Onyanko Club was the biggest female idol group of the 1980s.(OnyankoC P18)(Prime) They made their debut in the entertainment industry as an idol group exclusively for a variety show called "Yūyake Nyan Nyan", which started on April 1, 1985 on Fuji Television Network.(OnyankoC P22)(Prime) Each of the girls was given a membership number.(Geinōkai P84) There's absolutely no way to avoid these girls when looking back at idol history.(OnyankoC P18)(Prime) Onyanko Club is the progenitor of popular idol groups such as AKB48 and the Sakamichi series, and has had a certain influence on many other idols.(OnyankoC P18)(Prime) AKB48 and the Sakamichi series are known for being produced by Akimoto Yasushi, who was also involved in Onyanko Club.(Kotaku) However, he was only involved in Onyanko Club as a scriptwriter and lyricist, not as a producer.(OnyankoB P82)(Kotaku) The person who effectively supervised Onyanko Club was Kasai Kazuji, the chief director of Yūyake Nyan Nyan, and Akimoto wrote many lyrics for Onyanko Club in accordance with Kasai's intentions.(OnyankoB P82)
Please see the following Wiki for more information.
Onyanko Club was deeply inspired by "All Nighters", a female college student idol group that was an exclusive part of Fuji TV's midnight program "All Night Fuji".(OnyankoC P94-95) The real origin of the idol groups that were formed by several dozen girls wasn't Onyanko Club, but All Nighters.(OnyankoC P94-95) Since Kasai was also one of the producers of All Nighters, the group's methodology was brought to Onyanko Club.(OnyankoA P146)(OnyankoC P8) The eleven original members of Onyanko Club were selected from a large number of high school girls who appeared on a special program called All Night Fuji High School Girl Special~We, too, ain't idiots~, which aired twice on February 23 and March 16, 1985.(OnyankoB P36) However, the idol magazine DUNK claimed that they had already been selected at the previous year's audition.(DUNK85 P83) Idol Aihara Yū claims that she was actually accepted for the audition.(Ippo) However, she turned it down due to the decision of her agency's president, who was concerned about her joining an idol group whose future prospects were uncertain at the time.(Ippo) In addition, some say that singer Watanabe Misato was also slated to be one of the original members of Onyanko Club.(2ch2 98)
April 12 or 15, 1985, 9:10 p.m. Coffee shop in Shinjuku, Tokyo. 6 members were there.
6 Smoking Group Members, including Kihara Aki.
Profiles of the members of the Smoking Group From the July 1985 issue of the idol magazine DUNK
Please see the following Wiki for more information.
Trivial but detailed observations regarding the Smoking Group(in Japanese).
By the way, only two weeks after the start of the program (the media didn't mention the exact date, but it was probably either April 12 or 15), the six members were photographed smoking in a coffee shop by the fucking paparazzi from the weekly magazine Shūkan Bunshun.(OnyankoB P36)(OnyankoC P22) These girls became known as the Smoking Group.(TreasureB P61) Okuda Mika, membership number 1, was the only one who was photographed at the decisive moment when she was actually smoking a cigarette.(Geinōkai P85) Five of the six members were fired, except for Kihara Aki, who stubbornly denied her smoking habit.(TreasureB P60) Some say that Kihara had connections to the upper echelons of the TV station.(2ch1 873)(2ch1 886) Since they were considered core members of Onyanko Club, the scandal changed the form and fate of the group.(Sponichi)(TreasureA P63) At this point, Onyanko Club was still a nobody, but they subsequently gained such overwhelming popularity that the girls became a social phenomenon.(OnyankoC P18)(Geinōkai P84) Yūyake Nyan Nyan was broadcast for one hour from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays.(Geinōkai P82) During the time, many students were involved in club activities, attending tutoring schools, or hanging out in amusement arcades, so the program didn't get many viewers in its early days.(Myōjō P152)(Geinōkai P84) However, as Onyanko Club's popularity grew, they threw up their respective activities and became obsessed with the program.(Myōjō P152) The ratings, which were initially around 3 percent, rose to 18 percent, an astounding figure for this time slot.(Geinōkai P82) In 1986, songs related to Onyanko Club spent 36 of the 52 weeks at number one on the Oricon charts.(OnyankoC P19)(Prime) Onyanko Club achieved explosive popularity supported by the power of energetic teenage fans.(Geinōkai P82)(Style) In contrast, AKB48 may have been supported more by middle-aged guys who used to be fans of Onyanko Club than by younger ones.(Style) The infamous AKB48 business method of requiring fans who want handshake tickets to buy tons of CDs, has successfully made these middle-aged guys easy targets.(Style) Note that although there are a lot of middle-aged idol fans today, in the 1980s, idol fans were basically young people in their teens or early twenties at most, and there were very few older fans.(Geinōkai P82)(Style) It was exclusively the privilege of the young to be infatuated with idols.(Geinōkai P82)(Style) Since Onyanko Club became the most popular female idol group of the 1980s, this scandal is considered a highly noteworthy one in the history of idols.(TreasureA P63)(TreasurB P60) Note that the name of the program, Yūyake Nyan Nyan, is translated into English as Sunset Meow Meow, but its real meaning is Sunset Sex.(Songs P198) The term "Onyanko" in Onyanko Club can also be interpreted as a girl who fucks.(Songs P198) In this sense, the group and the program had extremely obscene and lewd intentions.(OnyankoA P146)

April 12, 1985
April 15, 1985 Yoshino Kayoko, Nagoya Mika
Yoshino mustn't have imagined that a few hours after the program, they'd be photographed smoking. (It's possible, though, that the smoking photo was taken on April 12 rather than on this date.)
By the way, according to Enokida Michiko, who was the leader of the smoking group, and Okuda Mika, who was close with her, it was Nagoya Mika who first started smoking at their regular coffee shop. However, Nagoya wasn't there only on the day when the smoking photo was taken. This means that it's possible that Nagoya tipped off Shūkan Bunshun, and in fact, Okuda and Enokida seem to think so. If that were the case, why she did that, we don't know what her motives were, though. It is said that Nagoya had a very bad personality and that her bullying caused several members from membership number 20 onward to quit. Some say it was Fukunaga Satomi, membership number 11, who brought the story to light. However, we don't know if these things are true, cuz we have no solid evidence to back them up.
April 16, 1985
April 17, 1985 Last program appearance by members of the Smoking Group
Of the five, only Satō Mayumi seems to have made her last appearance not on this day, but on april 12.
April 25, 1985 Five members were officially dismissed from Onyanko Club, one week after April 18, 1985, when the smoking photo was made public.

She repeated her junior year at Tokyo Metropolitan Kurume High School.(TreasureA P63) The fact that she got retained at such a bottom-of-the-barrel high school means that she was either extremely stupid or didn't go to school very often.(TreasureA P63) In fact, she admitted that there was a time when she was a yankee(slang for delinquent girl) before she joined Onyanko Club.(Gorō86 P22-23) She had a very short temper and often got into trouble with her classmates.(Gorō86 P22-23) When she argued with a classmate during PE, she chased after the female student and beat her so badly.(Gorō86 P22-23) She had a part-time job at Toshimaen, an amusement park, during the summer vacation of the year she was fired, and after the beginning of the second trimester, she continued to work at some sort of part-time job after school.(Seishun86 P76) She claimed in a weekly magazine that there was another member who smoked cigarettes besides the girls of the smoking group, and that almost all of the early members of Onyanko Club had sexual experience (Since Okuda only said so, it's not certain that it's true).(Geinōkai P84) She wasn't discouraged by her dismissal and was the only member of the smoking group to resume her entertainment activities, but wasn't selected in the final round of auditions for the idol group A-cha.(Rumors P72)(2ch1 363) She even appeared in the photo magazine Emma, which was published by Bungeishunjū, the same company that publishes Shūkan Bunshun, the magazine that forced her to be fired.(Emma86 P94-P95) She then recruited a boyfriend for a magazine project.(Rumors P84) She worked at an aerobics studio, but after she quit, she enrolled in an instructor training school.(Rumors P90) She was supposed to be a promotional model for a music-related company.(Rumors P90) There was also talk of a solo debut on Polydor Records, which never materialized.(Rumors P100) She was a Playmate Japan 88 runner-up and became the first Onyanko Club member to appear nude in the October 1988 issue of the monthly Playboy magazine.(TreasureA P63)(Rumors P148) Moreover, some say that she started a company related to Dial Q2 with the money she earned from being a dominatrix at a BDSM club.(Note that Dial Q2 was a very well-known paid service that allowed users to access a variety of information over the phone, and most of the information was related to the sex industry.)(2ch1 363)(2ch1 770) There are also rumors that she worked for Shimamura, a home improvement store, and became the president of Yunnu Project, an entertainment agency, but it's not certain that these are true.(TreasureA P63)(2ch1 363) Some say she's married with about 5 children, but again it's not certain if this is true.(2ch1 363)

Enokida Michiko Membership Number 2
Date of birth: May 4 1967 Birthplace: Tokyo Height: 160cm Blood Type: AB+ High School: Saitama Prefectural Shiki High School Favorite subject: None Least favorite subject: None Club: Volleyball Favorite type of boy: cool, kind and not too square Least favorite type of boy: gloomy and stingy Hobby: studying, huh? No way! Favorite food: Snacks favorite color: Pink Favorite celebrity: Matsumoto Koyuki About myself: I can usually speak well, but on the show, I always irritate everyone with my pathetic speaking style. I'm sorry. (DUNK85 P82)
Enokida Michiko and her friend MECKEY at Saitama Prefectural Shiki High School's sports day, circa October 1985.
Mesaki Hirokazu, aka MECKEY, became friends with Enokida Michiko more than a month after she was fired from Onyanko Club for smoking. He explained that it was only because she returned from being an idol to being a normal girl that they could become friends. His nickname, MECKEY, was given by Enokida, and he likes it a lot and has used it for a long time afterwards. When he talked with her, he avoided the topic of Onyanko Club as far as possible out of concern for her. He was from the same city as Nitta Eri. When he was a junior high school senior, his homeroom teacher advised him to go to the local Saitama Prefectural Fukuoka High School, but he refused. Apparently he had been bullied and wanted to go to Saitama Prefectural Shiki High School where none of the boys from the same junior high school were there. He subsequently regretted a little that he didn't go to the same high school as Nitta, who went on to become a top idol, but he stated that it was even better that he and Enokida became friends. Mainly in the early to mid-2000s, he actively publicized both Enokida and his own friendship with her on his blog, on his message boards, and on Onyanko Club-related websites. Those who saw his activities regarded them as nothing more than brazen and idiotic self-promotion, and slammed him from time to time. His activities could certainly be described as a narcissistic promotion. However, he did so after disclosing a lot of his personal information, including his real name, place of residence, and place of employment. He must have been prepared in his own way, cuz it's an extremely rare case for someone to disclose such information on the Internet.
His personal blog. Summer Tree Road~In a small corner of Kamifukuoka http://blog.livedoor.jp/meckey_no2/archives/cat_354835.html
The following is a thread created for the purpose of slamming him. A number of people find MECKEY annoying http://www.nyahoo-jp.com/bbs/dobbsr.cgi?a=view&topic_id=1090389766
She was the leader of the smoking group and seems to have been in charge of the smoking group together with Okuda, with whom she was good friends.(TV Enokida) The members of Onyanko Club were forbidden to go to discos, but she frequently went there after the program.(TV Enokida) The program staff warned her repeatedly, but she never changed her attitude.(TV Enokida) She was fired from the group but was only suspended from high school for three days.(OnyankoA P98)(Kamifukuoka 154619) At the age of 30, she auditioned for the role of the Mitsui Re-House Lady on the TV variety show Asayan, but wasn't selected.(TreasureB P61) Since her surname was different, she seems to have been married at the time.(2ch1 135) Apparently she had a daughter and wanted her to be a part of the Hello Project.(This project means a group of female idols, including Morning Musume and others, produced by the Up-Front Group.)(Kamifukuoka 9356142) Then she became a department manager in a company called Paletone, which sells corrective underwear and cosmetics.(TV Enokida) Since she left there, she's been working as a single woman in a beauty salon during the day and in a hostess bar at night.(TV Enokida) So, even if she was married at the time she auditioned for Asayan, she must have been divorced afterwards.(Kamifukuoka 9356142) In December 2017, She appeared on the TV show "Bakuhō! The Friday" to talk about the scandal.(TV Enokida) In April 2023, she ran for city councilor of Wakō, the location of her beauty salon.(Election) However, she placed second from the bottom and was therefore not elected.(Election) She subsequently became involved with the anti-smoking movement, reflecting on her own underage smoking.(Enokida) Her attitude is in stark contrast to that of Tomoda Mamiko, who still smokes cigarettes without ever repenting.(Flash) These two seem to have been interacting with each other since they met again after 32 years on the TV show in 2017, though.(TV Enokida)

