How I wash my (synthetic) wigs
First of all, I’d like to mention that I am by no means an expert. I have acquired all this knowledge simply by searching the internet, and I know that some people might have other methods for washing wigs than me, but this is what I do and what I have found works for me :)
Also, this is for curly synthetic wigs, but the process is pretty much the same for straight wigs, except for one important thing, which I’ll go through in the end.
Step 1: Get a bucket
Fill up the bucket with water of the temperature for your desired outcome (cold water = tighten/keep the style, warm water = soften/loosen the style). I use cold or luke warm water most of the time.
Add one portion of shampoo to the water and mix it in. I use a regular shampoo for colored hair, but I recommend using a shampoo specifically made for synthetic hair if you can find one.
Now just dunk the wig in there, making sure that she is fully submerged.
Let her sit in there and relax for 5 ish minutes, then take her out and give her a good rinse.
Fill up the bucket again, but this time mix in one portion of conditioner instead of shampoo.
Dunk her in there once more, and wait another couple of minutes.
Detangling time! Without rinsing out the conditioner, start gently detangling your wig, starting from the bottom and working your way up. I recommend dunking her back in the conditioner-water every once in a while, that makes detangling much easier :)
Being GENTLE is very important when doing this, as the synthetic fibers are very easily damaged. Make sure not to tug or pull at the hairs too much, if you feel like your comb or brush is getting stuck, just move it down a few inches, and slowly work out the knots.
I recommend using a comb or brush specifically made for synthetic hair, but if you can’t find that, I think that a regular wide toothed comb works just fine too.
Once you’ve successfully detangled your wig, rinse her out once more.
When drying the wig, make sure to - again - do so very gently. Never stretch or pull at the hairs, just squeeze the water out as gently as you possibly can, and press or scrunch her softly with a towel.
DO NOT BLOW DRY YOUR WIGS.
Pls. Don’t do it. Just let her air dry, preferably on a wig stand, but since I don’t have one, I just hang them on my tripod. Get creative ;)
You can also just lay them down on a towel to dry, I do that a lot too, since I usually wash multiple wigs at the same time
Before she’s fully dry, I spray her with a mixture of equal parts water and fabric softener. This is to help keep her frizz under control, and in general just keep the fibers soft, which keeps the wig from getting too tangled.
The only difference with straight wigs, is that you want to make sure that they are detangled before you start the washing process. Straight wigs should only be brushed when dry, and curly ones should only be brushed when wet.
Other than that, the main thing to think about is to BE GENTLE. I cannot stress this enough. The synthetic fibers are super easily damaged, and I speak from experience when I say that not being gentle with your wigs will make their life much shorter and less enjoyable.
Alright, that’s it! I really hope this was helpful, and if you have any questions that was not answered here, please let me know, and I’ll do what I can to help :D

Me, eating Apple slices with my rats in the dark: were a lot alike you and i. We eat we sleep we live trapped in our comfort zones never doing anything more than the usual. Your cage is physical you have an excuse but me? What stops me from getting up and leaving all that I know? Nothing but social obligation. But you seem satisfied in your space, to climb your walls and rest and shit and eat. Perhaps there is wisdom in that.

U kno what???? Honestly?? All jokes side about the Duolingo owl, Duolingo is one of the only language education services I know of that doesn’t charge for the full course and I really think we don’t appreciate that enough in a world where knowledge is severely (and increasing) restricted based on income. I just went through the app store and downloaded every language app I can find, and the only two that didn’t charge hefty subscription fees to access all the lessons were duolingo and memrise. Support free education.
