Fit and Flare

The fit and flare style is similar to the A-line style, as the cutting of these dresses are similar, although the fit and flare style is more form fitting. Under the fit and flare style, there is the Mermaid style and the Trumpet style.

Both the Mermaid and the Trumpet style are more sensual as the top of the dress hugs the body while the bottom flares out closer to the body. The difference lies in how the Mermaid style flares out at knee length while the Trumpet style flares out at mid-thigh.

The Mermaid style creates the illusion of a fuller hourglass figure, which makes it best for brides that wish to accentuate their curves. However, if you intend to move around a lot on your wedding day (to dance), this style of dress may not be the best for you, as it does not allow much movement.

The Trumpet style will be more suitable for you if you have an hourglass figure, as the top part of the dress will hug your waist closely. As early as the 1930’s, brides would change at the close of their reception into a “Going Away Dress” for their grand exit, where guests would wish them well as they headed off to their honeymoon. As its name implies, the A-line cut is narrow at the top, close to the rib cage, and extends out along the body in the shape of an A in a smooth, elongated line. This style is the most universally flattering, so it’s no wonder it’s one of the most popular choices. There’s also a modified A-line, which is a mix between a mermaid silhouette and a traditional A-line. This shape is roomier in the hips than a classic mermaid, but still flared at the bottom, which gives the gown movement as you walk. A site with a fee that includes necessities such as linens and furniture may at first appear more expensive than an a la carte venue, but once you factor in rental fees, you may ultimately keep costs down.

Have your wedding and reception in the same location. You’ll spend less on decor as well as on transportation costs for you and your wedding attendants.

26. Rethink Humble Decorations