Yoshino Kayoko Membership Number 3
Date of birth: April 3 1967 Birthplace: Saitama Height: 158cm Weight: 45kg Bust: 83cm Waist: 58cm Hip: 87cm Blood Type: O+ High School: Saitama Prefectural Niiza kita High School Favorite subject: Mathematics Least favorite subject: World History Club: Basketball Favorite type of boy: Someone who is kind and strong in a fight. Least favorite type of boy: Someone who is pompous in spite of being weak and someone who puts on airs while glancing at me. Hobby:Listening to music Favorite food: Canned corn favorite color: Pink Favorite celebrity: Matsuzaka Keiko About myself: I'm a girl who dares to laugh foolishly in front of people even when I've problems. I really love to talk about obscene things with my friends. I'm so sentimental when I'm alone. (DUNK85 P82)
She was the most cheerful character among the members of the smoking group, and she also exuded an extremely obscene atmosphere.(Special) She reluctantly revealed that she had a boyfriend.(Special) Not only did she call herself "Fashion Massage" (meaning massage parlor), but she also made several outrageous remarks without hesitation that were extremely unusual for an idol, saying things like, "We girls can easily get big cocks in our pussies cuz we're awesome, and that I use only sanitary pads when I've my period".(Special) She used the Tōbu Tōjō Line, as did Nitta Eri and Enokida Michiko, but it's not clear if she was on good terms with them.(Kamifukuoka 142144) She was the same age as singer Honda Minako, and was from south of Shiki City, right next to Asaka, Honda's hometown.(Odawara) Since they both played basketball when they were in junior high school, it's possible that they interacted at the time even though they were in different schools.(DUNK85 P82)(BOMB85 P28) After her dismissal, she appeared as a model in some magazine in 1986, but little is known about her activities since then.(TreasureB P61) There's information that she's devoting herself to being a homemaker in Asaka, but it's not certain that this is true.(Wiki Yoshino) DVDs featuring early footage of Yūyake Nyan Nyan were released long ago, but she was the only one of the fired members who wasn't shown in any of the conversations or close-ups.(DVD)(2ch1 382) So it's possible that she, like Nagata Ruriko, refused to give permission for the video.(Note that Nagata was eager to make her solo debut, but was rejected by chief director Kasai Kazuji. In 1988, she married an employee of a television production company. In the 21st century, she started refusing to give video permissions. As a result, whenever Onyanko Club footage is shown on TV, her face is always covered with a mosaic.)(OnyankoB P43-45)(2ch1 382)

Tomoda Mamiko Membership Number 7

Just kidding! Least favorite type of boy: Younger guys and guys with too big eyes. Hobby:Talking on the phone Favorite food: KFC favorite color: Pale Pink Favorite celebrity: Ishihara Mariko About myself: I'm a talker, so people think I'm an annoyance… (DUNK85 P82)
Tomoda Mamiko has never repented!
She's continued to smoke cigarettes since her dismissal to this day.(Flash) Her attitude is in stark contrast to that of Enokida Michiko, who subsequently became involved with the anti-smoking movement.(TV Enokida)
Tomoda is said to have been the most beautiful and fashionable girl of the original members of Onyanko Club.(2ch1 845)(2ch1 870) However, she had a very mature appearance for an idol.(2ch1 870) She herself seems to have dreamed of idols since childhood, but for some reason, she actively revealed that she had a boyfriend who was an oddball.(Special) She was the only one of the smoking group members who wasn't a high school student but an upper secondary specialized training school student (although she was labeled as a high school senior on the show).(OnyankoA P98)(DVD) After being fired, she worked as a promotional model by day and in a bar with pool tables by night instead of finding a regular job.(Sponichi) She became engaged when she was 24, but broke it off and apparently hasn't married since then.(Sponichi) When she was around 30, she started making handmade bags and became a popular designer, even having the charismatic model Kuroda Chieko as a client.(Sponichi) In June 2016, she talked about the scandal on the TV show "Bakuhō! The Friday".(Sponichi) In December 2017, she reunited with Enokida for the first time in 32 years on the same show, and the two have apparently continued to interact with each other since then.(TV Enokida)

Satō Mayumi Membership Number 10

But I'm doing my best in my own way. (DUNK85 P83)
She gave the impression of being the least idol-like and the least popular member of the smoking group.(2ch1 860)(2ch1 861) In terms of her appearance, she looked more like a yankee than an idol.(Special)(DVD) She was the only member of the smoking group to have been expelled from high school.(OnyankoA P98) Unlike the other three who were enrolled in public high schools, she was enrolled in a private high school with relatively strict school rules.(OnyankoA P98) After her dismissal, there were rumors that she was a runner-up at the Miss Ice Cream Contest, a model, or the manager of Pink House, a clothing store in Harajuku, but it's not certain that these are true.(DUNK86 P76)(2ch1 861) She then attended a junior high school reunion and said that she finally decided to quit smoking when she had a baby.(2ch1 867)

Kawai Sonoko Membership Number 12
Date of birth: June 20 1965 Birthplace: Aichi Height: 160cm Weight: 43kg Bust: 78cm Waist: 58cm Hip: 83cm Blood Type: B+ High School: Nihon Fukushi University Affiliated High School Favorite subject: Japanese and Music Least favorite subject: Mathematics and Physics Club: Athletics Favorite type of boy: A kind, taciturn guy who keeps his word. Least favorite type of boy: Someone handsome, cuz I'm so possessive and have to constantly worry about the possibility of another girl taking him away from me. Hobby:Piano and Tennis Favorite food: Rice and Fruits favorite color: White, Pink and Red Favorite celebrity:Matsuda Seiko About myself:I wanna be considered a suitable woman for my age. On the other hand, I wanna keep my heart pure indefinitely. (DUNK8510 P36)
In the summer of 1983, when she was a senior in high school, she auditioned for “Teens Pop '83” sponsored by CBS Sony.(BOMB86 p28) Her favorite and most popular idol at the time, Matsuda Seiko, was affiliated with CBS Sony, and she thought she might be able to meet Matsuda, which was the reason she applied.(BOMB86 p28) She placed second at the audition, behind Sawada Tamae, who was five years younger than her.(BOMB86 p28) This led to her becoming a member of CBS Sony.(BOMB86 p28) She was scheduled to make her record debut as a solo artist before she became a member of Onyanko Club.(OnyankoC p35) However, CBS Sony changed course and entered her in a contest called "The Scout - Search for an Idol" for its variety show "Yuyake Nyan Nyan".(BOMB86 p28) She earned above 100 points, the required passage mark, and was therefore selected as a member of Onyanko Club.(BOMB86 p28) To be clear, this contest was blatantly staged.(OnyankoC p35) On the surface, the contest was supposed to be a five-day competition among five amateur girls who would compete in a variety of judging processes, the results of which would determine the winner(s).(BOMB86 p28) In reality, however, it was a fixed game like pro wrestling in which girls who were already affiliated with a record company or entertainment agency, as she was, were selected.(Tōkō85) There were occasionally girls like Nagata Ruriko and Yamamoto Susan Kumiko who didn't fit into those hidden criteria who were accepted, but the fact remains that the contest was basically staged.(Tōkō85) Chosen under the common interest of CBS Sony and Fuji TV, it was already decided when she was accepted that she would be the very first to make her solo debut as a member of Onyanko Club.(OnyankoB p35) Most agree that she was the most beautiful among the members of Onyanko Club.(BOMB87 p131) Unlike many of the other members, she was also considered a relatively good singer.(OnyankoC P35) However, Nitta Eri, who was way too far from beautiful and had a terrible singing voice, was the most popular member, and Kawai was second to her.(OnyankoC P18) The records of Onyanko Club itself were released by Pony Canyon, an affiliate of Fujisankei Communications Group, to which Fuji TV belongs.(OnyankoB P183) Therefore, unlike Nitta, she was never the main vocalist on Onyanko Club songs.(OnyankoB P183) Some time after she graduated from Onyanko Club, she refused to appear on TV and started to lead a life as follows.(Rumors p60) "Every day I sleep until after noon and spend the rest of the day doing nothing. When I get tired of that, I go shopping. When I get tired of that, I keep looking at the ocean". She wasn't so attached to the entertainment industry and was a character known as Fushigi-chan(Note that Fushigi-chan means a woman who repeatedly says and does mysterious things based on her unique personality and sensibilities.)(OnyankoC p35) The following episodes could be considered typical of her nature.(OnyankoC p25) One time when she was a member of Onyanko Club, she went to a sushi restaurant with some people from the program. An old-fashioned sushi chef repeatedly warned her about the rudely way of ordering sea urchin, her favorite food, but she refused to change her attitude, while glaring at the chef. He was amazed by her that he asked Kasai Kazuji, the chief director of the program, who was sitting next to her, “You haven't educated this girl very well, have you?" Kasai laughingly justified her attitude by saying, “there's no problem cuz she's an ETI(Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence)". Also, at the time she was a member of Onyanko Club, her boyfriend was her agent, but she didn't hide the fact from the other members.(Geinōkai P87) She always sat on the agent's lap in front of the members, even though there were other seats available.(Geinōkai P87)

She became a member of Onyanko Club in May 1985, when she was a senior at Tsudanuma High School.(OnyankoB p43) She was good friends with Nitta Eri and Nakajima Miharu, who were in the same grade.(DUNK8512 p39) In April 1986, she enrolled at Wayō Women's Junior College near Funabashi, her hometown.(Rumors p86) In terms of looks, she was at least way better than Nitta, and yet she never became as popular as Nitta.(OnyankoC p38) Perhaps she wasn't always suited for an idol, as she wasn't so cheerful and was an extremely difficult type of girl.(DUNK8510 P42) Still, she, like Nitta, really wanted to make her solo debut.(OnyankoB p43) She appealed to various parties to let her make a solo debut.(5ch1 5) However, Kasai Kazuji, the chief director of Yūyake Nyan Nyan, cruelly rejected her request, telling her that she wasn't qualified for the job.(OnyankoB p43) She was extremely disappointed and implicitly criticized Kasai, saying, “I really hate guys who wield power, and I'm fucking pissed off with such assholes".(DUNK87 P67) Still, when Onyanko Club disbanded, she said she had no unfinished business for her and graciously retired from the entertainment industry.(OnyankoB p64) She developed a unique rounded script called Rurīru, which is still in use to this day, albeit only slightly.(OnyankoC p38) In spring 1988, she married an employee of a television production company.(Rumors p160) That was just a short time before Takai Mamiko's marriage to Akimoto Yasushi, and Nagata, not Takai, was the first Onyanko Club member to get married.(Rumors p160) Some say she married Suzuki Masato, an assistant director of Yūyake Nyan Nyan.(2ch2 710) She appears to have two children (some say three), but hasn't been seen in public at all since her marriage.(Current)(5ch1 66) She's never been in contact with any of the other members of Onyanko Club, including Nitta Eri, with whom she was good friends.(5ch1 68) There are many other members who haven't appeared in public since their marriage, but she's the only one who hasn't even been witnessed by anyone.(5ch1 100) In the 21st century, she started refusing to give video permissions.(Current) Because of this, whenever Onyanko Club footage is shown on TV, her face is always covered with a mosaic.(Current) A number of DVDs were released featuring Yūyake Nyan Nyan, concerts, and behind-the-scenes footage.(Current) All of her close-ups, conversations, singing scenes, and even her profile were removed from these DVDs.(Current) Since no public explanation has been offered as to the cause of her refusal to give permissions for the footage, a number of theories have been rumored.(net) One of them is that her husband had a dispute with Fuji TV and since then she has refused under his direction.(Ruri) This is the most widely believed theory among Onyanko Club fans.(net) However, this theory ain't worthy of credence because it originated from a post written by an unidentified guy on the Onyanko Club fan site, PANIC THE WWW, over 20 years ago.(Ruri) Given her past history, it's more natural to assume that her refusal is vengeance for not getting her solo debut. This theory, too, ain't certain, though.

