Faye had not seen Artemis in years, since their paths had crossed in Italy. Artemis was the first real friend that Faye had made after being taken by hunters and she was sad when they had to move on into another town. She never thought she was going to see the girl again and she definitely didnât think that Artemis would be a werewolf. âItâs me..â Faye closed her eyes tightly and opened them again, half expecting the girl to be gone in a split second. She thought maybe she had finally lost her mind but Artie was still there, and this was very much real. âI canât believe youâre here, and youâre-â Faye shook her head. âYouâre a wolf?â She had so many questions about what had happened in the years since theyâd last seen each other. Obviously a lot had changed and given how strict Artieâs family was, Faye was just glad that the girl was alive.Â
thereâs a very real fear coursing through artemisâ veins now. was faye in beacon hills alone, or were the hunters she traveled with close by ? this was the first time in nearly three years that the omega felt as though she needed to run again -- not from faye, never from faye -- but from everything. from this life, this town. if her family caught wind of her whereabouts, everything would be over for her in the blink of an eye. and all while sheâs thinking of this, artemis has yet to move. sheâs hardly even blinked since she saw it was faye that had body slammed her. âi- ..â she winces a bit at her friendâs discovery, her shoulders caving inward. there was something so shameful about her newfound status in the supernatural world, at least in her own eyes. âi guess i have a bit of ... explaining to do ..â she murmurs, running a hand through her bubblegum pink curls. âiâm an omega,â she gently begins, swallowing thickly. this was going to be much harder than artie had thought, and sheâs barely begun to explain her situation. âit was a hunt gone wrong, if you can believe that.â sometimes artie herself had a difficult time believing it, and it had happened to her. she was the best of her siblings, the heir to the dâangelo name. a legacy in the making. artemis could vividly remember being bit, and the searing pain that had followed. and then sheâd woken up the next morning in the cellar beneath her familyâs home, bound in iron chains and disappointment. oh, how far this angel has fallen. âi ran away. ended up here, which begs the question ... what are you doing here ?â

âCourse not!â She chirped, smiling widely.  âBe my guest, Iâd love company! As long as you donât mind some talking, Iâve been told Iâm pretty chatty,â the blonde admitted with a shrug. It didnât bother everyone, but considering the fact that most people in this town were unfriendly to begin with? A warning seemed fair. Â
âah, talk all you want. iâve been told iâm a decent listener,â the omega chuckles, shifting so that she can see the pages easier. she has to squint a bit to get a better grasp at the words, but it wasnât too difficult. âwhatâs all this for again ?â

âSure if you want to call âdecentlyâ as people pretending like they were things that wouldnât even happen in this part of California, but of course, things that go bump in the night couldnât possibly exist in real life, could they?â She questions with a tilt of her head. âWhat are you?â Rosie bluntly asks, knowing that beating around the bush was easier and quicker to finding out what this town could potentially be dealing with. âCanât judge a book by its cover, of course I have taste, oh do I get bonus points if I act like I actually care?â She questions and rolls her eyes at the other. âNobody would have cared, but go off I guess.â Rosie mumbles. âThe Lightning Thief Musical, Be More Chill, Waitress, Hamilton, Hairspray, Six, Wicked, She Loves Me, Les Mis, the list could go on and on..â
âwhat am i ?â she repeats the question, finally forcing herself to look away from the blonde. âa funny question to ask in this town. is anyone ever what they truly say they are ?â and now artemis is just beating around the bush. her situation was so difficult for her to talk about -- she was raised to believe that werewolves were monsters. thatâs what sheâs come to think of herself. admitting to someone that youâve become the monster that youâve always been trained to hunt and destroy brought a bitter taste to her mouth. âthe better question to ask is what are you ? because from what i can tell, youâre a broadway connoisseur. those shows you listed ? brilliant. i saw wicked live, once. breathtaking. have you seen anything live ?â

