nsyongjin‌:

the agent yawns as he looks at the mass of paperwork on his table, papers upon papers waiting to be filled. perhaps he should have concentrated on it more during the week, but it’s too late now, and all he wants to do is get everything done with so that he doesn’t have to go through that damned mission again. too many mistakes, it was a miracle it ended in success, and while yongjin is happy about the latter — more mistakes still mean more paperwork, more explaining to do why things went wrong.

he wakes up in the morning and settles on the dining table with a pen in his hand, hoping to finish everything for good. the cup of coffee on the table has grown cold by the time his phone pings with a message, hours have passed by without him noticing. the agent pushes the papers around to find his phone buried underneath them, unlocking to see the texts.

a fond smile spreads across his face, touched that the younger has thought about something like that. as if on cue, his stomach grumbles, reminding him of the fact that nope, he hasn’t eaten yet. he has an inkling that the other will offer to eat with him, but he asks nonetheless.

he’s on the last red light to yongjin’s apartment when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. must’ve spent an all-nighter again, kangwoo mumbles quietly behind his full-face helmet. he’d be lying if he says he doesn’t immediately make a mental note to clean up his senior’s living quarters if necessary. 

speaking of all-nighters, he might need to start appreciating his current sleeping schedule before his next mission arrives.

it's not that the mission require his undivided attention 24/7. even during stake-outs, kangwoo still manage to find some time to close his eyes and relax between shifts. but it was more of shut-eye instead of sleep. shut-eye means you’re still somehow aware of your surroundings, while sleeping means you’re able to let your guard down and not worry about being woken up from a sudden ambush.

his train of thoughts are interrupted by a familiar building that comes into view. ah- he drove on autopilot again... at this point kangwoo isn’t even sure whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, his habit to do most mundane (his standard) things on autopilot. working as a clandestine agent dulls and sharpens his mind at the same time, it seems.

and true to his earlier guess, the last text was from yongjin, telling him that he forgot to eat. rather typical of yongjin-hyung. good thing he made extra today.

when kangwoo first adopted marx, he really thought he was prepared. after all, he had done so much research a month prior to the d-day, table filled with stacks of books and internet tabs full of articles on how to care for a cat. he’s not one to jump head first into a situation during missions, and neither does he in real life.

if it was the old kangwoo, he would’ve thought it’s too troublesome and canceled the adoption instead. but the shrink insisted that he should find a feline companion. something about helping him channel his emotions better.

but he didn’t expect panicking when he first found out that marx threw up on his carpet. didn’t expect that his worry for the feline’s wellbeing would overwhelm his anger for having a carpet ruined (he hates disorder and messes, okay?). he didn’t expect revving up his motorbike and slipping through the traffic to the nearest pet shop with marx in his arm. 

fortunately, kangwoo managed to call someone to accompany him before he lost it.

“sorry i dragged you out here. i couldn’t really think straight back then.” he sighs, stroking the fur on the feline’s head gently. “you were the only one that i could think of contacting, hajoon-ah.”

001. how do you dress outside work? what’s your preferred attire? ( @nsseon & @nsdaeil )

it completely depends on his mood. mostly simple things, like turtlenecks or t-shirts. sometimes leather jackets if he’s feeling bold. at home it’s loose shirts and sweatpants. at the gym its form-fitting shirts, weight-lifting gloves and training pants. not a big fan of revealing too much skin.

002. what’s your greatest fear? ( @nstaeyong & @nsdaeil )

helplessly watching someone he loves die. the death of his friend is a huge blow for him, so he shrinks into himself in fear he might have to watch another. less attachments, less people to worry about.

003. what’s your preferred weapon, why? ( @nsjaewon, @nsdaeil, @nsjihae, @nsyongjin )

he’s a short-distance fighter, so knives, brass knuckles, or batons. sometimes he can also utilize the things around him like fishing lines or needles. guns are too loud for him. except if he’s on sniper duty, that is. he doesn’t mind getting dirty.

004. how did you get recruited to nis? ( @nsjaewon )

his uncle convinced him to join NIS to help pay for his mother’s medications. he thinks kangwoo has a natural talent to be an agent and that it would be a waste if he just ends up as some office worker or working ordinary jobs.

005. what’s the hardest part about being a nis agent? ( @nsdaeil, @nsjihae, @nshyerin )

having certainty as a luxury few can afford. and the fact that they may encounter death in every corner of their lives. kangwoo is already planning to live in a farm when he retires. 

if he’s still alive, that is.

006. do you like drinking alcohol? if so, what is your favourite liquor? ( @nsdaeil )

he’s not picky, opting for cheaper alternatives like canned beer or soju. but he won’t say no to rum or gin either. quite affectionate while drunk so if you want to see his true self,, treat him for a drink. just be prepared to lose a lot of money because kangwoo is most definitely not a lightweight.

007. do you prefer coffee or tea? why? ( @nshajoon )

he loves collecting tea from each country that he had visited. but he also cannot function well without coffee. 

008. do you have any scars? how did you get them? ( @nstaeyong, @nsdaeil, @nsyongjin )

he lost count. there’s definitely some on his back, but the ones visible to him is on his right arm, crooked fingers, side of the stomach, and his thighs.