She became a member of Onyanko Club in July 1985, when she was a freshman at Atsugi Kita High School.(OnyankoB p41) She was described as having a tropical face with big round eyes, and was often teased by Ishibashi Takaaki of the popular comedy duo Tunnels.(OnyankoC p38) However, she quit Onyanko Club in September 1985, two months after joining the group.(OnyankoC p38) According to Kasai Kazuji, chief director of Yūyake Nyan Nyan, it was cuz she said the following.(OnyankoB p43) "I don't enjoy the Onyanko Club activities at all. It's just sleepy for me." Did she really say such a thing at a time when Onyanko Club's popularity was just skyrocketing? To say the least, it's extremely puzzling. I think it's possible that Kasai may have made up a random reason to get her to quit for some undisclosed reason. Kasai claimed that the smoking group was fired cuz their parents and school teachers demanded not to allow them to appear on the program.(OnyankoA p98) However, Okuda Mika and Tomoda Mamiko of the smoking group say they were unilaterally fired without sufficient explanation from Kasai.(Geinōkai p84) Anyway, I don't know what the truth is, cuz she hasn't offered a public explanation for this to date. She resumed her own showbiz activities in the summer of 1987.(OnyankoB p43) She was scheduled to make her record debut on King Records in November of that year, but it never materialized.(OnyankoB p43) She was featured extensively in an idol magazine called Daikaizoku(Great Pirates) on several occasions.(OnyankoB p43) She appeared regularly on a variety show for kids called Paopao Channel, hosted by Yoshizawa Akie, a former member of Onyanko Club.(OnyankoB p43) She also had a minor supporting role in a TV drama series.(OnyankoB p43) In June 1988, she was scheduled to make her record debut on the BGM Victor label with the song “Don't Become Cheap,” but that was cancelled again.(OnyankoB p43) Shortly thereafter, she retired from the entertainment industry, but the specific reason wasn't made public.(OnyankoB p43) Some say that she married around 1990 and gave birth to a baby soon after, but it ain't clear if this is true.

It's Pretty Obvious Which Face Is More Suitable For An Idol.
I think the most incomprehensible and extraordinary thing in the history of not only Onyanko Club, but idols in general, is the fact that from the summer of 1985 to the summer of 1986, Nitta Eri became extremely popular that she overwhelmingly outshone all the other members of Onyanko Club.(OnyankoC P50-51)(Geinōkai P86) It was absolutely insane that such a lowly bitch became overwhelmingly popular nationwide.(OnyankoC P50-51)(Geinōkai P86) To me, she was a haniwa face girl who didn't have anything special about her, and I definitely don't think she was the kind of idol that deserved it.(OnyankoC P50-51) She was only a carpenter's daughter.(Geinōkai P86) It was nothing short of extremely criminal absurdity that a fucking bitch like Nitta became the most popular idol thanks to the title of Onyanko Club.(Geinōkai P82-83) The psychological state of the elementary, junior high, and high school students who fell in love with Nitta at the time is probably one of the most baffling and lunatic things in the history of idols.(OnyankoC P50-51) Even though the girls of Onyanko Club were basically fugly, there were relatively beautiful girls like Kawai Sonoko, Takai Mamiko, and Kokushō Sayuri from the very early days.(OnyankoC P22,35,52) Nevertheless, the popularity was concentrated on Nitta, whose face was way too far from beautiful.(OnyankoC P18)(Geinōkai P86) It's possible to say that it's almost impossible for human beings to fathom out this extraordinary insane phenomenon. Anyway, as they used to be enthusiastic fans of Nitta, they should be held historically accountable for making her up to a position that she didn't at all deserve, even if it was only for a brief period of time.(OnyankoC P50-51)
Among approximately 50,000 high school girls who were in their senior year of high school in Saitama Prefecture at the time, in terms of looks, Yoshino Kayoko may have had a certain chance of being in the top 20. On the other hand, no matter how favorably you look at Nitta, I'm pretty sure she wasn't even in the top 2000. It's an undeniable fact that Yoshino was far more beautiful and cute than Nitta, and it's absolutely unacceptable to deny the fact. Yoshino's cheerfulness must have come from her confidence in her own good looks. There was no doubt that Tomoda Mamiko was also beautiful among the Onyanko Club members. She didn't have the girlish cuteness such as Kawai Sonoko, though. Anyway, the Onyanko craze was an incredibly abnormal phenomenon, as evidenced by the fact that Nitta, who was essentially a third-rate bitch who didn't deserve to be discussed at all, so brazenly rose to the top.(OnyankoC P50-51)(Geinōkai P82) I feel extremely strongly that the best way for Onyanko Club, or any popular idol group in general, is to have beautiful girls like Yoshino and Tomoda as the main characters, and low quality girls like Nitta and her ilk as the supporting characters.
When the five girls of the smoking group got fired, they must never have imagined that Onyanko Club would become overwhelmingly popular.(Geinōkai P84) However, seeing Onyanko Club become overwhelmingly popular over time must have given the girls an inexpressible feeling of regret.(Gorō86 P22-23) Okuda Mika and Enokida Michiko were probably the ones who seem to have had the strongest hearts and the most guts among the smoking group members.(Gorō86 P22-23)(TV Enokida) Tomoda Mamiko and Satō Mayumi don't seem to have had such soft characters either.(Sponichi)(2ch1 859) Therefore, I think that Yoshino Kayoko was clearly the most vulnerable in this respect. Such being the case, the dismissal itself must have been quite a shock to her. What was more shocking, however, was probably the fact that a fugly girl like Nitta Eri, who could in no way be described as beautiful by any stretch of the imagination, attracted a tremendous amount of attention from the general public as the most popular Onyanko girl.(OnyankoC P18)(Geinōkai P86) Both Yoshino and Nitta were in their senior year of high school when they started out as the original members of the group, and where they lived were relatively close to each other in Dasaitama.(DUNK85 P82) From Yoshino's point of view, it must have been completely unimaginable when the program first started that Nitta, who was obviously far lower rank than her, would become overwhelmingly popular.(OnyankoC P50-51)(2ch1 859) Furthermore, she would have thought that she was far more beautiful and cute than Nitta and that she deserved to be an idol. As Yoshino's feelings could be overwhelmingly justified, her regret must have been immeasurable. There must have been more than a few students around her at her high school who felt the same way, and some of them might have even dared to tell her about it. On the surface, she would have responded to that by feigning calmness. However, she must have felt an indescribable irritation in her heart. In addition, she must have been overwhelmed with a sense of powerlessness over the fact that she became nothing more than a high school girl.
Enokida continued to watch the program after she was fired, and she liked Gomioka Tamaki, who was a member of Onyanko Club for only two months.(Kamifukuoka 142144) On the other hand, Okuda even said that she was so frustrated for a year after she was fired that she couldn't watch it.(Gorō86 P22-23) Even the brusque Okuda couldn't bear to watch the program, so Yoshino must have been even more frustrated and unable to watch it.(Gorō86 P22-23) When it comes to Gomioka, it's possible that she didn't even notice Gomioka's existence unless she was watching the program. On the other hand, whether she was watching the program or not, if she was living a normal high school life, there was no way she wouldn't have realized that Nitta became very popular.(OnyankoC P18)(Geinōkai P86) So, for Yoshino, a very depressing and disgusting situation must have continued until she graduated from high school. Of course, outwardly, she didn't show such an attitude at all, and probably behaved just as cheerfully as before. So, if it's true that she refused to give permission for the Onyanko Club DVDs, that's obviously the reason. It'd also be a clear indication that this is not a problem that time can simply solve. It's possible that Yoshino's past involvement in Onyanko Club is just a dark, stagnant, and unpleasant memory that she hesitates to even remember and would like to keep sealed away forever if she could. Like Tomoda and Enokida who appeared in the press several times, Yoshino could have expressed her true feelings if she wanted to.(Sponichi)(TV Enokida) However, the fact that she hasn't made any such move may be a sign of her strong will to stay away from anything related to Onyanko Club.
By the way, Nitta bragged in a magazine that she and other Onyanko members including her best friend, Nakajima Miharu, drank beer every night during the Onyanko Club tour.(BOMB90 P39) Furthermore, Nitta seems to have told on several TV programs that she also smoked during her Onyanko Club days, and that she even cohabited with a guy despite being a very popular idol.(Board)(One) After all, anything goes as long as the wrongdoings ain't publicly exposed. Like Kihara Aki, who was at the scene of the smoking but was acquitted because of her connections with the upper echelons of the TV station, these can only be described as a monstrous absurdity.(2ch1 873)(2ch1 886) Other idol groups might be the same, but Onyanko Club had many DQN-esque girls, especially the early members.(Note that the slang term DQN means a person who behave in an insane and thoughtless manner. He or she has no decency and class in appearance, word or deed. DQN can also be used to describe the insane and thoughtless behavior itself.) Nevertheless, they were divided into those who were punished and those who were not. History has always not treated people equally. And only those who got away with it or were to the point have been given the honor of being in the spotlight. This is probably a common phenomenon in many fields in the world.

A roundtable discussion just before high school graduation
Nitta Eri, Nakajima Miharu, Yokota Mutsumi, and Nagata Ruriko wore their respective high school uniforms. At a roundtable discussion just before high school graduation, March 1986.

