be a poor choice. she dropped her arms back to her sides and softened her features. “ i know i’m probably the last person you want to talk to, but if something’s troubling you then, ” she shrugged, knowing her appeal was probably futile, “ i’m here. ”

FRANK LONGBOTTOM !

frank tried to hide the amusement on his face by wiping the crumbs from the corner of his mouth and shrugged.

“ come on , lil. that woman gets younger and YOUNGER looking on every new record cover. you can’t honestly say that she’s NOT ? “

               “ wow, frank, ” the slightest hint of a smirk appeared on the redhead’s lips. “ i didn’t realise you were such a fan. at least i know what to get you for christmas now. ”

JAMES POTTER !

              only after james heard his name uttered by such a perfect voice, did he barely crack his eyes open to see. shaking his head in an attempt to startle himself awake, nearly ended up with his face smacking against the wooden surface in front of him. he saw lily, blurry and under a half lidded gaze, but there was no mistaken the silhouette or the cascade of red hair for anyone else. especially not for him.

              sheer determination of will kept james from just completely collapsing. certain as he may have been that he was dreaming, he couldn’t be sure. it very well could have been a dream though. all the evidence suggested that much. james couldn’t remember getting out of bed or changing into his school uniform. he barely remembered taking a seat and pouring milk. it was really a miracle that he hadn’t just come down to the meal in his pants, sleep walking. this thought occurred and james was very suddenly awake.

              “sorry, sorry.“ he straightened out his tie, relieved to have clothes on.

              “i’m fine, honestly. just a bit tired, that’s all.“

               it was almost gut instinct to roll her eyes, and it took a great force of willpower for her not to. they were friends now, after all, and she didn’t want to revert back to old ways. even if old habits do die hard.

              “ i’d offer up my sympathy but something tells me you bought his upon yourself. ” she was only partly joking. lily, maybe more than anyone, knew just how demanding seventh year could be. it was hard to juggle having a social life with school work and head duties. and yet lily still managed to get eight hours of sleep a night.

              “ let me guess, you were up late with the boys gossiping and plaiting each other’s hair ? ”

EMMA VANITY !

◤ ⋆*✶ ❛ i was practicing quidditch, lost track of time. ❜ the lie slipped easily off emma’s lips. ❛ i was just heading back to the dorm room. ❜

               “ do you often play quidditch in the pitch black ? ” the head girl asked, crossing her arms over her chest. a sure sign emma was pushing her luck. “ you could make this easier on yourself and just tell the truth. ”

DAISY HOOKUM !

‘ lennon’s alright. i think he’s more YOUR type though. in fact: those circular glasses he’s made popular remind me of a certain somebody. head boy, general mischief maker, mostly a massive pain in the ass to everybody including myself. ring any bells ? ’ daisy rebuked with a quirk on wax stained lips, no malice in her tone. if they were being honest - john lennon’s girlfriend was more her type than anybody, and yet she wasn’t ready to come out and label herself smitten with yoko ono. YET.  ‘ oh, i did actually. thought it was having a nice leisurely stroll, so i just let it do it’s thing. want me to help you look for them ? i think it headed in the courtyard’s direction. ’ 

               “ no ! ” she was, perhaps, too quick to protest. though she and james didn’t have the volatile relationship they used to, and they had been enjoying a friendship for some weeks, she still didn’t appreciate people trying to tell her what her feelings were. “ james and i are just friends, that’s all. besides, i doubt he has the voice of john lennon. that man could sing the phone book and i would still cry. ” 

              she perked up, however, at the mention of her missing cat. she was sure athena would find her way home eventually, but it had been some time and lily was worried. “ that would be fantastic, thank you. she has a bad habit of getting lost. ”

AMELIA BONES !

