nina lifted a brow, amused despite herself at the scene unfolding around --- for once at a time no one could call ungodly. there was nothing like the posturing of boy competition in the middle of the afternoon to drive her need for something in her system sky high. when the apparent victor turned to her, she couldn’t even help contain a laugh. “ sorry, babe, but I’m not one for games I can’t win. gotta pass you up on this killer offer. “

“ only ... “ nina began, words slow and methodical without even looking up at her new table-mate. she had her laptop open in front of her, but the screen had long gone dark. though, long, in this case, could have only been three minutes. nina was filing her nails and didn’t really care. “ ... here for the wifi “ she finished with a small upward glance. “ so encroach away. “

if i were to shove nina into the square hole of an archetype, she’d definitely be the lazy genius. your girl has some sort of monster iq and really, the most minimal amount of motivation. she’s that person everyone hates who does the bare minimum and ends up in the better performing half of her classes. 

last year her older brother accidentally overdosed and it threw her whole family for a loop. he was doing some pretty hardcore drugs with his friends at school, and ending up making the wrong friend, who wasn’t as concerned as he should have been for her brother’s health. he hasn’t been the same, but nina gets that and respects that; it’s her parents that infuriate her, because ever since it happened they’ve been so hard to get to.

nina herself was pretty heavily involved in the party scene too, but since her brother she’s sworn off of anything harsher than weed --- though you’d be hard pressed to tear that vice or drinking out of her hands. she hates dealing with people when she’s sober, and is even less inclined to do so nowadays. that’s part of why she’s chosen sigma omega delta over the other sororities on campus; their reputation doesn’t quite match her tastes, but she could use some quiet solidarity. plus, their vibe is chill, and where there’s intellect, there’s less of a chance she’ll want to solve her anger with her fists. 

she definitely has anger issues!! honestly if she let herself think too deeply about herself she’d hate being inside her own mind ... which is exactly why she’s avoiding any introspection deeper than a kiddie pool. nina may be a bit rough around the edges on a good day, but i doubt the handful of friends she has would want to be around her if she let herself truly be furious about her brother, and her family, and everything else. 

she likes hacking. she will go and dick around on websites, send people fake emails and get things for herself ... for the fun of it ... and this year she’s maybe, just maybe maybe, skewing her grades. not making them better than what she could get on her own, but she’s not been in the mood to actually go to her classes, and so she can’t actually get them on her own for the moment. 

she’s sure there’d be repercussions if anyone find out but nina just can’t bring herself to care about that. she’s still using her brain for her grades, if not in the conventional way. she’s a star at explaining away any kind of black or white morality; everything is grey. 

she’s very, very fake. she does this more to get through the day to day of life without sparking any arguments; in any conversation with a stranger, or even someone she’s just not that close to, she’ll give in so easily, with a smile on her face, and walk away with the comfort of knowing not a word she said was true. she likes the idea that no one can know her unless she lets them in. 

she definitely has the potential to be soft and sweet and she hates that about herself. her parents have lost any sort of backbone in her eyes, and she sees herself as the only one looking out for her brother in any sort of way, even if she’s having to do it from school a few states away. with her friends, even, she hates being the one showing any sort of vulnerability. she can be a surprisingly good listener and shoulder to cry on, but balks at the idea of needing that herself. 

i don’t know what else to say???  she’s utter garbage but she knows it and revels in it, because she doesn’t have any other kind of armor. i’d say please love her but tbh she’d hate it if you did.