In March 1986, Nagata Ruriko, her good friends Nitta Eri and Nakajima Miharu, along with Yokota Mutsumi, who joined Onyanko Club more than half a year after them, graduated from their respective high schools. Note that Nakajima alone graduated not only from high school but also from Onyanko Club. The following is their roundtable discussion just before high school graduation.(From the May 1986 issue of the idol magazine Myōjō)
Nagata Ruriko(Her nickname is Ruri or Ruriruri) Chiba Prefectural Tsudanuma High School(At the time Nagata was a student at this high school, it was a mid-level in terms of academics.) Nitta Eri Saitama Prefectural Fukuoka High School(When Nitta was a student at this high school, it was a low level in terms of academic achievement. in 2013, it merged with Ōi High School and changed its name to Fujimino High School) Nakajima Miharu(Her nickname is Nakaji) Tokyo Metropolitan Minamino High School(At the time Nakajima attended this high school, it was a pretty low level academically. in 2005, it merged with Inaki High School and changed its name to Wakaba Sōgō High School) Yokota Mutsumi Shibuya Education Academy Makuhari Junior and Senior High School(This high school is currently one of the most academically advanced high schools in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Yokota entered this high school the year it was founded. At the time, its academic level was way too far lower than it is today)
Mutsumi: Now I can finally graduate from high school and I'm so happy it brings tears to my eyes. Ruri: I, too, am happy. Cuz my high school life was fucking gloomy that I didn't have any pleasant memories of it. Nakaji: I'm really worried about leaving Onyanko Club, cuz Ruri is like this. Who's gonna take care of Ruri when I'm no longer there? Ruri: Don't worry, I'll be a cheerful girl from now on. Eri: I don't wanna graduate from high school. I wish I could continue high school for one more year. Mutsumi: Sounds like you had a very enriching high school experience, Eri. I envy you. Eri: Oh Yeah! I was blessed with friends in high school and I enjoyed every day. I was always happy when I was in school. Ruri: I can't fucking believe that such an enriching high school experience exists.
Nakaji: I'm rather happy to be graduating from high school too. Cuz my high school was way too free, which maybe explains why I was bored. Mutsumi: Nakaji's high school was too generous. My high school was fucking strict that made me cry. Eri: Please listen to my story! My high school has a fucking great school festival. When I was a junior, my class had a coffee shop and I was in charge of getting the customers to come. Nakaji: That's the right job for you, Eri. Eri: Some middle aged guy complimented me, saying, "You suit the job pretty well, but is your family in any business?" Nakaji: Eri, you've fucking enjoyed your adolescence, haven't you?
Ruri: I just figured it out! Mutsumi: Ruri, don't shout out of the blue! Ruri: I now understand why my high school life wasn't vibrant. It was cuz I didn't have anyone I fell in love with. Eri: Ruri, what the fuck are you talking about, I'm appalled at you! Ruri: If you love someone, you can work with your friends on that and get excited together, right? Nakaji: There was a boy I loved in high school. Everyone: Eek! Gee Whiz! Nakaji: But I was dumped by the boy. I was fucking dumped.
Eri: I was happy cuz there was a senior boy I loved and we both were in the same session at the school festival. Nakaji: I believe that any boy you fall in love with in high school will remain in your memories for the rest of your life. Ruri: That's not true. The love you had in junior high school is the most memorable. Nakaji: Ruri, you're a fucking idiot. People experience true love for the first time in high school. Eri: I applaud Nakaji. Ruri: Hmph, you bitches say whatever you want. Mutsumi, you didn't have a boyfriend either, did you? You're one of mine, right? Mutsumi: Yeah, it's not easy for me to fall in love with a school boy, although I can easily become a fan of male idols. Nakaji: Mutsumi, you lie! You bought some chocolates for some boy for Valentine's Day, didn't you? I'm about to graduate from high school, so I'm gonna expose whatever secrets you bitches have! Eri: Nakaji, please, don't get so excited!
Mutsumi: Well, my junior year of high school was more fun than I thought it would be. Ruri: Why was it junior year? Wasn't it your freshman year? You mean you had some good memories when you were a junior! Nakaji: Mutsumi, I'm pretty sure you had a boyfriend when you were a junior. Mutsumi: Nope. When I was a junior, I had a lot of high school activities, so I didn't have time for such things! Eri: Mutsumi is in a panic! Nakaji: Ruri, you musta had a boy you loved in high school, right? Ruri: I definitely didn't have a boy I loved! Nakaji: I think your remark is very suspicious, cuz saying "definitely" sounds very intentional. Ruri: Let's switch gears and talk about a boy that Nakaji loved! I do know a lot of details about the boy! Nakaji: Er, we'll skip the topic! Btw, one of my fondest memories of high school was skipping class and eating at a nearby family restaurant. Mutsumi: Nakaji is pretty daring.
Eri: I've had that kinda experience. My friends group is absurdly close, so when one of them was very depressed, we all skipped class to comfort the girl. Mutsumi: have you ever been comforted by your friends, too, Eri? Eri I'm almost always comforted by my friends. Ruri: Uh, yeah, when I was a junior, in biology class, we were told by our teacher to take blood from our earlobes to examine our blood type. I fucking hated such a thing, so I boycotted that by hiding under my desk for an hour straight. Eri: That's very typical of you, Ruri.
Mutsumi: I've never skipped class. Nakaji: Nope, I'm pretty sure you musta skipped class, too. Let's recall it well! Mutsumi: Come to think of it, I did have that kinda experience. I wanted to go to the bathroom during class, but I was embarrassed to say such a thing, so I said I'd go to the nurse's office instead. then I played in the bathroom for an hour until class finished. Ruri: Don't play in the bathroom for an hour! Mutsumi, you're so wacky. Eri: You mean that's shit!
Nakaji: Well, during PE class we were instructed by our teacher to run a number of laps around the perimeter of the school buildings. After running only half a lap, I went to a lounge behind one of the school buildings and rested there, eating an ice cream. Then I ran another half-lap as if nothing had happened. Ruri: That's a thing that happens, doesn't it? But it was usually boys who did that. Nakaji: Also, there was a pervert who often haunted the area around my high school. On one occasion, I spotted the pervert and out of a sense of justice, I chased after him. Eri: Ew! That's over the top, Nakaji. Nakaji: But I missed the pervert. Fucking damn!
Mutsumi: Nakaji who did such a thing is gonna be a dental technician. Patients will feel scared cuz they can't run away from her. Ruri: After graduation from high school and Onyanko Club, Nakaji is gonna go to a technical school for a year to become a dental technician, right? Nakaji: Yeah, I'm gonna study a lot instead of playing. Mutsumi: Me and Ruri will be the college girls I've always wanted to be. Ruri: But we'll both go to junior colleges for girls, so there'll be no boys there. Eri: I need to get a proper job in the entertainment industry after graduating from high school. To tell you the truth, I wish I could continue to be a high school student.
Nakaji: I'll be able to examine your teeth when I become a dental technician after a year. My first sacrifice has already been decided, though. Ruri: Oh shit, it's me again! Nakaji said a while ago that when she got her driver's license, she'd let me be the first one to get in the car. Oh no, why am I the only one that Nakaji has her eyes on? Mutsumi: It must be dangerous to let Nakaji drive. Having said that, I expect you to drive well. Eri: Good for you, Ruri. Nakaji will be getting her license in weeks, so pretty soon you'll be sitting in the passenger seat of her car. Ruri: Please don't do such a thing to me! Cuz I'm about to start my life as a college girl! Nakaji: Ruri, that's what you really think! I've definitely decided to make Ruri my first sacrifice!
Eri: Nakaji, you have cracker seaweed stuck to your teeth. Mutsumi: That's funny. Eri: Nakaji would be examine all of us after she became a proper dental technician, understood? Nakaji: Leave it to me! Ah, the tea tastes so good.