“Or the impact might force the knowledge out of their head. If they had any to begin with..”She looked down at the book lily was holding.”’You have to read?’”She questioned with a concern look on her face. Amelia knew not to judge a book by it’s cover but she couldn’t help it. Everyone judges a book by its cover- even if you tell them not to.”How it is?”

               gently she folded down the corner of the page, she was always losing her bookmarks, and closed the book. “ i mean, i don’t physically have to. ” she let out a small laugh. “ my dad’s a bit of a book snob, he’s always recommending i read the ‘old classics’. it’s good, though. you should give it a go. ”

              “ merlin’s pants ! ” the exclamation left lily’s mouth as something wet landed on her freshly washed red hair. glancing up, the head girl caught sight of the perpetrator of the crime. “ peeves ! ” lily screeched as the poltergeist cackled away. blushing a deep shade of red, having realised just how many people had witnessed the altercation, lily reached up to find out exactly had landed on her hair. her fingers were covered in dark black ink. “ brilliant. ”

EMMELINE VANCE !

Six years and a month in this castle. Six years and a month and she still managed to get herself tripped by the ever moving stairs. At first, the trip had been so small that she was sure she would be able to catch herself. However, when her gaze rested on her feet, the ceiling, and back to her feet again, the blonde had accepted the fact that the trip was a little more intense than what her mind had previously understood. Her body’s thud echoed through the mostly empty halls, but it was her groan that carried farthest. “You didn’t see that,” She insisted while rubbing her head, noticing someone’s shoes before her as she sat on the ground trying to regain her composure.

              lily had never been one to stand aside or pass by when someone was hurt, whether it was serious or not. as someone with ambitions to join the healer career, and with a heart of pure gold, it simply wasn’t in her nature. 

              “ are you hurt ? ” she asked, fingers itching to reach for her wand should a healing spell be necessary. “ that looked like a nasty fall. ”

AMELIA BONES !

She smiled over Lily then shook her head.”Throw my potions book at their head? Don’t think that would help either Lily.” She laughed silently, and turned her head to face the book that was in lily’s hand. “What are you reading? Looks kinda…Scary”

              “ the impact might force the knowledge into their head. ” lily offered in way of explanation. “ then you wouldn’t need to tutor them. it’s a win/win. ” 

              emerald eyes glanced down at the book in hand, one she had been utterly enthralled in only a minute ago. “ the strange case of dr jekyll and mr hyde. it’s one of my dad’s favourites. apparently it’s one of those books you simply have to read before you die. ”

FRANK LONGBOTTOM !

“ just, HEAR ME OUT , okay ? “ he said, shovelling another piece of toast into his mouth, wiping his hands on his jumper before continuing. “ dolly parton ? TIME TRAVELLER. ”

              a delicate eyebrow raised above emerald eyes as the girl digested her friend’s words. it was, quite possibly, one of the strangest things she had ever heard. 

              “ so..what you’re saying is dolly parton is a time lord ? ”

SYBILL TRELAWNEY !

HAZY eyes, an unfocused look with a kitten in her hand. a small sigh was released from her lips, “did someone lose track of you ? ” she spoke to the small white fluff of a thing, she was sure that the owner had to be close ! the kitten was too small to be left to roam around the castle without it’s owner ! her hands wrapped around the kittens midsection, facing the kitten towards a passerby, her arms extended, the kitten only inches from the persons face, “do you know him ! er- her ? them ! ”

               the suddenly appearance of a kitten on her line of sight caused the girl to stumble back slightly, obviously startled. her expression soon softened, however, as lily had always held a deep love for cats. especially small, fluffy kittens.

              “ i don’t. ” the redhead couldn’t take her eyes of the kitten as she reached out to pet it, a satisfied purr coming from the animals. “ hello gorgeous, ” she muttered, “ i bet someone is missing you. ”

EMMA VANITY !

