Finally, after about working on this for 3 months on and off, here is the finished 20 style challenge.
I tried to stay in the colour spectrums used in the original styles, but I had to darken the skin here and there.
Will post the individuals soon. Just gotta go to work…

One of 20 styles I’m doing for a challenge and I liked how this came out!
Ranma 1/2 has been one of my favourite animes for forever and I got back into watching it for the fifth time, because of this challenge! Sadly they don’t really feature curly hair or darker skin, so I had to go with the next best thing to keep the style as accurate as possible.
You can consider this a sneek peak? or wip?

Sort of a redesign of my Tiefling Sorceress, Yavari.
Had to pull an allnighter to fix my schedule and my tablet was acting up, so whop, some traditional art!

Original Drawing Oh dear, blast from the past coming this way. So much to say with this comparison... I remember wanting her to look down on the viewer, both figuartively and literally. The poor choice of a rather high horizon was really counter intuitive or that, really. She just turned out to be another smiling girl, although it did look somewhat intimidating? Her design was overly complicated, somthing that I realised quite fast and tried to fix in the same year, her post just looked awkward. To tell the truth, I can't really look at the colours used in the original and say with confidence: "Hey, I really like that haircolour with those red-tones!" The spade (yes, that was supposed to be a spade) on her cheek was something, that tied in with the use of this character, but really threw her face off. Background wise, I already said, that the angle was poorly chosen. However, I do have to admit, that I'm surprised at the quality of the background itself, especially for back then. I only recently got back to trying to draw backgrounds, so seeing something from the past being somewhat cohesive is nice, I guess. I tried fixing my main issues with the new version, as well as adjusting it to my current style. I remember, that back then I was able to finish a drawing in about 4 hours in one session. Today I have to stretch my work out to be able to get multiple pictures done. All in all I think the drawing to the right took me about 13 hours in total? Including the experimentation wiht the background, which as previously said, is something I'm still working on. I think that's evident in the windowframe. I would have fixed the vaue, but the light colouration actually gives it something magical? If we now concentrate on Valencia's body language, you can guess what she might be thinking. The shoulder facing the viewer is only slightly lower than the other one, a sign that she 'lowers' herself to look at us. And her look is one of superiority with a slight smirk on her lips. All in all, I am content with my improvement in the last six years and am looking forward to see where I will be in another six years. I might have written too much for this comparison. After all, the picture should speak for itself.

So for my module in uni I had to basically participate in the penguin contest, but had the choice if I want to submit or not.
This is one of two projects I have done for it.

So a while back my university was approached by the german publisher dieZeit to illustrate a series for their (then) upcoming magazine about murderers.
I have been assigned the article dealing with the only woman represented, Gesche Gottfried. She was a murderer active in 17th century Bremen and poisoned 15 people, of which most were relatives and close friends.
The picture itself is a mash of my own illustration in the background and a contemporary etching, which has been made available to me thanks to dieZeit.
The magazine has been published on 1st January 2018, so if you are located in Germany or have access to dieZeit, I’d be delighted if you picked up a copy.