Comments regarding the Smoking Group on a board.
11 original members of Onyanko Club
Core members of Onyanko Club as of December 1985 Top: Iwai Yukiko, Takai Mamiko, Kokushō Sayuri, Yoshizawa Akie Bottom: Kawai Sonoko, Fukunaga Satomi, Nitta Eri
Core members of Onyanko Club as of January 1986 Top:Takai Mamiko, Iwai Yukiko, Kokushō Sayuri Middle: Utsumi Kazuko, Fukunaga Satomi, Nakajima Miharu Bottom:Yoshizawa Akie, Kawai Sonoko, Nitta Eri
78 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/19(Sat) 00:11:16 ID: K1fbNjmo If the smoking group had stayed, Nitta Eri, Nakajima Miharu and others would have quit early. Onyanko Club must clearly have gone in a different direction.
86 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/19(Sat) 04:38:41 ID: WnQ5ePHb
78 If so, the subsequent history of idols might have changed.
88 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/19(Sat) 15:04:50 ID: MZZT3ycd The smoking group said there was a girl who just happened not to be there, but who? Was it Nitta Eri?
91 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/19(Sat) 15:30:50 ID: XFbGluWa It mighta been Nagoya Mika. However, she and Kihara Aki were the ones who might say, "I hate cigarette smoke and smell!" They seem to have gotten along well with the smoking group, though.
92 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2005/03/19(Sat) 15:53:00 ID: Zpf6IJdZ It seems like a good fit for Tomoda Mamiko to smoke Virginia Slims or Salem Menthol, and for Enokida Michiko to smoke Cabin Mild. As far as Yoshino Kayoko is concerned, it seems like a good fit for her to smoke Mild Seven, while squatting like a yankee(slang for delinquent girl.)
102 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2005/03/20(Sun) 01:54:04 ID: 5YX4jnM9 I don't think Kawai Sonoko has changed a lot. Considering the smoking group's photos and profiles, they look like DQNs(The slang term DQN means a person who behave in an insane and thoughtless manner. He or she has no decency and class in appearance, word or deed.) But Nitta Eri also looks like a DQN. The rest of the members look rather well-bred.
104 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/20(Sun) 02:05:42 ID: 8bZ8adzm
102 I agree. From what I see in the photos, the smoking group seems to have a bad vibe. The rest of the members seem to be young ladies who grew up in normal families. In the case of Nitta Eri, she's a little something different, though. Be that as it may, I feel blatantly incongruent with the smoking group.
Tomoda Mamiko, Fukunaga Satomi, Kawai Sonoko, and Tomikawa Harumi are high on my list. Yoshino Kayoko and Kihara Aki are okay. Okuda Mika ain't so bad, but I don't like her expression in her eyes. Enokida Michiko, Nitta Eri, and Nagoya Mika look old. Utsumi Kazuko also looks old, but she has class, so she's okay. Nakajima Miharu, Kokushō Sayuri, and Satō Mayumi are country bumpkins, no matter how you look at them.
110 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/20(Sun) 18:21:39 ID: 7IN/WR33 Someone who auditioned for the role of the Mitsui Re-House Lady on the variety show Asayan. Was it Enokida Michiko, membership number 2?
112 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/20(Sun) 21:56:01 ID: 7IN/WR33 That was in 1997. The actress Ikewaki Chizuru was a Re-House Girl. At that time, they recruited an elder sister on the show as a Re-House Lady. Enokida said as one of the applicants, "About 12 years ago from now, I got fired from Onyanko Club for a smoking photo. I wanna redeem my honor".
113 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2005/03/20(Sun) 22:18:22 ID: oHmH+ACc |-`). I'm pretty sure no one thought that a single cigarette would make their lives so crazy.
114 Name: No Name Whatsoever [age] Posted Date: 2005/03/21(Mon) 00:48:05 ID: qnT/1DlX If Kihara was smoking, she shoulda been fired too.
115 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2005/03/21(Mon) 01:01:56 ID: NtoEIcWK Trade kihara for Tomoda!
124 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2005/03/21(Mon) 21:48:22 ID: mv2gwG/P I've personally ranked the girls of the smoking group.
Tomoda Mamiko >>>>>> Yoshino Kayoko > Okuda Mika > > Enokida Michiko >>>>>>>>>>>>> Satō Mayumi
127 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted date: 2005/03/22(Tue) 10:54:33 ID: AReURzpL
112 "About 12 years ago from now, I got fired from Onyanko Club for a smoking photo" "I wanna redeem my honor" she said on TV?
That's what it says on Enokida's own resume, and that resume was read by the Comedy duo 99's Okamura Takashi. Then she made a video appearance, but said very little.
129 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/03/22(Tue) 15:21:23 ID: U0Q408FM It was Enokida Michiko, membership number 2. I was able to clearly confirm that she was the one cuz I had videotaped the show. It was in December 1997 that she was introduced on the show. She made a video appearance in february of the following year.
She was asked, "What membership number did you have?" She replied with a laugh, "Number 2, number 2!" She was quite beautiful.
367 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/05/01(Sun) 11:29:31 ID: BLFFbcB4 Why wasn't Kihara Aki fired?
371 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/05/01(Sun) 14:19:17 ID: Z1DoEswE I think it's because Kihara insisted that she hadn't smoked. But I do think she was the type of girl who hated cigarette smoke.
372 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2005/05/01(Sun) 14:45:12 ID: Ut3S+k9B Whether she smoked or not, the fact that she was there is the problem.
373 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/05/01(Sun) 15:42:19 ID: Z1DoEswE It was written in the official book at the time that out of the five members of the smoking group, three were suspended from high school and one was expelled. They had it coming, but it's so harsh to be fired from Onyanko Club and expelled from school.
382 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/05/02(Mon) 03:51:56 ID: QkKlggCU Nagata Ruriko wasn't shown in the Yūyake Nyan Nyan DVDs, since she didn't give permission for the DVDs. However, the girls who left Onyanko Club halfway through including the smoking group members were shown in the DVDs. Does that mean they all gave permission? If that's the case, I'm surprised the show's staff was able to track them down. But if you look closely, among the smoking group, Yoshino Kayoko was the only one who didn't have any conversations or close-ups, so they mightn't have been able to locate her. Unexpectedly, Nagata's case might also have been that they simply couldn't find her.
462 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/06/28(Tue) 05:58:31 ID: W5xTxejt The smoking group members seem to have had bad personalities.
463 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2005/07/08(Fri) 22:05:38 ID: M7hBJ1hR I don't know what their actual personalities were. They were high school girls appearing on TV, but at the same time, they were smoking cigarettes in a public place without hesitation. It made me feel a bit that their IQ was pretty low.
671 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2006/06/06(Tue) 11:47:20 ID: hNs6ivFs How reliable are the following stories?
Okuda Mika - auditioned in 1992, now a housewife, actually a single mother Yoshino Kayoko - magazine cover Tomoda Mamiko - winner of a women's magazine knitwear award, bar proprietress for a while, now a housewife Satō Mayumi - Miss Ice Cream Teramoto Yōko - retired after marriage in 1996 Gomioka Tamaki - finished the recording. Yajima Yūko - Doctor Ōnuki Kaori - worked at a BDSM club
None of them are credible, and all of them smell fishy. I'm not sure how many of these are true.
706 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2006/07/21(Fri) 21:17:19 ID: OvC+4ymj The most DQN member was Okuda Mika?
768 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2006/11/10(Fri) 08:37:23 ID: uFVwuCFx I heard that among the smoking group, Okuda Mika and Tomoda Mamiko were working as dominatrices at BDSM clubs, is that true?
770 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2006/11/10(Fri) 10:17:21 ID: x/YsZUak
768 I don't know about Tomoda, but I've heard about Okuda. Some say that she started a Dial Q2 related company with the money she earned from being a dominatrix.
845 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/08/27(Mon) 01:17:52 ID: HlFmiDRW I think the highest quality girl among the smoking group was Tomoda Mamiko. If she'd stayed, she mighta become a core Onyanko among the early members.
858 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/05(Wed) 05:04:46 ID: SdQfNIhx It seems that the manager of Pink House in Harajuku, where my elder sister used to work part-time, was Satō Mayumi, membership number 10. She was a pretty yankee manager, and she used to yell at the clerks as loud as she could when sales were low. She made my elder sister go mad within a week.
859 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/05(Wed) 08:10:51 ID: mmzH3WhN
858 Oh! I read somewhere on the board that she had worked at a clothing store, but it was Pink House.
Satō Mayumi, Membership number 10, had the best interaction with Tsuru-chan(comedian Kataoka Tsurutarō's nickname).
Tsuru-chan asked her, "Is it true that you and Nitta don't get along?" She angrily replied, "It's not that I don't get along with Nitta, it's just that we don't fit well in terms of personality!" I thought Satō was a true yankee. At that moment, Nitta and her best friend Nakajima Miharu looked completely terrified.
860 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2007/09/05(Wed) 14:25:21 ID:QBzGsO7F Satō was badass! But I'm surprised she was involved in Pink House… I don't know if she was really a yankee or not.
861 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/07(Fri) 01:06:31 ID: 5QPwdtaD
858 I really miss Satō Mayumi. She always wore baggy, tacky clothes, didn't she? That's all I remember. 859 In an interview with Bomb!, an idol magazine, Nitta said that she didn't get along with the stylish girls of the smoking group from the very beginning. She was talking with Nakajima every day about when they should quit. I don't know if Satō's comment was the trigger or not.
862 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/07(Fri) 09:37:02 ID: suqG+TTY Satō Mayumi… her hair style was pretty shaggy, wasn't she?
Was there any truth to the rumor that she had once been a model? I heard that her participation in the Miss Ice Cream Contest was a mere gossip though.
865 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/09(Sun) 22:48:46 ID: yB/z48SY Okuda's face looks completely different between her Onyanko days and Playmate days. She was a little chubby and cute when she was a Onyanko girl. When she went nude, she was slim and beautiful. 3 years was enough to transform her so drastically.
Is she still working at Shimamura(home improvement store)?
867 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/13(Thu) 21:51:33 ID: yGm1uCyQ Not really something to brag about. But can I brag about it?
I was in the same class as Satō Mayumi in junior high school. At that time, she was more mature rather than a yankee. She had more male friends than female friends. There was a junior high school reunion the other day, but I couldn't make it cuz I had to accompany my wife on an errand. I heard that Satō attended the reunion. According to my friend who was there, Satō said self-mockingly, "I quit smoking after the birth of my child". She seems to have chatted openly with the guys around her. However, she adamantly refused to be photographed. I should also have attended there, then secretly photographed her.
Sorry for the long story.
870 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/18(Tue) 01:55:45 ID: z3CmAErI I'm pretty sure Tomoda Mamiko was the baddest girl among the smoking group! It's fucking awesome that there was such a smoking hot high school girl back then! I don't think it's appropriate to compare the two, but the country bumpkin Nitta Eri musta just smelled of piss. I guess Enokida and Yoshino's pussies stank enough.
872 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/18(Tue) 06:55:54 ID: beZ0KuzN Why did the fugly Kihara Aki stay so brazenly in Onyanko Club despite she was also in the photo?
873 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2007/09/18(Tue) 07:28:22 ID: jdSgYggv She insisted that she'd just been there. In addition, it helped that she had a relative who was an executive at the TV station, so she only had to refrain from appearing on the show for about two weeks. I'm pretty sure the smoking group was fucking pissed off. "Why were we the only ones fired?"
874 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2007/09/19(Wed) 11:48:23 ID: 703P+c0I Kihara was a fucking cunt.
875 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2007/09/19(Wed) 12:51:01 ID: 50Zdhv2S Among them was a member who was fired, even though it was only her skirt or something in the photo. And I heard that some of them were expelled from high school as well. It's so misery that they got fired from Onyanko Club and also from school.
876 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2007/09/19(Wed) 15:01:48 ID: yQQulp7U I've never liked or disliked Kihara, but after reading the respond number 873, I became to loathe her.
878 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/19(Wed) 17:03:33 ID: weZvtvU/ There was a rumor that the members of the smoking group would get together from time to time and bitched about Kihara.
879 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/09/19(Wed) 17:07:01 ID: weZvtvU/ By the way, due to the connections, Kihara was given the opportunity to have a regular column published in the idol magazine DUNK. Although her writings weren't particularly interesting.
886 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/11/13(Tue) 14:59:37 ID: PLHC5DjT Kihara became a member of Onyanko Club because of her uncle's connections. She was too different from the rest of the members. That means the reason she became a model before Onyanko Club was also because of her uncle's connections, wasn't it?
891 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2007/11/16(Fri) 00:45:59 ID:MQS+8HRl
886 Even though Kihara's uncle had connections with Fuji TV, it was incomprehensible that they let that bitch join Onyanko Club. Was her uncle such a guy in a powerful position? Apparently, he couldn't understand that his niece’s face wasn’t at all suitable for an idol.
911 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/14(Sun) 02:32:55.21 ID: 4u+MF/Sd The only thing I remember for sure is that Okuda Mika said at the time, "Kokushō Sayuri, she's a fucking cunt!" I was too busy with my part-time job to watch Yūyake Nyan Nyan, but Okuda and I were seated next to each other at Kurume High School.
912 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/14(Sun) 03:04:16.22 ID:fHHL6Y/u Nagoya Mika got scared when Tomoda Mamiko glared at her.
913 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2013/07/14(Sun) 07:50:59.50 ID:K1s0GEVO
911 Okuda repeated her junior year of high school, didn't she? She got fired shortly thereafter for smoking and then revived for nudity. Was she not a slut by any stretch of the imagination? 912 I see that one of the smoking group members was more strong-minded than Nagoya. I find it scary. Tomoda was particularly a standout girl, wasn't she?
914 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2013/07/14(Sun) 13:37:55.64 ID:PvZ9X9N6 But Tomoda was apparently being stalked by weird guys back then. She seems to have said so on the show.
915 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2013/07/14(Sun) 13:51:30.50 ID:rA94brOF Relationships among the earliest members of Onyanko Club.
Smoking Group Boss: Tomoda Mamiko Core members: Okuda Mika, Enokida Michiko, Yoshino Kayoko, Satō Mayumi Lower position members: Kihara Aki, Nagoya Mika
Separate Group A: Nitta Eri, Nakajima Miharu Separate Group B: Kokushō Sayuri, Fukunaga Satomi
I guess it woulda been something like this.
916 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2013/07/14(Sun) 19:40:03.57 ID:77KCyQig If the smoking group had stayed, it's possible that Onyanko Club's record debut would have been ruined. In a sense, Onyanko Club is now a legend because the smoking group got fired at the perfect time.
917 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/15(Mon) 18:43:58.12 ID:K0rkqFHf Utsumi Kazuko was threatened by Okuda Mika and Tomoda Mamiko as soon as she joined Onyanko Club.
918 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/17(Wed) 11:41:13.97 ID:ypvunTr5 If the five members of the smoking group had stayed, would Kokushō have kept hiding in the background? If the others had backed Kokushō, would they have confronted the smoking group?
919 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/26(Fri) 13:38:42.82 ID:OQtBOjR0 Tomoda Mamiko was said to look like the actress Tanaka Yūko. She was beautiful, prominent, and probably a bossy character. Had she stayed, 1985 might have been a very different year. Although Takai Mamiko and Kawai Sonoko stood out as core members that year.
921 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/30(Tue) 09:17:44.70 ID:yhijufIO Well, if the smoking group had dominated, the current legend of Onyanko Club would never be what it is today. "When he asks me out on a date, it's no fun if I don't give him my virginity♪" (Note that this is a line from the lyrics of the infamous Onyanko Club song "Don't Make Me Take Off My Sailor Uniform".) Some members of the smoking group wouldn't have been virgins any longer.
922 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/30(Tue) 09:21:50.50 ID:yhijufIO The girls of the smoking group mocked the country bumpkin Nitta Eri. But they've been mocked ever since they got fired, to this day. You never know what will happen in life, do you?
924 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2013/07/30(Tue) 14:30:34.15 ID:5+rj9y5g Tomoda Mamiko also looked like the early Moritaka Chisato. She was a talented girl too good to be fired. It was all right for the smoking group members to have been fired, except for Tomoda, but I wanted only her to stay.
925 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/30(Tue) 18:59:14.08 ID:kpis8x5d Tomoda was considered to be very beautiful, but was she really that beautiful? Okuda was more beautiful than Kokushō in the beauty contest on the TV show "high school girl special", though.
926 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/07/31(Wed) 19:11:47.86 ID:lRbXjlcG If Okuda had stayed, she would have become popular along with Nitta. Since Okuda seems to have loathed Kokushō, she might have joined Nitta's group. Or would Nitta have become Okuda's minion?
927 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/08/01(Thu) 00:17:15.98 ID:5W48DB8p If the smoking group hadn't been fired, Okuda Mika would have been a popular member. Yoshino Kayoko was suitable for Nyangilas both in terms of looks and personality. (Note that Nyangilas was the most insincere and unorthodox subgroup in Onyanko Club, which could only be described as making fun of people. Its members were Tatsumi Rika, Kihara Aki, Nagoya Mika, and Shiraishi Mako.) Tomoda Mamiko was more of a beautiful sister character than an idol. Enokida Michiko and Satō Mayumi would have had no special characteristics.
930 Name: No Name Whatsoever [] Posted Date: 2013/08/07(Wed) 09:53:28.13 ID:dxbRG1s9 The earliest members of Onyanko Club seem to have been more of a bunch of yankee high school girls rather than amateurs.
932 Name: No Name Whatsoever [sage] Posted Date: 2013/08/08(Thu) 00:00:40.33 ID:yrozPyla All Nighters would have been legendary. If the smoking group could have been legendary. However, a number of rumors, which may or may not be true about the smoking group, have persisted to this day. This is due to the popularity of Onyanko Club. The members of the smoking group themselves have no value.