âItâs fine,â Talia replied automatically before frowning when she realized what sheâd said. âI mean, itâs not.. But thereâs not much either of us can do to fix it except wait for the fucker to leave something behind. If itâs still around then it probably wonât be too long.â The brunette sighed as she knelt down and looked one last time before getting back up and brushing her own hands off on her pants. At the other girlâs question, Talia visibly grimaced as she shrugged a bit. Considering the banshee technically died from the attack, it was safe to say she was most definitely not fine. But it wasnât like Talia could easily explain that. âSheâs not doing so great, but I think sheâll be okay. I hope she will be at least.â She shook Artemisâ hand and nodded slightly as she raised her eyebrows. âTalia. Sorry for being a bit, uh.. harsh before. Itâs really hard to trust in this town.â And even then, Talia still didnât trust Artemis. The brunette had pretty bad trust issues to begin with, but adding a town like Beacon Hills into that made those trust issues ten times worse.
âright ...â artemis replies after a few moments, as if she were waiting for talia to go off on another â this isnât fine â rant. âwell, youâre not wrong. itâs almost as if ...â and then she trails off again, mentally kicking herself for what sheâs about to say. this is truly the last thing she wants to be doing right now, but she canât hide the fact that getting into a hunterâs mindset again is exhilarating. âitâs almost .. well .. what if itâs waiting for bait ? or .. what i mean is .. what if we bait it ? draw it back into the open to end it ?â she looks up at talia with a questioning gaze, and anyone paying the slightest bit of attention could see that the gears in artieâs mind were turning, and boy, were they turning fast. âlike a mouse trap.â

âRight.â Lydia nodded her head in response. Honestly she didnât know they graduated in the same year. Lydiaâs life was such a whirlwind throughout the last few years of high school that it was hard for her to keep up with anything. She wasnât too focused on learning the names of people in her graduating class- keeping her friends alive was kind of number one on her priority list. âWell itâs nice to meet you too, Artie.â She smiled politely. Lydia usually wasnât the most friendly to strangers but this was a welcome distraction from her stress. âWhat have you been doing since graduation?â
âitâs nice to officially meet you too, lydia.â the smile that stretches across artieâs lips is genuine, and there is something in her eyes -- something that resembles joy. itâs been so long since artemis has allowed herself the chance to really sit and talk with someone. long enough that sheâd nearly forgotten just how nice it was to hold a conversation. âoh, nothing much. just been taking a few online classes here and there,â and avoiding a very powerful family of hunters, but that wasnât anything that anyone needed to know quite yet. âand you ? what have you been working on ? iâm going to take a wild guess and say it has something to do with mathematics.â

Taliaâs eyes narrowed a little bit as she tried to think about the girlâs questions, not really sure what to make of the sudden shift. It seemed like the colorful haired girl had done this a lot before. It definitely raised a couple of suspicions again, but for different reasons. Talia tried to keep her tone neutral though as she looked down at the barren dirt again and sighed slightly. âNo, I havenât found anything really. I donât have a scent to go off of and thereâs not really any tracks out here.â She admitted, feeling pretty frustrated that she was coming up this empty. She hated the idea that the wolf that attacked Lydia was still out there. âIf itâs still in Beacon Hills? Iâd say itâs pretty likely. Whoever it was, they messed my friend up pretty bad.â She admitted as she rubbed the back of her neck and furrowed her eyebrows. âI wonder if itâs just a regular wolf, but itâs almost never that here.â
the omega could sense taliaâs frustration, and offered up a meek smile in hopes of somehow calming the other wolf down. she knew it probably wouldnât help in the end, but it didnât hurt to try. âno tracks, no scent ... seems like weâre at a bit of a standstill. sorry about that,â artemis sighs, brushing her hands off on her shorts as she stands. itâs been years since she last hunted anything supernatural, and as much as she wanted to help, she wasnât about to randomly start again. not unless this fabled wolf came after her directly. was this subject to change ? perhaps, if properly convinced. âis your friend alright now ?â she questions, turning to look further out across the clearing, stray curls floating in the breeze. ânothing in beacon hills is normal. that much, i think everyone knows.â artemis pauses for a moment to glance back at talia, before holding her hand out. âiâm artemis,â she purposefully chose to leave off her last name out of fear that it would be recognized by anyone who knew of the powerful italian family of hunters. âyou are ?â

