I actually do think it's very sad and kind of troubling that the same mind that produces 'femicide is such a present danger that taylor swift, probably the most famous white woman in the world, would be murdered if she came out as a lesbian' naturally immediately connects the desire to racially profile your ubereats driver to the thought 'clearly the person ordering has to fear far right pogroms and this is a necessary defensive tactic'.
it makes me think of the time I posted about the concept of mixed use space in urban planning and almost instantly got someone asserting that it would be impossible to share facilities because one in ten people through the door would be destructive sociopaths who break and steal things for no reason. there is this increasingly normalised abject fear of others that is inherently right wing no matter how you try to dress it in identity politics. gotta get some of you guys out of the house unfortunately.

We gotta start telling people “you don’t actually like TTRPGs you just like critical role” more. Like if somebody joined a martial arts class and kept talking about signature moves and catchphrases and power slams and rivals like its pro wrestling that would be pretty fucking annoying to people who like to practice martial arts right

Prosecutors argued that Mangione was carrying about $10,000 in cash and that his bag was a Faraday bag that blocks cellphone signals—all proof that he was a sophisticated criminal who should be held without bail. “‘I’d like to correct two things,’” Mangione said after the prosecutor finished speaking, according to CNN’s Danny Freeman, “‘I don’t know where any of that money came from—I’m not sure if it was planted. And also, that bag was waterproof, so I don’t know about criminal sophistication.’”

Also, I am just going to say it:
If your CEO is so inconsequential to the success of your company that he can be gunned down in the street like a dog and it has absolutely no impact on your company whatsoever, maybe he doesn't actually need to be paid several hundred times as much as your median employee.
Maybe you could get away with, like, ten to fifteen times and spend the extra tens of millions of dollars you save on something else.
Just thinking out loud.

The Far Roofs is Out
The Limited Edition is going to print in a week or so; once it's printed, and at my distributor, and sent out to backers, a couple hundred extra copies should be available via https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/

Reading the notes and reblogs, I now realize I how lucky I am that my occasional anxiety problems manifest as "I am freaking out about NOTHING and it's stupid and I know it but I can't stop freaking out".
Americans really really need to be less paranoid and more capable of tolerating minor discomfort in public. Not everyone is a pervert/rapist/strangler/fiend. In fact, very few people are. Treating every violation of normal order as though it is a threat is why people are getting shot for turning around in a stranger's driveway. This happens within the frameworks of basically every ideology present in American culture. It is an American illness. If your vision of the world doesn't have room for saying "I'm sure it's nothing" then you really gotta work some shit out.

Yeah, everyone knows Tolkien was a freak because he did conlangs.
I think a lot of people are getting the wrong idea when they call Tolkien a freak because he invented this elaborate framing device whereby the Red Book of Westmarch was actually written by Bilbo and Frodo (with some addenda by Sam) and he, Tolkien, was merely an editor and translator. Throughout history it's actually been a very common literary device for an author to represent their work as having been written by a character who appears in the story, with the author themselves variously positioned as a translator, editor, and/or literary executor. At the time that Tolkien was writing, such a device would have been seen as somewhat old-fashioned, but certainly not eccentric. Like, Tolkien was definitely a freak, but not for that reason.

It really shows what an echo chamber wealthy predators have been in that they're suddenly so shocked and scared. They truly did not think the death of a financial mass murderer would be celebrated and laughed at. They didnt think it was average normal consensus that they're scum sucking evil dirtbags. This is even the first thing in years I have actually seen being basically bipartisan, too? Even when I check on Twitter there's right wingers finally showing a little sense and dancing on that guy's grave with everybody else. What a beautiful holiday gift.

Imagine getting shot to death in the street and the whole world is talking about it only because the most common response is "this rotten asshole's company did WHAT??" followed by "can more of them get shot?" Imagine your own murder makes you famous as a scumbag who deserved it. It's just a shame he can't hear any of it over the sound of his flesh burning forever 😢

I think you may be underestimating (or at least understating) the degree to which D&D's influence resulted in a codification/rationalization of fantasy/mythology Things.
Like, OD&D felt it necessary to specify that vampires are not a kind of lycanthrope--an idea that is totally ludicrous to most Fantasy Fans today.
People that are trying to apply D&D's caster class divisions to other works are kind of just extending that preexisting dynamic further. That's not a *good* thing, but it does mean that the fault for said Not Good Thing lies heavily with D&D (and the constant addition of new classes) itself.
People who treat D&D's classes as like being in any way representative of fiction outside of D&D are my nemesis, I just saw a post that was like "remember the difference between a Sorcerer a Warlock and a Wizard is this" and treating like those words as if their very D&D specific meanings were like universally accepted I'm going to start taking hostages

DKC 1: there's no collectibles, just bonus areas with lives.
Literally Every Other DKC Game: You get some cool bonus levels for getting the collectables
Yoshi's Island: You get bonus levels for 100%ing worlds.
Wait did you actually get some reward for actually collecting all that shit in Donkey Kong Country or did I just waste all those hours of my youth for nothing? I genuinely can't remember
