Now that Halloween is over and this years event has come and gone, we have decided to share the thought process behind one of the most well received features with all of you!
Through careful market research, reviews of countless weapon stats, and of course a look at the feedback from you, Planetmen, we were able to determine that something was missing from this game. Sure, Hesh lightnings are fun. The Lasher is also a great and balanced part of the game, much like the Thumper. However, we didnt like that these engaging and diverse features were locked behind certain classes, or the need to pull a vehicle. Thats when we had a brilliant idea: create a grenade version of the Thumper, with, of course, longer burn times and an even bigger radius.
It was a stroke of genius! Now, there was no need for pesky, tactical room clears. Simply throw a bunch of these bad boys in and youre good to go! And the best part? Due to the long duration of the burn effect and the fact that multiple grenades would stack their effects, those annoying medics had no way to heal their allies, or even themselves, turning this useless and outdated class into the obsolete fleshbags that theyve always have been. Heavy assaults for the win, am I right?
A nightmare like this was just the right touch of Halloween spirit that this game needed. Never before have we become so close to replicating the feeling of watching a horror movie ingame. You could almost smell the dread in the air when those orange fuckers got flung through the doors, and if you happened to be on the receiving end, you could experience a very realistic feeling of helplessness while watching your squadmates die around you, knowing you were soon to follow.
Unfortunately, there was, what must have been a loud minority, screaming for a nerf almost immediately. But, since we personally adored this feature too much, it took us a while to comply. Ulitmately, the grenades, (lovingly dubbed “perfectly-balanced-babies” in our studio), received a nerf to their radius, stopped stacking and got reduced burn times. Not too much though, this game simply cant exist without a certain level of aids.
This step pained us, of course, but for you, dear community, we will obviously do everything. We are sure that all of us are looking forward to next Halloween, during which we will be adding a new, much needed mechanic: Players with bounties who are killed turn into ghosts for a set amount of time, during which they are unkillable, but can still damage everyone around them. SpoooOOOooookyyyy!!
