I honestly feel like Yomo is going to join Kaneki’s and Touka’s fight. He’ll attempt to take on or distract Shinsanpei and Mutsuki and tell Kaneki to “Take Touka and GO!” (or Touka take Kaneki and leave.)
We know Touka and Ayato are precious to him. He has looked over them from a distance. If he could spare their lives for his own, he would. He did this while fighting Arima. Also, with each arc comes a major death. Yomo did state in chapter 71 that “In this fading world, my only desire is to connect. For the seeds I plant to grow into flowers. And for those bloomed flowers to drop seeds. For people to say the coffee I pour for them is delicious. And through those two, my own flesh and blood, for me to once see my sister.” Kaneki saved Yomo and the Kirishima’s during this moment in the cochlea arc. Prior to this, Yomo and Kaneki have helped each other in the past. But this time around, Yomo will likely be the one helping Kaneki while also saving him and Touka. Possibly resulting in his capture or death.

Who are your favorite charas in :re currently? Or the ones you're more interested in?
Thanks for your question, I am going to answer it accoridingly.
Or the ones you’re more interested in?
I am incredibly interested in Touka, actually. Never happened to me before, but since her character arc is finally approaching, it could out turn out interesting, she could turn out interesting to me at least. Yeah, I am not really a fan of hers, at least since Re. She just started to peak my interest because there might be a possibility for her to genuinely reflect her issues (everyone has it in Tokyo Ghoul, Touka fans) for once and the potential to meet up her father again.
I think Touka, like most characters, is a lonely person through and through, even if she is surrounded by people who care for her. I am not saying she is not selfless, neither am I saying she hasn’t matured yet because that is also not true. She is actually pretty honest and offers often a direct but understanding approach when she wants to discuss an issue, instead of keeping it to herself and vent out her frustrations in violent outbursts. That alone is an incredible progess, even more incredible than what our beloved main character managed to achieve… And of course, that is only one of her achievements I am personally proud of. But I think her deep-seated lonliness causes herself a lot of grief that resulted in her feeling a great sense of powerlessness that is still prevalent in Re. And I am not saying that it’s her lack of confidence in her abilities, that’s not it, but the fact that she considers herself not to be able to prevent people from changing (often for the worse) and distancing themselves from her. Of course the fear of losing someone in the metaphorical or physical sense is abosolutely relateable. But from what I got now is that Touka yearns for stasis, for certain moments that gave her the most security and recreates said moments in order to remain that way. My main point is that Touka is still not able to move on and is gradually running away or silencing her own problems in favour of a blissful illusion.
The irony in her statement is that she thought she actually went through some self-reflection herself and therefore managing to tackle Akira’s internal conflict when in reality that is not wholely the case.
I personally consider it a good thing that Re is actually dissolving.
For Yoshimura, Re was a place where Eto could return to and confront him. This very wish, this long yearning of waitng and Anteiku being basically a sabstitutional therapy for his guilt and regret ended up in him being comatose and what I assume now, dead. Yoshimura probably knew that his wish was unrealistic because so many factors have changed, she has changed and he, too. He couldn’t push that replay button because people and time simply don’t work that way but oh well, he really tried. It was a wish he clang to to his very last moments, not able to admit the circumstances both have experienced and were in now, not realising that It’s this passiveness but also denial that drove Yoshimura to where he is now. The reason why I mentioned Yoshimura here so often is because I wholeheartedly believe that there are incredible parallels with her and him.
And Touka is regressing and in my opinion showing similar patterns, and her hair-cut is actually a hint for that, if not for the cup here.
I don’t want Touka to end up like Yoshimura. I don’t want her to cling to a neverending dream instead of moving foward. What I do want is her confronting her past and herself in an honest fashion, which will take its toll and time. And I want her reflect her choices and thoughts so far and evaluate them. And her relationships with her closest people, and yes, that includes her romantic feelings for Kaneki, but her friendship for Yoriko serves great importance as well.
I think even Touka is not able to see how much she is trying to recreate that past she had with Kaneki and the home she temporarily had. Her connection with Kaneki is not unhealthy per se, neither is her desire to have a home, a family. But Touka subconscioussly picks up every bit, builds herself a transparent wall around herself and denies herself the chance to learn how to deal with suffering, fear of abandoment and sorrow properly. Because she is going to expereince that. Everyone will. And yes, I do know that no one can learn a magical solution to overcome these things everytime they happen to a person. But it’s a learning process. And to deny yourself from trying to deal with it, that is something that will cause her a psychological train, already has in my opinion.
And what I personally got from Re, well one of the things of this manga, is that clinging to one’s past causes a chain of bad decisions, both for them and others. Furuta and his obsession with Rize (extreme example, but it holds), Mutsuki’s obsession with Kaneki Eto’s issues with her father, these are all relationships that had some common ground and something that gave them the temporary illusion of security, but look how it turned out, now where this only source has been taken away from there. And that’s not me saying that Touka will end up as a psychotic yandere shoujo who murders her way through Kaneki’s heart. Or stomach. Unhealthy behaviour and atittudes don’t need to result in such an murderous fashion. And Touka managed to deal quite a lot with her issues already. But it’s destructive, if not for others, then for oneself.
Edit: I am also not saying that her feelings for Kaneki are wrong or that her relationship with his is wrong and it needs to be severed, for all you Touken shippers here.
Thanks for the question, anon! I am not done to be honest, but I will make several parts I think.