◤ ⋆*✶ MORE AND MORE often these days, emma needed time to herself. when the whole world thought you were somebody you weren’t, you just needed a couple hours where you didn’t have to pretend. emma got that time at night, when she could walk through the castle halls alone. or at least, she thought she was alone. a door swung shut behind her, and emma startled, turning around to see a figure standing there.  ❛ what are YOU doing out so late ?? ❜

               “ i’m HEAD GIRL. ” the words left glossy pink lips without a second thought. she had been patrolling the castle for a good hour now and, having split off from her partner somewhere down the road, the redhead was starting to tire. “ i think the better questions is what are you doing out so late ? it’s past curfew, but i’m sure you knew that. ”

DAISY HOOKUM !

‘ … and then i said,  how could you possibly think that paul mccartney is HOTTER than george harrison ? ’  the recently turned dishwasher blonde exclaims between exuberant chews of drooble’s best blowing gum, a new brand of sweet she had recently taken a liking to, turning and sighing dolefully as she waves a hand in complete dismissal. it’s only upon feeling her irritation build that daisy decides to change the subject of the conversation she’d unwittingly taken a hold of by it’s reins, eyeing the other with discontempt written into her frown lines. ‘ not that it matters … anybody with taste knows i’m right. anyways, what was it that you were saying again ? ’

               “ i’m more of a john lennon girl anyway. ” the gryffindor shrugged nonchalantly. it was nice to be able to talk about something as muggle as the beatles. most just stared at her as if she had just grown two heads when she mentioned the band. 

              “ i was just wondering if you had seen a cat run through here ? a ginger tabby ? athena’s decided to go wandering off again. ”

AMELIA BONES !

“That is not even remotely correct, polyjuice potion allows the drinker to temporarily assume the form of another person and it cannot be used for a wizard or muggle to take an animal form. You can change age, sex, and race by taking the Polyjuice Potion, but not species.“ It was hard listening to the other getting questions wrong right in front of Amelia. It was also hard for Amelia not even correcting the other. She didn’t mean to sound rude, she simply wanted to help them out.”You know, if you need any help studying for this exam, I can help” She gave a small smile to the other then going back to her book.

               a smirk graced dainty lips as lily listened to her best friend scold another. she had, on many occasion, been on the receiving end of such a tone. most of their group had. so it was nice, for once, to hear it directed at another. 

              “ you might as well throw your potions book at their head and be done with it. ” the redhead joked, finally glancing up from her own book.

JAMES POTTER !

      James wasn’t tired. No, that point had been reached nearly two days ago. By now, he was so exhausted that he was falling asleep at breakfast. His usual spot at the Gryffindor table had been occupied, which led him to finding a place near the far end. Even with the surrounding commotion of the Great Hall, the Quidditch player sat slumped over, with his head nearly in his cereal bowl. Between his responsibilities as Head Boy and practicing for the quickly approaching game season, he barely found the time to study for his N.E.W.T.s or give the flying lessons to the second years he’d promised, much less sleep. “Just five more minutes, mum,“ he grumbled, swatting away when a hand touched his shoulder. Whoever the hand belonged to didn’t seem to be giving up on getting his attention. Huffed, but still refusing to open his eyes, James said, “What do you want?“

               lily liked to be early. too early, some might say. often she was the first to wake up in her dormitory, tip toeing around so as to not wake her roommates. as per most mornings lily was one of the first to enter the great hall, her uniform immaculate and her hair plaited down her back. she took her usual spot at the gryffindor table, helping herself to servings of scrambled egg, bacon, and wheat toast. popped up against her glass of pumpkin juice was a book, one of her favourite muggle ones, with the pages turning thanks to a flick of her wand. all in all it was a rather enjoyable morning.

              with breakfast consumed, and her chapter finished, lily packed up with the intent to head back to the common room. she had time to spare and, as such, would be able to spend some time reading before she met up with her friends. however, when she noticed a familiar face at the far end of the table, her plan changed. 

              “ james ? ” his name left her lips ever so softly as she took the seat next to him. 

              “ for merlin’s sake, james, don’t drown in your bloody cereal. ”
