Incurably curious. When I get curious, I create infographics. Currently curious about Sherlock. All images in my own posts are my own, unless explicitly stated otherwise, and most of them are made in Adobe InDesign.

If you want to see the whole flowchart in one image, download it here.
Creating this flowchart has required me choose what to include and what to leave out. If you think that I have missed something, I’d be happy to hear from you, but please read the comments first, in case I had excluded that information for a reason.
This project has been made so much easier thanks to the Sherlock timeline at bakerstreet.wikia.com and the wonderful transcripts by @callie-ariane. Go look them up at arianedevere.livejournal.com!
Thank you to my wonderful proof reader @wetislandinthenorthatlantic!
I have completely lost track of who is discussing what in the aftermath of s4, but I’ll tag a few people under the cut anyway, hoping that you are interested. Let me know if you don’t want to be tagged in the future!

Thanks for mentioning me, @inevitably-johnlocked !
According to my calculations John and Sherlock move in together in late January 2010 and The Fall occurs sometime in autumn 2011. So I would say at least 18 months.
Hi Steph! I just wanted to ask about timelines - how long was John and Sherlock actually roommates for before the Fall? And how long was it after Mary’s death did he (canonly/presumably) return to stay at 221B with Rosie? I ask this because I feel like everyone sees how intense their relationship/friendship was so am curious about how quickly they ‘fell in something’ together. Thank youu
Hey Nonny!
Ah, there's not a 100% confirmation on the length, but I believe the general consensus is about 16 months between ASIP and TRF and I don't think that there is any speculation on post-Mary time.
HOWEVER, you should TOTALLY check out this VERY INTRICATE timeline put together by @obotligtnyfiken. It is a very deeply researched and put-together speculation of timeline of canon-events from pre-ASiP to Post TFP. It's SO awesome and one of the biggest treasures of our fandom! <3

Ah, well There’s a challenge I don’t think I’m up to :-) But if it’s visualisation of speed you want, you might want to check out my visualisation of how te show jumps back and forth in time in each episode.
Also, thank you so much for the kind words!

Could it be this one? https://obotligtnyfiken.tumblr.com/post/148841222398/the-abominable-bride-is-driving-me-mad-i-keep
There are other posts too out there. Let me know if you can’t find what you are looking for, @rchjsh and I can have a look.
I’m looking for a diagram that was made after The Abominable Bride was aired that had a breakdown of everything that happened IRL and what happened in Sherlock’s head, I’ve searched EVERYWHERE does anyone know what I mean/have it PLEASE

There is some uncertainty about the wedding date, actually. I wrote some comments for the flowchart on my website which might be of interest. This is what I wrote regarding the wedding: “The wedding invitation shown in the episode says May 18 (306), but Mark Gatiss says in the DVD commentary for The Empty Hearse that Mary saying that they were planning ”a May wedding” in The Empty Hearse (296) and the date on the invitation in The Sign of Three is an inconsistency and jokes that it is the bride’s perogative to change her mind even after the invitations are printed. John’s blog says August and this makes more sense considering how far along Mary’s pregnancy is at Christmas. I have put ”summer 2014”, to be on the safe side.”
What time of the year Mary shot Sherlock, approximately? I didn't watch season 3, its too painful. The show should be Johnlock, and only Johnlock, lol.
Reply: I’m working from @obotligtnyfiken‘s awesome BBC Sherlock timeline graphic and @arianedevere’s transcript of His Last Vow, which tell us that:
1. HLV begins 1 month after the wedding.
2. The break-in to Magnussen’s office occurs on the night of the same day when John found Sherlock in the drug den. In other words, also 1 month after the wedding.
3. The wedding was on May 18th according to the on-screen shot of the invitation from The Sign of Three (source: @arianedevere’s transcript).
Conclusion: Sherlock was shot in the middle to end of June. :)

