You can say “trans man” and for many people there’s a mental image that pops in their head. You can show top surgery scars on an advertisement and enough people will know what that means well enough to be angry that they’re “encouraging young girls to mutilate themselves.” We literally had a very well known celebrity come out as a trans man and watched the reaction from the public.

You can be a trans man who doesn’t pass as a cis man or a cis woman and is definitely read as a trans man.

You can be a cis man who gets mistaken for a trans man because you “kinda look like it”.

If you want to acknowledge the reality of trans men’s lives, you can’t pretend anymore that our existence is some total mystery to transphobes that hasn’t been discovered yet. They know about us. Stop pretending they don’t.