However, it was broadcast only in the Kinki region, such as Ōsaka and Kyōto, and not nationwide like Yūyake Nyan Nyan. Therefore, the group didn't gain a lotta popularity, and after releasing one single record, it faded away. In addition to Ichigo-chan, there were many other idol groups at the time that were formed to compete against Onyanko Club, but none of them gained popularity. Typical questions and answers regarding Nitta Eri, the iconic figure of Onyanko Club, on Yahoo Answers
Can you believe the fact that a girl with such a face became the iconic figure of Onyanko Club and the most popular idol?
Yoshino Kayoko, who was a beautiful and cheerful girl, should have been the ace of Onyanko Club, and Nitta Eri shouldn't have been the ace of the group.
Top:Nitta Eri, who became the iconic figure of Onyanko Club, and Kokushō Sayuri, her biggest rival. Middle:Nitta Eri and Kawai Sonoko, who was reputed to be the most beautiful among the members of Onyanko Club. Bottom:Nitta Eri and one of the most popular members, Takai Mamiko, who subsequently married Akimoto Yasushi.
Nitta Eri, Nakajima Miharu, and Takai Mamiko.
Nitta Eri on a bicycle, on her way home from Saitama Prefectural Fukuoka High School(It wasn't taken by a photographer, but by a local fan in secrecy).
Top:Nitta Eri and her boyfriend, on the campus of Saitama Prefectural Fukuoka High School. Bottom:They were on their way home from high school by riding bicycle.
Before the summer vacation of 1983, when Nitta Eri was a freshman in high school, she started dating a classmate who was a member of the rugby club. Nitta lied about not having a boyfriend when she appeared on All Night Fuji High School Girl Special (Episode 2) in March 1985. This was in stark contrast to Yoshino Kayoko and Tomoda Mamiko, who honestly revealed the existence of their boyfriends. Nitta didn't stop dating this boy after she became a member of Onyanko Club in April 1985. By July 1985, Nitta became the most popular member of the group, but she still continued to date him in secrecy. However, the two parted ways in March 1986, just before they graduated from high school. The boy suggested to Nitta about parting ways. He concluded that it was very difficult for them to continue dating any longer, since they were now living in completely different worlds. Nitta subsequently said that his very sensitive kindness matured her from a very selfish girl into an adult.
From the September 5, 1986 issue of the photo magazine Friday.
Nitta Eri, and Enokida Michiko, one of the five members fired for smoking.
According to MECKEY, who was friends with Enokida Michiko at Saitama Prefectural Shiki High School, smoking wasn't so unusual there. Nitta Eri attended Saitama Prefectural Fukuoka High School in her hometown, but according to Meckey, whose hometown is the same as Nitta's, smoking was far more prevalent at this high school than at his. As evidence, smoking was basically not punished. On the other hand, Enokida was suspended for three days for smoking. More than 20 years ago, Nitta apparently made a remark on a TV program and in a weekly magazine that she smoked during her Onyanko Club days, but we can no longer confirm whether she really made such a remark. Considering the environment of Fukuoka High School at the time Nitta was a student there, though, it seems like that woulda been quite possible.
Nitta Eri, along with Yoshino Kayoko and Satō Mayumi, who were both fired for smoking.
Satō Mayumi hated Nitta Eri a lot for some reason. Satō said on Yūyake Nyan Nyan,“Personality-wise, I don't fit in with Nitta at all,” which made Nitta astonished. Also, Satō ridiculed Nitta because the clothes she wore were tacky and made fun of a movie that she saw, saying that she had bad taste. In addition, Satō, along with Enokida Michiko, provoked Nitta by pulling on her sleeves and skirt. In a certain episode, host Tsurutarō asked the Onyanko Club members, “What kinda dreams are radical to ya?” Okuda Mika answered, “A dream of swimming naked in the pool." Yoshino Kayoko answered, “A dream of French kissing a handsome Westerner." Satō Mayumi answered, “A dream of watching Porn videos." Nitta, who had remained silent up to that point, responded to Satō's remark by saying, “It's outrageous to have such a weird dream!” Satō immediately glared at Nitta and said, "I know you don't like the dream, but I'm fine with it. So leave me alone!" The two met again long after Satō had been fired for smoking. On one occasion, when Nitta entered a clothing store in Harajuku, she encountered a manager who glared at her with a terrible expression. Nitta took a closer look at the manager, she realized that it was Satō! Nitta became very frightened and immediately ran away from the store. In contrast, Satō was good friends with Yoshino, and these two apparently continued to interact after their dismissal. Yoshino seemed to bring her child to this store to shop from time to time. On the other hand, some say that Yoshino got married in 2002. The interaction story between Yoshino and Satō is mainly from the mid-1990s, so if it's true that Yoshino got married long after that, it contradicts the story. It's not quite clear which is correct or neither, as there's no specific evidence on either case. If Yoshino's marriage in 2002 was a remarriage, then we'd say it doesn't necessarily contradict the interaction story.
Top:Nitta Eri and Fukunaga Satomi, both of whom were affiliated with the entertainment agency Bond Planning. Bottom:The August 1985 issue of Variety, an idol magazine, featured Onyanko Club before they became popular.
What's the truth about the early Nitta Eri? Nitta Eri claims to have signed a formal contract with the entertainment agency Bond Planning after her solo debut in January 1986 with the song Winter Opera Glasses. However, some idol enthusiasts believe the following story. "In fact, in October 1983, when Nitta was in her freshman year of high school, she auditioned for Bond Planning's idol group Shōjo-tai to select its members. As a result, she wasn't selected as a member, but became a trainee at Bond Planning. About a year and a half thereafter, she was selected as one of the original members of Onyanko Club, based on a strong recommendation from her agency. Bond Planning was also deeply involved in the production process of Yūyake Nyan Nyan from the very beginning, thus giving it an easy position to exert influence over Fuji TV. Therefore, it wasn't so difficult for them to make Nitta Eri and Fukunaga Satomi, who were affiliated with the agency, original members of Onyanko Club." Whether this story is true or not remains unclear. She claims that when she was selected as a member of Onyanko Club, she was no more than an amateur. However, it seems highly unlikely that a complete amateur with no connections whatsoever would be selected as an original member of an idol group exclusive to a major TV station such as Fuji TV. According to Nitta, she and her best friend, Nakajima Miharu, wanted to quit Onyanko Club immediately cuz she din't get along with the members of the smoking group. However, the smoking group was expelled from Onyanko Club, and as a result she stayed. This sounds plausible at first thought, but the only member of the smoking group with whom Nitta clearly didn't get along was Satō Mayumi, and there's no evidence that she didn't get along with the other members of the group. In addition, if it's true that Nitta became a member of Onyanko Club through a strong recommendation by Bond Planning, she couldn't have quit over something as minor as not getting along with Satō. Soon after Onyanko Club was formed, Nitta stated in Variety, an idol magazine, that from now on I'd like to do well in the entertainment industry. Therefore, it's highly doubtful that Nitta really intended to quit. Nitta is probably a wily woman who knows some discursive gamesmanship better than one might think. Note that Nitta was in the same grade as idol singer Honda Minako, who was also a member of Bond Planning at the time, but Honda seemingly ignored her. Not only that, but it is also said that Honda repeatedly harassed Nitta using her pawn, B-list idol singer Hashimoto Mikako, who was two years younger than her. Honda saw herself as an authentic artist, not just a cheesy idol singer, and demanded that her fans see her that way as well. Therefore, Honda hated Onyanko Club, which became extremely popular despite its terrible singing ability, and she seemed to particularly loathe its iconic figure, Nitta Eri. However, Honda apparently got along well with Fukunaga Satomi, who was a grade above her, for some reason. Fukunaga's praise of Honda as an authentic artist while she honestly admitted that she herself had only become a nouveau riche thanks to Onyanko Club may have fulfilled Honda's cheesy vanity. In contrast to Fukunaga, who buttered up Honda, it seems that Nitta didn't give in.
Nitta Eri, Akimoto Yasushi, and Takai Mamiko.
Needless to say, Akimoto Yasushi married Takai Mamiko. However, In the early days of Onyanko Club, he seemed to like Nitta Eri more than Takai Mamiko. He seemed to have seduced Nitta, but she apparently refused. He also had a close relationship with Nitta's agency, Bond Planning. Therefore, he was in a position to have relatively easy contact with Nitta.
Nitta Eri(right side) and porn star Nitta Emi(left side).
It was often pointed out that not only do these two share a similar name, but also a similar face. Nitta Emi was a member of an idol group called Romanko Club, which was formed by porn actresses. Nitta Eri was well aware of this porn actress who looked a lot like her, and she insisted that her own tits were a healthy pink, unlike Nitta Emi's.
After the disbandment of Onyanko Club, Nitta Eri answered with a smile to popular comedian Sekine Tsutomu's extremely lewd quizzes on a radio show.
Onyanko Club's Nitta Eri and AKB48's Maeda Atsuko are often compared cuz they were the aces of their respective groups.
Q136154273 Hidden ID 2005/9/20 11:36 I don't like Nitta Eri's viscous way of speaking. Has she been like that since forever?
Hidden ID 2005/9/20 11:44 Nitta's face and figure were below par, and so was her singing. Nitta didn't at all deserve to be a celeb. I didn't understand those who said this bitch was good.
Hidden ID 2005/9/20 11:54 She's always been like that. I don't like that way of her speaking either. Does Nitta think she's lovely? She's a middle-aged woman now, and on top of that, there's nothing good about her.
Q1110249601 nan 2006/12/12 18:02 I hear that former Onyanko Club member Nitta Eri was very popular. What was it about her that attracted many guys? In terms of looks alone, there were many other girls who were prettier, weren't there? Could someone who knew her prime please answer me?
ana 2006/12/12 23:15 I think it was her ordinary-ish nature that attracted people to her. She was like a cute girl in class. People may have found such a part of her approachable. If she'd been too beautiful, many guys woulda avoided her. Also, the fact that she was blessed with a hit song called “Winter Opera Glasses” was a major factor that couldn't be ignored. She was given the opportunity to sing that song because of her popularity.
aya 2006/12/12 23:21 Nitta's most attractive feature was her pouting jaw.
Q1112192096 han 2007/7/16 19:20 Nitta Eri was the most popular among the members of Onyanko Club, so why couldn't she succeed in the entertainment industry like Kudō Shizuka afterwards?
dre 2007/7/16 19:27 I think the main reason she was so popular during her Onyanko Club days was cuz people found her amateurishness endearing. Nitta Eri was the epitome of amateurishness and was therefore extremely popular. However, after graduating from Onyanko Club, it was tough for a character like her to compete with other female celebs. In the case of Kudō Shizuka, she had the singing ability to captivate people with her songs, but Nitta Eri had none of that.
Q1424314664 Hidden ID 2009/3/19 20:01 Why was Nitta Eri so popular? I often hear that Onyanko Club means Nitta Eri, but I don't understand the reason even after watching her videos on YouTube. I often hear that her ordinary-ish nature was the secret of her popularity, but then, I think all the other members besides Nitta had the nearly same atmosphere as well. At the time I was in elementary school and accepted the fact that Nitta was a very popular idol, but now when I look back at her videos I wonder why that was. I know this is a weird question, but I'd appreciate your answers.
hug 2009/3/20 1:05 At the time, her ordinary-ish nature was said to be good, but I didn't get it. Also, her singing was laughably terrible. However, it's possible that those aspects of her weren't so bad for guys. Btw, Nitta had a boyfriend who was a classmate at her high school, despite the fact that she was a very popular idol.
yab 2009/3/23 21:23 There were members who were considered more beautiful than Nitta at the time, such as Kawai Sonoko and Takai Mamiko. However, Nitta took the most prominent position with their debut song, and soon came to be regarded as the iconic figure of Onyanko Club. Unlike the other show-off members, Nitta was laid-back in both good and bad ways. In addition, maybe the boys felt that Nitta had the friendliness of a slightly cute female student from another school.
Q1035855675 kag 2010/1/26 21:15 Do you think that Nitta Eri in her prime could immediately become an ace if she joined Morning Musume?
ten 2010/1/28 6:52 I watched the videos of Nitta Eri at the time and I found her looks to be very problematic. I don't know why she was so popular. She wouldn't even be able to join Morning Musume.
Q1043501820 Hidden ID 2010/7/11 6:40 Were Kokushō Sayuri and Nitta Eri like cats and dogs when they were members of Onyanko Club? Can you tell me specific episodes about these two at the time?
s_s 2010/7/11 19:05 Kokushō and Nitta once had a very real fistfight after airing "Yūyake Nyan Nyan". This fight was included in the 100 best bouts on Fuji TV at the time.
Q1043532745 kai 2010/7/11 20:01 I recently read a news article and found out that Nitta Eri was the very top member of a group called Onyanko Club. I don't think she was that beautiful in her old pictures. Was she really so popular back then? Why did Akimoto Yasushi make her a center of the group? I find it baffling that she even became a celeb from being such a low-level girl. I wonder why people had to watch a girl of that caliber on TV. Her selling point was said to be ordinary-ish nature, but if anything, it seems to me she was way far worse than ordinary. I'm sorry I said that very clearly.
pol 2010/7/11 20:15 Nitta's face was average, but her singing was pretty terrible. Nevertheless, she was extremely popular. Nitta was incredibly affable, and I guess that's what made people think she was cute.
Q1245080682 Hidden ID 2010/8/10 23:48 Onyanko Club apparently was divided into two factions, Kokushō Sayuri's and Nitta Eri's. Which did you support back then?
Hidden ID 2010/8/10 23:54 I was a Kokushō supporter. As an elementary school kid at the time, I thought Nitta was fugly and also had a very weird voice. I still don't understand well why she was the most popular idol.
Q1345131098 kit 2010/8/11 22:17 Yesterday, Kokushō Sayuri and Nitta Eri, both former members of Onyanko Club, appeared on a TV program called "Confessions of the Showbiz World" and talked about each other. I watched it and felt that Nitta Eri had a pretty bad character. Nitta continued to bitch about Kokushō while laughing. I thought the bitch who wasn't shy about saying such things was Kokushō, not Nitta. I'm not of the Onyanko Club generation, so I don't know about their past. Has Nitta been like that since back then? I thought that she was an idol with an image of innocence and purity. I found Kokushō to be a more decent character than Nitta after watching the program.
Hidden ID 2010/8/12 16:50 I'm of the Onyanko Club generation. Nitta has always had that kinda personality. She sang in the Onyanko Club song, "New Membership Number Song", "Sometimes I'm selfish and annoy those around me, but they see my smile and forgive me, that's my weapon." Books written by people involved at the time also described a number of episodes of her selfishness. She quickly became so popular and the face of the group without any hardship at all, and this situation probably made her even more selfish. However, I think what she said on that show was more of a story of memories rather than swearing. The story of the rivalry between the Nitta and Kokushō factions is probably a subject for laughter now. Kokushō rather used to be a bad girl. At the time, the newspaper Mainichi Shimbun interviewed Kokushō, but her attitude wasn't very good. They therefore denounced her extensively in the paper, saying that she was cocky and had no common sense. In fact, she seems to have been really cocky, and now deeply reflects on what she said and did at the time.
Nitta was selfish and stubborn, and in addition, she wasn't good at group activities. She always hung out with only a very few of her close friends, such as Nagata Ruriko and Nakajima Miharu. Therefore, she was completely indifferent to any bullying or other problems that occurred among the other members. On the other hand, Kokushō showed her leadership as a jock girl. However, she was surprisingly jealous, had clear likes and dislikes, and was cocky. I think they were both like that at the time. Incidentally, Kokushō was pretty harsh to Yoshizawa Akie, who made her solo debut soon after joining Onyanko Club, and to Kudō Shizuka, who'd known Kokushō since before the group. As a result, surprisingly many of the members disliked Kokushō. On the contrary, I don't think there were many members who disliked Nitta. I guess Nitta had a more refreshing personality than Kokushō.
Q1445220384 yam 2010/8/13 16:18 If former Onyanko Club members Nitta Eri and Kokushō Sayuri had a real fight, who would be stronger? They did reveal their incompatibility on TV.
pea 2010/8/13 21:40 I think it's Nitta Eri, unexpectedly. During the Onyanko Club days, more members supported Nitta than Kokushō. Just being kind ain't enough to be a leader. However, in the case of Kokushō Sayuri, she's a strong verbal fighter, but seems to be able to eventually reconcile with her opponents with a smile. Nitta Eri seems to have a character that'll keep her grudges for a long time.
2010/8/20 2:48 I don't know which is stronger. However, in the case of Nitta Eri, I'd be afraid of her cuz some of her relatives are quite rough around the edges socially.
Q1247301712 tut 2010/9/19 22:58 Was a woman named Nitta Eri really an idol? She looks like a middle-aged woman in a supermarket somewhere around there now.
pum 2010/9/21 19:00 She was an ordinary girl everywhere. So it's natural that she now looks like a middle-aged woman in a supermarket somewhere around there. The normal-looking part was her selling point.
Q1048496695 ryo 2010/10/11 17:11 Former Onyanko Club member Nitta Eri openly admitted on a TV program, "I already had a boyfriend when I was a freshman in high school." However, I heard the members of Onyanko Club were prohibited from having relationships at that time. Her comment is like a blanket denial of the romance prohibition of the members of AKB, produced by Akimoto Yasushi. Junior high school students believe that idols aren't permitted to fall in love, so I feel sorry for them that she said such a nasty thing.
