Part Time Londoner

So for the past three months I’v been living a dream. For three months I was able to live in London. I spent a semester abroad, studying at Queen Mary University of London, and it was everything I asked for. I was able to experience campus life and living on my own for the first time. I was able to travel to so many countries in Europe; Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Wales, Scotland, and they were all so beautiful. I was able to attend so many plays and really feel like I have an understanding of how the theatre world works in London.  I saw Benedict Cumberbatch play Hamlet twice, and was able to tell him I thought the show was great, and he actually directly responded to me, even signed my program.  I was able to see the majority of the Sherlock cast, either in a show on the West End, or and London Comic Con. Yea, I attended London Comic Con, it was awesome. I did something I never thought I’d do and waiting all day for a movie premiere and attended a red carpet for Ed Sheeran’s concert movie, and I met him! And then I was able to get into the actual premiere! I geeked out so much in the past three months, finding as many Sherlock filming locations I could, and going to Cardiff to see the Doctor Who Experience. Even did a set tour and was in the actually Tardis! Like it was the actual studio, I didn’t even realize that’s what I bought a ticket for. lol. I went to Warner Bros studios and went to the Making of Harry Potter, and honestly don’t think I’ve ever been so giddy! But besides being super geeky, I finally experienced a place I’ve been obsessed with and in love with for so long, London.  I was able to experience so much, and really feel part of the city, like I belonged. Being there felt so natural and by the end of the three months I felt like I was leaving my home. A tour guide told my group at the beginning of the term that at that moment we were now Londoners. And I feel like that’s true because such a huge part of me has grown and formed from this experience. I miss it terribly, and it hasn’t even been a week that I am home. I know that one day I will move there permanently, I need to go back.  New York City has been my home for 21 years, and will always be my home, but my second home is London.
