Aileen Wuornos (1956-2002) PART TWO
Tumblr media
Aileen Wuornos murdered 7 men in a 12 month period. The first was Richard Mallory, 51, on November 30, 1989. He was a convicted rapist, whom Wuornos claims to have killed in self-defence after being sodomised and brutally beaten. Mallory had been shot several times. Victim number 2 was David Spears, 47. Spears was reported missing on May 19, 1990 and his body was found on June 1. He had been shot 6 times. On June 6, 1990, Charles Carskaddon's bullet-riddled body was found wrapped in an electric blanket in Pasco County. Witnesses saw Wuornos in possession of Carskaddon's car and she had pawned a gun belonging to him. Victim 4 was Peter Siems, 65. He was on his way from Florida to Arkansas when Wuornos killed him and stole his cae, which was later found in Orange Springs. Siems' body was never found. Exactly a month later, the body of Troy Burress, 50, was found in a wooded area along State Road 19. Victim number 6 was Charles Humphreys, a 56-year-old retired U.S. Air Force Major, State Child Abuse Investigator and former Chief of Police. He was fully clothed and had been shot 6 times. Aileen Wuornos' final victim was Walter Antonio, a 62-year-old security guard and police reservist. His naked body was found near a logging road with 4 gunshots.
On July 4, 1990, Wuornos and Moore abandoned Siems' car following an accident. Witnesses who saw the accident gave police Aileen and Tyria's names. Police found some of the victims' belongings in pawn shops and matched fingerprints to the victims' cars. Due to Wuornos' prior crimes in Florida, her prints were on file. On January 9, 1991, Wuornos was arrested at The Last Resort biker bar. Police persuaded Tyria Moore to elicit a confession from Wuornos in return for immunity from prosecution, using recorded phone calls. The plan worked, and Wuornos confessed to the murders, claiming self-defence. A year later Wuornos went on trial for the murder of Mallory (who did indeed have a history of rape and sexual violence) and she was sentenced to death. 2 months later, she pleaded no contest to the other 6 murders, saying: "I wanted to confess to you that Richard Mallory did violently rape me as I've told you; but these others did not. [They] only began to start to." She received 3 more death sentences. The execution of Aileen Wuornos was carried out on October 9, 2002; she died at 9:47am. Her last words were: "Yes, I would just like to say I'm sailing with the rock, and I'll be back, like Independence Day, with Jesus. June 6, like the movie. Big mother ship and all, I'll be back, I'll be back."

It will only be a haze, till it's far.
Never doubt how strong you are,
The unforseen turns will leave you in a daze,
When dark, turn in to your light within.
Remember Darling, you are a star...

Aileen Wuornos (1956-2002) PART ONE
Tumblr media
Aileen Carol Wuornos, also known as Lee, was an American serial killer who murdered 7 men in Florida in 1989-90 by shooting them. She claimed that her victims had attempted to rape her while soliciting sex from her, thus claimed a motive of self-defence. Wuornos was sentenced to death for 6 of the murders and was executed by lethal injection on October 9, 2002.
Wuornos was born in Rochester, Michigan on February 26, 1956 to a 14-year-old mother and a 16-year-old father. She had an older brother, Keith. Wuornos never actually met her father, as he was in prison at the time of her birth. He was later diagnosed as schizophrenic and was convicted of sex crimes against children; he hanged himself in prison on January 30, 1969. When Aileen was only 4 years old, her mother Diane abandoned her and Keith to their maternal grandparents Lauri and Britta Wuornos, who legally adopted them. By age 11, Wuornos was swapping sexual activities for cigarettes and drugs at school, as well as having sex with her own brother. She later claimed that her grandfather, an alcoholic, had sexually assaulted and beaten her as a child, having forced her to strip. At the age of 14, Wuornos became pregnant, the result of a rape by a friend of her grandfather's. On March 23, 1971, she gave birth to a baby boy at a home for unwed mothers and the child was put up for adoption. She soon dropped out of school at around the time her grandmother died of liver failure. Not long after, her grandfather threw her out and she lived in the woods, supporting herself with prostitution.
In 1976, Wuornos had hitchhiked to Florida and married 69-year-old Lewis Gratz Fell. However, Wuornos was constantly getting into bar fights and was briefly jailed for assault. She once hit her husband with his cane, leading to him getting a restraining order against her. Wuornos returned to Michigan, where she was arrested after throwing a cue ball at a bartender's head. On July 17, 1976, Keith Wuornos died of oesophageal cancer and Aileen received $10,000 in life insurance. She annulled her marriage after just 9 weeks. She was wreckless with her money, buying a new car and wrecking it shortly afterwards. On May 20, 1981, Wuornos was arrested in Edgewater, Florida, for the armed robbery of a convenience store - she stole 2 packs of cigarettes and $35. She was in prison for 2 years. On May 1, 1984, she was arrested for trying to forge checks in Key West. On November 30, 1985, she was named as a suspect in the theft of a gun and ammo in Pasco County. On January 4, 1986, Wuornos was arrested in Miami and charged with car theft, resisting arrest and obstruction for using her aunt's ID. Officers found a .38-calibre revolver and a box of ammo in the stolen car. On June 2, 1986, Wuornos was questioned after a male companion accused her of pulling a gun on him and demanding $200. She was found to be carrying spare bullets and police found a .22 pistol under the passenger seat. Around the same time, Aileen met Tyria Moore at a Daytona Beach lesbian bar. The couple moved in together and Wuornos supported them with her prostitution earnings. On July 4, 1987, Daytona Beach police arrested the pair at a bar over an incident of assault and battery with a beer bottle. Worse was to come soon after.