âno worries. my knee will heal soon,â she reassured her with a small smile. kira was glad that the girl didnât question her about the book or what was on her laptop. perhaps she was already aware of what was going on in town recently. âoh, me too! maybe iâve seen you around at school before, but my memory can be fuzzy sometimes. anyway, iâm kira. nice to meet you.â
âthatâs reassuring,â artemis quips, awkwardly rubbing her palms on the back of her thighs as she continues to rock back and forth on her tip toes. âyeah -- i definitely remember seeing you in the halls and stuff .. nice to officially meet you though, kira. iâm artemis.â she chooses then to take notice to what kira is working on, hazel hues scanning over the laptop screen. âyou out here looking for some big, bad wolf too ?â

âBoth of those things actually, and who says that anybodyâs crying wolf? Unless you mean it literally of course. Thereâs hardly anybody who doesnât know about the mysteries of this place, not unless they are really just lying to themselves.â She points out with a small shrug as she blinks and makes her expression go blank once more. âIâve always related better to Maureen.â She replies and looks down at her nails for a moment. âI donât like meeting people, it takes some time to adjust to them and I can hold a civilized conversation if I really wanted to.â
âboth, hm ? interesting.â artemis tilts her head to the side, tapping her fingernails on her calves. âno mystery in beacon hills goes unspoken. though, they do get covered up pretty decently.â it was the truth, after all. animal attacks, ritualistic pagans crossing through town, whatever it may be, someone always found a way to make it less than what it actually was. âwell, color me impressed, just rosie. you do have taste ! and here i thought you were just another stick in the mud. a self proclaimed maureen johnson, right here in beacon hills ! who would have thought weâd ever see the day ?â her teasing smile takes on a bit of genuine interest, and she pauses for a moment. â... are you into any other musicals ?â

Lydia laughed quietly at the comment and nodded her head. There werenât too many people out there that used Math as a tool for clearing their minds. It was natural to Lydia, though. With the supernatural problems that always haunted her, she enjoyed being able to focus on something much more âreal worldâ. The little break was much needed. Lydia moved over so that she could make room for the girl when she asked to sit down. She looked at her for a brief moment before smiling softly. âI know you, right?â The strawberry blond asked. âOr at least I recognize you. You went to Beacon High?â She didnât know her name or anything, but Lydia did know this girl was not a stranger to the town. âIâm Lydia.â
artemis takes lydia shifting a bit as an open invitation to sit, and with that, she does. a small smile of her own plays at her lips and she finds herself genuinely excited to have initiated some form of conversation, rather than allowing herself to blend into the background any longer. âuh -- yeah, you might ? i did go to school with you,â she brings a hand up to scratch the top of her head, a rather sheepish look taking over her expression. ânice to officially meet you, lydia. iâm artemis ... or artie ... or ... well, whatever you want to call me honestly. i answer to it all.â a quiet chuckle follows and she shrugs her shoulders meekly, moving to rest her chin on her waiting fist. âwe graduated the same year.â

Riley grinned, lifting the book in the air to show the other girl.  âItâs just some old history of the town stuff,â she shrugged. Sheâd been doing some catch up on the history of Beacon Hills, filling in the blanks that the supernatural tended to leave in official records. The blonde had also been doing some more research on banshees, but that wasnât something she was willing to advertise to strangers.  âItâs kinda boring but kinda cool, you know? I just moved here in the past year so Iâm a little behind.âÂ
the omega unceremoniously plops down beside riley, leaning over to scan the pages of the book that rileyâd been pouring herself into before having been interrupted by yours truly. she rents her chin in the open palm of her hand, hazel hues flying back up to the blondeâs face. âsounds fun. mind if i join ?â