009. what’s your eating habits? which cuisines do you like? ( @nsyongjin )

he always does prior research before visiting a country; what is the staple food, the place to find it, the distance from their safehouse, etc. depending on whether he gets a day off or not, he usually travels around the area to try the food. added ‘eat at a michelin star restaurant’ to his bucket list. his current favorite is indian food.

010. how often do you listen to music? if so, what are your favourite songs? ( @nsjaewon )

quite often. he still keeps his father’s ipod shuffle and listens to it before operations to calm himself down. somehow listening to his parents’ favorite playlist makes him feel like they’re there with him. during work out, he listens to his own music. his favorite songs are wind of change by scorpion (you can usually hear him whistling to the rhythm), pumped up kicks by foster the people, learn my lesson by daughtry, and--don’t tell anyone--what is love by twice.

011. how often do you exercise? what’s your favourite sports activity? ( @nshajoon & @nsdaeil )

whenever he’s not out for work. kangwoo always have difficulties sleeping if he hasn’t done any rigorous training for the day, so he made sure to condition his body every day. he also does pilates and muay thai.

012. do you live at the dormitories or another place? where? ( @nstaeyong )

he lives in an apartment. kangwoo moved out right after he realized he’s having night terrors. he also prefers having a space for himself, as his occupation can be quite... draining. plus, he doesn’t have to worry about fighting his roommate about living conditions.

013. what’s your relationship with your family? do you keep in touch? ( @nsdaeil )

definitely. visits his mother a lot whenever he can. goes drinking to his father’s tomb too. he’s still angry at his brother for ‘giving up’ so easily, so kangwoo still hasn’t gathered the courage to visit his.

014. how was your childhood? do you have a favourite memory? ( @nshyerin )

despite the monetarial problems, kangwoo was happy. his favorite memory is when they visited the carribean bay as a family together back in the 2000s. he knows his parents struggled to save the money to go there and because of that kangwoo still treasures that memory of them. that was their final happy memory together before shit hits the fan, after all.

015. what did you major in? why? ( @nsjihae )

international relations. his teacher told him he’s good at english and should try out for it. he had wanted to be a doctor, but he also needs to graduate as soon as he can to help his brother make money for their mother’s dedication. fortunately, kangwoo ended up loving the major and even participated in their campus’ activity to distract himself from the loneliness.

016. how do you spend your free time? do you have any hobbies? ( @nsdaeil & @nsyongjin )

when not visiting his mother or exercising, kangwoo usually cooks. he likes watching cooking shows on tv and would sometimes take note of the recipe if he wants to try it out. if he made too much, he usually just give the rest to his friends.

017. are you comfortable with talking about your past? ( @nsdaeil )

not really. he probably will never be ready. but he will tell you that it’s not interesting enough to tell anyone. just pry it open gently, and he might accidentally spill some parts of it. the only way for you to get it out is by hypnotizing him.

kangwoo is a creature of habit.

if anything, he has a deep-rooted dislike for impulsivity. surprises are never pleasant, whether its confetti popping right on his face at the end of his birthday or an unaccounted gunman appearing out of a corner during operations. outings are to be planned a week prior, just right before he starts jotting down his plan for the week. kangwoo's really more of a careful planner than a natural improviser, after all.

and one of his habits during the weekend happens to involve a particular... talkative colleague at work. and a batch of bone soup that he had cook a little more than he can eat. perhaps on purpose.

there’s a brief moment of silence where round eyes just stare at the small screen before him, thumb hovering upon the ‘send’ button. lips tugged into his front teeth before he finally tapped on the screen once and shove it into the pocket of his jacket. he doesn’t want to risk getting caught in heavy traffic, especially while carrying food to yongjin’s apartment.

who’s that boi oh shit *bass boosted* what’s up i’m eve, kangwoo’s writer here at NIS! it’s been a while since i rped so i hope you guys can bear with me ;u; i’m so excited to be here, tbh! his muse is one of those who just creeps up on you and i have zero impulse control so,, yesh.

hails from a middle-lower class family. they had some financial struggles after he was born

his childhood mostly consists of helping his parents out either with chores or job

takes after his mother a lot and way closer to her, but he has his father’s hands when it comes to handiwork

anyway their lives were pretty much,, peaceful. they learned to make do with what they have

until one day they received a call from the hospital that their father was found dead on the way home after delivering one of his pieces to the customer

their mother quickly took over the role of the backbone... but it didn’t last long because she was diagnosed with cancer shortly after

and boom. an uncle they never knew they have appeared with a job offer for the big bro

ofc, the boy took it

....only to die on his fourth year during a mission. death favors the daring?

so kangwoo has no other choice but to join NIS as well, despite his mother’s refusal

surprisingly came out as one of the top ten in his batch. his uncle always thought he had the potential

this dumbass forgot to put this in his bio so... during his second year of being an active agent, he watched his close friend and partner murdered in front of his eyes. he himself was tortured by the enemy until he somehow managed to break free and finish the mission

staggered into the hq all bloodied up

so now, dude is kind of... traumatized. but he doesn’t let it get to him (or does he?) since he can’t afford to lose money for his mom

but he has been having difficulties cooperating with people afterwards. he’s scared of losing someone he cares about again so he keeps people within an arm’s length

has a cat to help him calm down during the night terrors