Hidden ID 2010/10/11 20:27 I agree. Those who say such a thing now, like Nitta, seem to think that idols are allowed to fall in love as long as they ain't uncovered. If they want a boyfriend, they just don't have to become idols, but they're pretty greedy. The idea of desiring to be pampered by both boyfriends and fans at the same time horrifies me. It was a shock for me when I found out that my favorite idol had a boyfriend. Even the old idols were like that, so I believe that today's idols definitely have boyfriends. I'm pretty sure that AKB members will be telling stories on TV shows in a few decades, such as, "Actually, I had a boyfriend when I was an idol."
Sanpo 2010/10/12 13:11 Nitta ain't negative regarding the prohibition of romance for idols. She just said that almost no one actually abided by it. Btw, Nitta's first sexual experience was when she was 13, though.
Q1349377888 Hidden ID 2010/10/27 14:47 Which is less cute, Nitta Eri or Maeda Atsuko?
Hidden ID 2010/11/3 13:26 Nitta Eri. Ever since she was an idol, I've never understood why she was so popular.
Q1149687046 sof 2010/11/2 2:11 Does Nitta Eri have a protruding jaw?
fin 2010/11/2 15:16 Nitta Eri, who sang “Winter Opera Glasses,” has a protruding jaw.
Q1450732364 Hidden ID 2010/11/21 1:16 I often hear that Maeda Atsuko of AKB48 can be identified with Nitta Eri of Onyanko Club. I'm not of the Onyanko Club generation. Therefore, I finally found out through internet research that the two are indeed similar. They both have several similarities, as shown below. "They're the face of the group, even though they ain't very talented or good looking." "They're given special treatment by Akimoto Yasushi." "They've no ambition or motivation." "Somehow, they're number one in popularity." But if they're so similar, Maeda might even resemble Nitta's bad side, don't you think? Nitta Eri's career stalled after her graduation from Onyanko Club, and as of now, she's no presence in the entertainment industry, to the point where it's hard to tell if she's in or out of the business. Maybe Maeda Atsuko will be like Nitta Eri after her graduation from AKB? It seems to me that Maeda hopes to become an actress. But she doesn't have the acting ability or unique presence to captivate people, so she's likely to work in minor supporting roles. In the future, will Maeda appear on some "what's that idol who was popular in the past doing now" type of show?
Hidden ID 2010/11/21 1:33 I totally agree. Maeda will be on such a show in 10-20 years. I think she'll be like Nitta Eri. It seems to me that the only time she can be popular is now that she's in AKB.
Q1258441627 ysd 2011/3/23 23:27 Was Nitta Eri the most popular member of Onyanko Club? I believe there were other prettier girls, but why was she so popular?
yun 2011/3/24 19:05 Ah, I thought the same thing as you. I don't think she was particularly cute in my opinion, so I've a strong feeling of why. When I heard her episodes of the time, she was extremely self-centered. I can hardly say she sang well either. I imagine that Nitta Eri was a little lispy and spoke in a sweet tone, which was why she was considered cute by many guys? That's all I can think of in her good points.
Q1059256645 nik 2011/4/2 21:57 Kokushō Sayuri couldn't win over Nitta Eri. And now that times have changed, Shinoda Mariko can't win over Maeda Atsuko. Kokushō and Shinoda are completely more beautiful. Is it still the case that plain looking girls whom we somehow manage to approach, even though the times are different, are still popular?
Hidden ID 2011/4/2 23:32 The perception that Maeda and Nitta are plain looking is correct. The reason they both became popular is cuz Akimoto Yasushi gave them special treatment and always put them in a good position. If these two ugly idols would have stood on the same ring as everyone else, they wouldn't have been popular.
Q1465592069 Hidden ID 2011/6/30 18:20 Are Nitta Eri and Abe Natsumi two of a kind? I saw a post on Yahoo Answers stating that Nitta Eri is to Onyanko Club what Abe Natsumi is to Morning Musume. Does that mean that not only Abe Natsumi but also Nitta Eri plagiarized?
sol 2011/7/1 3:21 The world consists of a pyramid structure, with a large number of the poor and a small number of the rich. I think that the supporters of Nitta Eri were rather few rich guys, and many of them were ignorant and rude guys who were at the bottom of the pyramid, such as gangsters and punks. Kawai Sonoko's supporters were the guys who've been rich and yet intelligent for generations.
Q1173479156 sar 2011/10/16 17:55 The mystery of idol group popularity. Yesterday, footage of Onyanko Club was shown on TV, and a woman named Nitta Eri was mentioned as the most popular idol. Frankly, I thought Kokushō Sayuri and Watanabe Minayo were more beautiful than her. Why was Nitta the most popular idol?
Yosentsūka 2011/10/17 6:58 I never understood why Nitta Eri was so popular back then. She was selfish and only worked as if it were a part-time job, yet somehow she was popular.
Q1495009759 cor 2012/10/2 9:29 Nitta Eri of Onyanko Club. Why was she so popular despite the fact that she was a very average girl? She recently made a TV appearance as a former idol and her deterioration was so terrible. I couldn't believe how she was able to appear on TV in spite of her appearance like that.
ich 2012/10/2 12:53 She wasn't an unreachable beautiful girl for people. Therefore, she was popular cuz people thought of her as if she were a familiar classmate. Of course, she was prettier than our actual classmates cuz she was able to be an idol. She was a terrible singer, which probably made people feel closer to her. Unlike Kokushō Sayuri, she didn't work hard to become a big star, so I guess people thought she was good because of her amateurishness. At the time, though, I couldn't understand why she was so popular either.
Q1497449854 rat 2012/11/19 14:55 Concerning former Onyanko Club member Nitta Eri. I don't mean to be rude, but I've been a bit curious about this for a while and would like to ask a question. There have been a number of programs aired in the past few years featuring idols from the 1980s. But no matter how many times I've seen footage of Nitta Eri in her prime, I've never once thought she was cute. I don't know about the other female idols of the time well, but I think they were cute. If you call it a matter of taste, that's all it is. Only Nitta looks so lame to me, even though I find other idols who had just debuted at the time and looked provincial to be cute in their videos. I don't think she even had the singing ability to compensate for her lousy looks (I'm sorry). I was a little kid at the time, so I can't even get a sense of how popular Nitta had become. Did people who knew about those days think Nitta was cute?
yos 2012/11/19 17:32 In hindsight, she was laughably provincial. She was a pretty lame girl who deserved to be from Saitama Prefecture. However, Onyanko Club rose rapidly, thanks to Nitta's popularity, and as soon as the year 1986 arrived, their popularity reached its zenith. Anyway, that was the mood of the times. It was Nitta who symbolized Onyanko Club. Therefore, Onyanko Club was positioned by the public as an idol group, like an bunch of amateurs.
bra 2012/11/21 22:24 I watched "Yūyake Nyan Nyan" back then and wondered why Nitta was so popular. Onyanko Club was a group that sang terribly, which was the norm, and Nitta's face was way below average. However, Onyanko Club gave people a sense of familiarity, as if they were the amateurs beside us. Therefore, the girls' looks and singing ability tended to be of little concern. In addition, the tremendous momentum of the program "Yūyake Nyan Nyan" itself probably had an impact on Nitta's popularity.
Q12118347582 ich 2013/12/23 12:59 What do you associate with Nitta Eri?
brt 2013/12/23 13:05 I've always wondered why she was the most popular member of Onyanko Club. Her singing was pretty terrible.
bea 2013/12/23 16:56 She was a former member of Onyanko Club and was a terrible singer. I still remember the shock I felt when I first heard her debut song, "Winter Opera Glasses."
gin 2013/12/23 21:57 It reminds me of Nitta Emi, a former porn star whose name and face were extremely similar to those of Nitta Eri(^O^)
Q12165055922 Mighty Action 2016/10/1 23:56 Please tell me! What was so cute about Nitta Eri? She now seems to me to be a middle-aged woman who is everywhere.
sth 2016/10/2 4:31 That's really true, isn't it? Well, when she was younger, wouldn't they have liked the "girl-everywhere" part of her?
A thank-u comment from the questioner I feel that there are many more beautiful ordinary women around than Nitta She had none of the glamour of a star. But she was lucky enough to have the right timing and to be able to sweep the world of idols.
Q11170861316 takodestakodayo 2017/2/22 18:38 Which was a worse singer, Nitta Eri or Kokushō Sayuri?
sek 2017/2/22 20:34 Both bitches were like the pot calling the kettle black. Nitta Eri was something that makes people feel embarrassed just by listening to her. I still don't understand what made Nitta so popular.
sei 2017/2/22 23:50 It musta been Nitta Eri. Her singing was exactly at the level of being noise and pollution.
Q10196443375 Hidden ID 2018/9/20 20:04 In the 1980s, did you think Nitta Eri was cute? Personally, I think Nakayama Miho and Honda Minako, who debuted at almost the same time as Onyanko Club, were cuter. Is it a matter of taste?
X_ray6723 2018/9/21 11:07 I've never thought Nitta was cute. In terms of looks, Nakayama and Honda were definitely better than her.
ara 2018/9/24 20:10 I had no idea why Nitta Eri was so popular. Even now, I still don't understand. I personally think that Nakayama Miho and Honda Minako were far cuter, prettier, and more attractive than her.
Q13231678833 Hidden ID 2020/9/16 12:36 Who would be the first to think of an idol who was popular but being not so pretty or cute?
neko1991 2020/9/16 17:44 In terms of nostalgic idols, I can say that Nitta Eri of Onyanko Club.
A thank-u comment from the questioner Nothing shows more than the fact that such an ugly girl was the most popular member of the early Onyanko Club, how crazy the aesthetic sense of elementary, junior high and high school students at the time was.
Q11242740821 om5 2021/5/5 22:40 Which was prettier, Nitta Eri or Kawai Sonoko?
sod 2021/5/5 22:50 Kawai Sonoko was far more pretty than Nitta Eri. There was an incomparable difference between the two. Inexplicably, however, Nitta seemed to be more popular at the time.
Q10244287280 1149931252 2021/6/6 17:31 Did Nitta Eri have such a large number of fan base at that time?
kyūjī 2021/6/6 22:39 I think she was the most popular idol back then. I remember her making the following interesting remarks. "My debut song, "Winter Opera Glasses" was actually written by me, not by the fucking Akimoto Yasushi!" "A fucking stalker stole my stained underwear!"
Q14251207469 Hidden ID 2021/10/18 23:35 I'd like to ask Kuma Benkei。. In the early days of Onyanko Club, Nitta Eri was the most popular by far, but what the fuck was so good about that bitch? Onyanko Club was basically a group of ugly girls, but there were relatively beautiful girls like Kawai Sonoko, Kokushō Sayuri, and Takai Mamiko from the very beginning. I have no idea why the popularity was concentrated on Nitta. It seems to me that this should be mentioned as the very first of the Seven Wonders of Onyanko Club. Looking at past Yahoo Answers, I realize that I'm not the only one who feels this way, and there're many others. I'd really like to see Kuma Benkei。, who favors Nitta, explain this. Alternatively, I don't mind if it's someone else.
no_ 2021/10/19 14:09 I'm someone else! Well, I think the reason she was very popular was cuz she seemed so normal, as a member of an amateurish group! That said, looking at her early photos, she was fugly! I started watching "Yūyake Nyan Nyan" around the middle of May 1985, more than a month after the program first aired, so I don't know about its earliest days. I definitely didn't have any special feelings for Nitta! I couldn't even imagine the fact that Nitta has remained in the entertainment industry until this very day!
Response from Hidden ID 2021/10/22 20:59 It'd be normal to feel nothing at all when you see Nitta. It seems to me that there were too many abnormal guys back then.
tak 2021/10/19 14:51 Amateurishness was her selling point. However, I wondered why she was so popular. Apparently, Nitta Eri had no interest in show business and wanted to quit soon, but managed to continue until September 1986. Her graduation from Onyanko Club was due to Fuji TV's intention. During her Onyanko Club days, she often went AWOL for selfish reasons.
Response from Hidden ID 2021/10/22 21:11 Nitta may not have been so motivated at first, but after the smoking group got fired, she seems to have gotten cocky.
Kuma Benkei。 2021/10/22 10:18 Greetings, I'm Kuma Benkei。. I'm sorry it's taken me a while to respond to you. As you pointed out, I've had a certain favorable impression of Nitta Eri. However, please understand that this is just my personal taste and also I don't represent the feelings of other respondents. First, I wanna say that I'm not a fan of Onyanko Club. I just think Nitta Eri is good to some extent, but I'm by no means a hard-core fan or anything. Compared to the other members of Onyanko Club, I think that Nitta's shyness, less like a celebrity, and more like an amateur anywhere, gave people a good impression of her. She was neither a good singer nor a good dancer, and she didn't make a particularly outstanding impression on people. I think that her ordinary-ish nature was her strength. Generally speaking, Onyanko Club was like a group of amateurs on "Yūyake Nyan Nyan", so I didn't expect them to be anything amazing from the very beginning. Under such circumstances, my favorite was Nitta Eri. She was a friendly, smiley character who made people think it might be fun to date a girl like her. Wouldn't you agree? That's what I mean. Her ordinary-ish nature was irresistible to me. She didn't seem to have any weird sexiness or slyness, and yet she was cute♪ (^○^)b.
Response from Hidden ID 2021/10/22 21:12 If Nitta was an ordinary-ish girl, then there woulda been such girls in your class. I don't understand the feeling of daring to seek such a point from idols. I don't think Nitta's smile was particularly attractive compared to the other members. Also, Onyanko Club's selling point was their amateurishness, but in reality, they were a group of professionals or semi-professionals from the very beginning.
Kuma Benkei。 2021/10/22 21:29 There's a difference between ordinary-ish and just ordinary. Well, if we look around, there're certainly ordinary girls, but those girls don't always smile at us, do they? Nitta fulfilled the wish of an ordinary man who wanted a girl to smile at him. There're plenty of just ordinary girls everywhere. But they don't show us the smiles and kindness we expect, do they? They ain't very nice to us, are they? However, idols live up to our expectations. That's why they're valuable. As far as that's concerned, though, idols are unordinary. Nitta became popular cuz she was unordinary, even though she seemed to be pretty ordinary.
Response from Hidden ID 2021/10/22 22:16 I got what you meant. That said, was Nitta so affable all the time? Wasn't that only a small part from the overall image of Nitta as an idol? I could say that the act of interpreting only a part of the surface in an enlarged way is something that no one other than fans could ever understand.
Kuma Benkei。 2021/10/22 22:20 Fans tend to do that. They overinterpret to their own convenience. It's a piece of cake for them, Yoo-Hoo\(^o^)/
A thank-u comment from the questioner I understood to some extent how a fan felt. I have to say, however, that it's extremely difficult to accept approvingly the fact that Nitta became the most popular idol, even if only for a brief period of time.
Q11266501191 asterisk 2022/8/16 19:36 During your high school days, you naturally had a number of classmates prettier than Nitta Eri, hadn't you?
Hidden ID 2022/8/16 19:49 There were at least more than five girls in my class who were cuter than Nitta. I was flabbergasted that she was the most popular idol with a face like that. She looked corny, had a single eyelid, a flat nose, dry hair, and was even a terrible singer from the countryside. She was worse than Yamamoto Susan Kumiko, one of the least popular members of Onyanko Club.
Q13297335288 asterisk 2024/5/1 1:15 Was the confrontation between Nitta Eri and Kokushō Sayuri a fixed game, like pro wrestling? I heard that it was often mentioned on TV programs that the two didn't get along during their Onyanko Club days (I don't know specifically, as I don't watch those kinds of programs). However, I suspect that such a thing was just made up out of irresponsibility to create a buzz to have Nitta, who hadn't normally had a chance to appear on TV, to appear repeatedly on the programs. Both were separate groups, but it seems to me that the two weren't as confrontational as the public made them out to be. When Nitta retired from Idol in 1990, she said the following. “I was really surprised when my little cousin boy asked me if I was quitting cuz Kokushō bullied me. There's absolutely no fact of any confrontation between me and Kokushō." Then, long afterwards, why would she say the exact opposite? That'd be just a stage direction to make the show more exciting.
pro 2024/5/1 6:19 I'm sure these two have something to say to each other. That aside, Kokushō told the following episode on a certain variety show. Nitta told the staff in advance, "I don't wanna fucking wear a bikini at the upcoming swimsuit photo session!" However, on the day of the photo session, she was only provided with a bikini. Nitta, who definitely didn't wanna wear a bikini, refused to come out of the waiting room, which apparently delayed the start time of the event. The staff tried hard to persuade her, but she wasn't convinced. Kokushō, who became irritated, rushed to Nitta and persuaded her as follows: "Unless ya show up, the event won't start, so don't be selfish and come out!" "Everyone is waiting for ya!"
On that program, Kokushō said that she and Nitta didn't get along particularly well, but they weren't bad either. Therefore, it's possible that Kokushō and Nitta weren't in fact in a confrontational relationship, and that there was no pro-wrestling-like confrontation structure. It seems to me that the people around them spread the word as if the two were in confrontation.
Response from asterisk 2024/5/1 8:36 In fact, I think it was something like that. However, according to old Yahoo Answers, the two had amusingly told each other's confrontation stories repeatedly on several programs more than a decade ago. I guess they were staged after all. Since the two were leading members of Onyanko Club, those programs were probably worth watching for their former fans.