Helpful things for action writers to remember
Sticking a landing will royally fuck up your joints and possibly shatter your ankles, depending on how high you’re jumping/falling from. There’s a very good reason free-runners dive and roll.
Hand-to-hand fights usually only last a matter of seconds, sometimes a few minutes. It’s exhausting work and unless you have a lot of training and history with hand-to-hand combat, you’re going to tire out really fast.
Arrows are very effective and you can’t just yank them out without doing a lot of damage. Most of the time the head of the arrow will break off inside the body if you try pulling it out, and arrows are built to pierce deep. An arrow wound demands medical attention.
Throwing your opponent across the room is really not all that smart. You’re giving them the chance to get up and run away. Unless you’re trying to put distance between you so you can shoot them or something, don’t throw them.
Everyone has something called a “flinch response” when they fight. This is pretty much the brain’s way of telling you “get the fuck out of here or we’re gonna die.” Experienced fighters have trained to suppress this. Think about how long your character has been fighting. A character in a fist fight for the first time is going to take a few hits before their survival instinct kicks in and they start hitting back. A character in a fist fight for the eighth time that week is going to respond a little differently.
ADRENALINE WORKS AGAINST YOU WHEN YOU FIGHT. THIS IS IMPORTANT. A lot of times people think that adrenaline will kick in and give you some badass fighting skills, but it’s actually the opposite. Adrenaline is what tires you out in a battle and it also affects the fighter’s efficacy - meaning it makes them shaky and inaccurate, and overall they lose about 60% of their fighting skill because their brain is focusing on not dying. Adrenaline keeps you alive, it doesn’t give you the skill to pull off a perfect roundhouse kick to the opponent’s face.
Swords WILL bend or break if you hit something hard enough. They also dull easily and take a lot of maintenance. In reality, someone who fights with a sword would have to have to repair or replace it constantly.
Fights get messy. There’s blood and sweat everywhere, and that will make it hard to hold your weapon or get a good grip on someone.
A serious battle also smells horrible. There’s lots of sweat, but also the smell of urine and feces. After someone dies, their bowels and bladder empty. There might also be some questionable things on the ground which can be very psychologically traumatizing. Remember to think about all of the character’s senses when they’re in a fight. Everything WILL affect them in some way.
If your sword is sharpened down to a fine edge, the rest of the blade can’t go through the cut you make. You’ll just end up putting a tiny, shallow scratch in the surface of whatever you strike, and you could probably break your sword.
ARCHERS ARE STRONG TOO. Have you ever drawn a bow? It takes a lot of strength, especially when you’re shooting a bow with a higher draw weight. Draw weight basically means “the amount of force you have to use to pull this sucker back enough to fire it.” To give you an idea of how that works, here’s a helpful link to tell you about finding bow sizes and draw weights for your characters.  (CLICK ME)
If an archer has to use a bow they’re not used to, it will probably throw them off a little until they’ve done a few practice shots with it and figured out its draw weight and stability.
People bleed. If they get punched in the face, they’ll probably get a bloody nose. If they get stabbed or cut somehow, they’ll bleed accordingly. And if they’ve been fighting for a while, they’ve got a LOT of blood rushing around to provide them with oxygen. They’re going to bleed a lot.
Here’s a link to a chart to show you how much blood a person can lose without dying. (CLICK ME)
If you want a more in-depth medical chart, try this one. (CLICK ME)
Hopefully this helps someone out there. If you reblog, feel free to add more tips for writers or correct anything I’ve gotten wrong here.

Foggy
Day 9 of Inksolation 3
He was a little foggy on the details, okay, a lot foggy on the details when he opened his eyes to find John sprawled uncomfortably on the ugliest chair, if you could call it a chair, he’d ever seen in his life. “There you are. Welcome back,” John muttered, a brief smile lit up his eyes, before they went dark at him. Damn. He knew that look, and knew he should say something, then studied John’s face and thought better of it. “I should lecture you about being an idiot, but I’m not going to do that.”
“No?”
“Nope. I am going to ask you just for one thing, yeah?”
Sherlock nodded. “Just don’t, do not - on second thought - never mind.”
“John?”
“Just don’t leave me again, yeah?”
“I will do my utmost.”
John snorted and ran his fingers through his hair, then shrugged. “It’ll do,” he whispered, then slipped out of shoes, walked around the bed and gingerly climbed into it, carefully draping his arm over Sherlock’s hip and soon was snoring against his shoulder.