âItâs people like you that make me wonder what the hell youâre doing in this kind of town.â She points out with a wave of her hand. âGrumpy? And here I thought that I was being so generous.â Rosie retorts with her best innocent face before rolling her eyes again. âIâm always like this so either get used to it, or go away.â
âthis kind of town ...â artemis muses lightly, legs swinging. âdo -- do you mean the kind of town where things mysteriously go bump in the night ? where events happen that, miraculously, no one can ever seem to explain ? the kind of town where one person is totally fine on monday but then come tuesday morning, theyâre dead as a door nail ? is that the kind of town youâre talking about ?â her own faux innocence matches rosieâs, the cherry on top being the little quirk of her eyebrow at the end of her sentence. âor -- do you mean this kind of town in the sense that itâs boring as shit with a lot of crazies who cry wolf ?â the omega sits up a little straighter, folding her arms over her knees. âooh, i like the âtake me or leave meâ attitude. ever seen rent ? i bet youâd love joanne. definitely a character that seems right up your alley.â

Two years meant that this girl had been around for quite awhile now, and that automatically knocked down a little of Taliaâs suspicions. Whoeverâ Or whatever this new wolf was, clearly it was new otherwise it probably wouldâve been attacking people for much longer. And if Lydia couldnât even take it down? Talia was picturing someone pretty big. And for all she knew, maybe the wolf couldnât even shift back into a human. All of that stuff varied depending on how powerful it was. So, Talia decided maybe she didnât need to keep probing. It wasnât like she was scared. âIâm looking for a wolf. A big, fully shifted one that attacked my friend. So sorry if I came off a bit aggressive, but itâs hard to trust anyone in this town.â
the small smile playing at artieâs lips disappears completely at the news sheâs told. a big wolf ? fully shifted and everything ? good lord, that sounds like a handful. her eyebrows scrunch together and she takes a few steps closer to talia, eyes trained on the ground. âi take it you were out here looking for tracks ?â she questions, kneeling close to the dirt. this was what sheâd trained her whole life to do, before being bit by that wolf. âdid you come up empty or have you found any decent leads ?â she glances over her shoulder at talia, a single eyebrow raised. âwhat are the chances that itâll attack again ?â

Faye was enjoying the nicer weather in Beacon Hills. The last place sheâd been before that was Chicago where it was always too cold and rainy to do anything. She was an outdoors person and loved nature, so being able to take advantage of that was a nice change of pace. Faye went for a jog around town whenever she could. During the daytime, Beacon Hills seemed like a fairly safe town. She couldâve easily been fooled if she didnât know all of the monsters that went bump in the night. The houses were big and the neighbors were friendly, it was a town sheâd seen in movies. But nothing was ever as it seemed, right? Still, Faye wasnât too worried when she was running around. She was more focused on the jog and not paying much attention to her surroundings, resulting in Faye colliding with someone. âSorry.â She mumbled, not really even looking at the person until she caught a familiar scent mixed with that of a werewolf. Faye looked up immediately, eyes wide. âArtemis?â
she wasnât entirely sure how sheâd ended up on this trail. it wasnât her usual one that she walked most mornings -- in fact, she hardly recognized it at all. but something in her gut told her that this was the trail to take today, and so here she was, aimlessly walking with music blaring through her earbuds. perhaps thatâs why her senses were all out of wack, otherwise she probably would have heard and felt fayeâs imminent arrival. sheâs watching her feet as she walks, completely unsuspecting of the collision about to take place, nostrils flaring at only the last possible second when fayeâs body slams into her own. artemis goes skidding backwards, hands lashing out to grip onto a branch to keep her from falling, only for her to ultimately fail and end up on her ass anyways. she blinks up at the sky for a second, numbness spreading across her body at the sound of her name. the wolf jumps to her feet, brushing herself off with wide eyes trained on faye, almost as if she could hardly believe what she was seeing. if faye was here, then other hunters ... artemis swallows a thick lump forming in her throat, standing up a little straighter. âfaye ... is that really you ?â