A smoking scandal before Onyanko Club
Takabe Tomoko claimed that the cigarette wasn't lit, but who would believe such a thing after seeing this photo?
Enlarged photo of smoking.
Another smoking photo.
Takabe played a flamboyant and crazy delinquent girl in the drama, but apparently she was doing the same thing behind the scenes.
Public face as an idol.
In June 1983, the weekly magazine Focus published a photo of 15-year-old Takabe Tomoko, a popular idol at the time, naked in bed with a cigarette in her mouth.(Takabe) Takabe attracted a tremendous amount of attention when she played the role of a flamboyant and crazy delinquent girl in the TV drama "Tsumiki Kuzushi"(Collapsed Piles of Blocks) that aired from February to March 1983.(Site) The drama is based on a true story about the daughter of actor Hozumi Takanobu, and its final episode achieved a 45.3% viewership rating.(Asagei) This was the highest rating for a drama broadcast on commercial TV, and the record that has yet to be broken.(Asagei) In addition, as a member of the popular idol group "Warabe", Takabe appeared on the popular variety show "Kin-chan no Dokomade Yaruno!"("Kin-chan's Is There a Limit?") starring comedian Hagimoto Kinichi, and she was attracting nationwide attention.(Takabe) Therefore, the photo caused a huge scandal and gave the general public an extremely negative impression that the actual Takabe was doing the same thing behind the scenes as in the drama.(Site) She was forced to refrain from all of her entertainment activities for a year due to the scandal.(Takabe) Accordingly, she was kicked out of Hagimoto's program and Warabe.(Takabe) In the autumn of 1983, she was scheduled to star in the movie version of "Tsumiki Kuzushi" and the TV drama series "Sukeban Deka"(Delinquent Girl Detective), but of course both were cancelled.(Site) On the other hand, she somehow managed to avoid being expelled from Horikoshi High School, where a number of idols were enrolled, although the school gave her a long suspension.(Takabe)
Takabe was dating an 18-year-old boy who played an extra in the drama, but they apparently broke up.(Site) The boy first brought the photos to a TV station, but the station's upper management tried to cover up the existence of the photos.(Site) He therefore offered the photos to Focus, a weekly magazine that had nothing to do with the idol industry, but apparently he didn't demand any rewards because of his wealthy family background.(Focus p36-45) He was pissed off that Takabe stated publicly in a magazine that she was a virgin, even though she was only 15 years old but had plenty of experience with sex.(talk p7) Takabe herself subsequently claimed that the photos were taken only as a prank, that she had no sexual relations with him cuz he wasn't her true lover, and that the cigarette wasn't lit.(Takabe) However, no one believed such nonsense, and Takabe's false image as a pure and innocent idol completely collapsed.(Site) By the way, her enthusiastic fans including members of the biker gangs were furious at the boy's behavior and stalked him, along with the media, resulting in his suicide.(Site) Despite the scandal, she wasn't fired from her entertainment agency, Bond Planning, and she was able to return to show business after a year.(This agency also had Onyanko Club members Nitta Eri and Fukunaga Satomi, singers Honda Minako, Matsumoto Iyo, and Shōjo-tai.)(Takabe) Upon her return to show business, she published a book titled "Confession: I'm Sorry For Doing Things Halfway".(Takabe) However, because of the scandal, she never shined again as an idol.(Site) Concering the photo, a journalist from Focus magazine wrote that Takabe had "Nyan-Nyan" and then smoked a cigarette.(Focus p36-45) The term "Nyan-Nyan" is a euphemism for sex, and the journalist didn't wanna use the term "sex", so he used "Nyan-Nyan" as an alternative.(Focus p36-45) The fact that she was singing "Nyan-Nyan" in Warabe's hit song "Medaka no Kyōdai"(Siblings of Japanese rice fish), was naturally on the journalist's mind.(If the term "Nyan-Nyan" were translated literally into English, it would be "Meow-Meow".)(Focus p36-45) The scandal made Nyan-Nyan a buzzword, and the term was also used in the variety show "Yūyake Nyan Nyan" featuring Onyanko Club that was launched in April 1985.(Songs P198)
