“I suppose it will.” He felt his cheeks heat at her compliments, though Emily’s words rang in his head, don’t go getting a swelled head over it George Crabtree, and he felt his smile fade slightly. Seems his pining days for her weren’t over. “Yes, well, you’re really nice and fun to have a round as well. Shall we get going then?”

“You seem to be a knowledgeable guy, I trust your judgment.” Jess gestured towards the door. “Lead the way, George! I do have one request.” She paused and looked at him. “You gotta show me the biggest dinosaur they’ve got.”

“Then I think she’d like you being here at this station house,” George responded after a moment. “Most everyone inside has character, they’re all good people.” He leaned back against the brick wall behind him, “Have you been keeping up with the Olympics this year?”

“I think she would too. Doin’ my part an’ all that.” Jess nodded. “I’ve been tryin’.” She sighed. She’d only really been able to watch what she could catch at bars or during a rare free moment. “I’ve noticed the Olympic spirit runs deep here.”

“Well Detective is a nice man… a good man.” He smiled back at her before glancing up at the stars once more. Chuckling softly at her comment, “I think Aunt Azalea well be quite pleased to meet you – all of them will be.” He nodded as she mentioned Newfoundland and sighed, “One things for sure, there isn’t as much light pollution there as there is here… you can see many more stars than what we’re looking at.”

“He sounds it.” Jess had yet to really interact with the detective, she spent most of her time around Inspector Brackenreid, or wandering around alone. She knew she’d have to go back to Brooklyn soon enough. Jess stared up at the stars and sighed. “My mama would have loved you. She liked people who were excitin’, people who had character. You’re just the kind o’ person she’d want me to know.”

“Yea? Good. Be sure to look at the entrance of the building, they recently redid it a few years ago and it’s quite stunning. A mix of the old and new.” His smile turned to a grin as she asked for him to join her and he nodded, “I’d love to accompany you. Though I cant promise I’ll be much better of a guide than the museum map, I haven’t been in a couple of years.”

“I’ll have to take a look.” His excitement and smile were contagious, and Jess felt her spirits lifting already. “That’s okay, I’ll be better off havin’ someone who knows anythin’ about the place. I like havin’ you around, too. You’re real nice, and you’re fun too.”

“Oh yes, quite wild,” he joked with a grin. Though it had been a long time since he’d been out doing that sort of thing. “Mhm, the Royal Ontario Museum. It’s quite something to behold. Worth seeing if you’re in town.” He shrugged, then glanced at her, “Please, call me George. Suppose I was going to see which way the wind would take me. However there is going to be a workshop on pocket watches that I was thinking of checking out… or perhaps I could take a stroll around the market, they usually have lots of neat things to see.”

“I think I’ll go have a look at this sight to behold.” Jess decided. She never really took the time to go sightseeing whenever she traveled for work, often too busy with paperwork and case files. But this time, she was determined, would be different. “George it is. You’re welcome to join me, if y’ want. I don’ bite, and I could use a tour guide.” She smiled at him, friendly and open. “Company’s nice too.”

“It’s not like the Detective to turn down a case, especially not when it involves one of our own. If you want, I could talk to him right away. That way it saves you the trouble.” He knew Murdoch’s workload was rather light, so he was sure the Detective would take the case when he could spare a few minutes here and there. He chuckled softly, shaking his head and joking, “I could spare a few if you’d like one… But yes, indeed, I have many Aunt’s, all of which are named after something floral. You would think by now we’ve run out of names.”

“That’s real nice to hear.” Jess nodded. “I’d appreciate that, Constable, thank you so much.” She smiled a genuine smile and shoved her hands in her pockets. She didn’t want to get her hopes up, but it was exciting to think that maybe he could find her family. “Wouldn’t mind borrowin’ one of ‘em.” Jess laughed and shook her head. “Newfoundland sounds like a real interestin’ place.”
