Progress Update
Almost all the CGs for the 2nd episode are drawn, but there are no backgrounds there. We have also systematized the code and added new locations to the territory of the barracks and the camp.

From the second episode:
It was all my fault.
I fell on my back next to the corpse and stared at the sky. Adrenaline was accelerating blood in the body and did not let me calm down. Lungs were bursting out of breath.
I covered my face with blood-stained hands. The knuckles were aching and the wound in my thigh was throbbing. Eyes stang and almost immediately thin streams of tears flowed down my cheeks.
I tried to suppress them, but the more efforts I made, the more they were gushing down. I was alone in this unknown world.
What mistake will be the next?

Interesting Facts #2
We have collected some more interesting facts about the game and its development and are in a hurry to share them with you!
We, the developers of GP, are the real twins, so we have identical tastes, views and ideas about good games. However, it does not save us from disputes as they always lead to the best results;
Noasaki draws full-fledged backgrounds and Orizori writes code for the first time;
Lien's “airtime” is shorter than Nemo’s intentionally;
The topic of religion will be touched in the game, but it does not reflect the developers' point of view and the situation in the real world;
One of the wall paintings in the barracks is a fragment of Noasaki's art, but it has nothing to do with GP;
The military uniform of each of the conflict parties has a single style with slight variations, but the characters are stubborn and wear it in their manner;
Easter eggs are planned in the game.

Episodic Release of Guilty Parade
We have been thinking for a very long time and finally have decided. The game will be divided into 5 episodes that will be released as they are done.
An episodic release will simplify our work greatly, alleviate a financial burden and will provide you with updates.
The 2nd episode will be released only after completing the work on a draft of the common route, story logic and approval of all game mechanics. Besides, episodicity will allow us to expand the script, write more additional scenes, increase the number of CGs and improve the quality of the game in general. The downside is the game engine (Ren'Py), which can break save files with an update of the game build (although we will try hard to avoid it).
Good points:
Regular updates;
Major episodes (~ 4-5 hours of play);
The ability to influence the development process by your feedback;
Support the project;
More content in the game.
Bad points:
Probably non-working save files;
Waiting for a new episode.

Progress Update 04/07/2020
Finally, we are ready to publish the results of our work at the moment:
The script of the common route is almost written, it remains to complete one important scene and all additional dialogs. All texts for materials (such as documents and articles) that are to be found during the investigation are written;
10 new backgrounds and their variations are drawn as well as new variations are added to the old ones;
7 new CGs (without a background) and 5 new additional images are drawn;
Almost all sprites are ready for the full game; side images of minor characters are in the progress;
The mechanics of the crime investigation are finally approved, so an inventory will appear in the game where you can re-read/view the found documents/objects.

The Development Details of Guilty Parade
We would like to tell about the plot and the development of Guilty Parade.
The desire to create our own game appeared a long time ago, but the concrete idea of GP came across our mind about 3 years ago and finally formed in mid-2018. In the beginning, it was planned as a classic short ADV visual novel. But working on the plot we decided that the story required scope both in events and characters.
This story is primarily about people. The world they live in is not as simple as it might seem at first glance, and the characters have their secrets.
So what about the universe of GP? It is an alternate post-apocalyptic world in the beginning of the 20th century. Due to the environmental disaster associated with the pole shift, most of the glaciers had melted, so vast areas of the earth ended up underwater. A war broke out between the survived people about which the main character Nemo does not remember anything. You have to solve some riddles to disclose the biggest intrigue of the visual novel.

We did not try to make the characters ideal, on the contrary, they have many weaknesses, partly comic, partly tragic. Everyone has their own quirk, their habits and demeanour are unpredictable. Hope you will like someone!

Playing the game, you decide which side in the military conflict to support. At the moment, there are 3 routes in the game, but the events based on your choices (including the revealing of the characters’ backgrounds) vary greatly. You can learn everything about their biography and personality if you show great curiosity and persistence. We would also like to note that sometimes your mistakes help to discover secrets and solve some riddles faster.
Last year we also released the demo version (about 3+ hours of play). Feel free to download it on Steam!

Our small team consists of only 2 people:
Noasaki – a scriptwriter, an environmental artist;
Orizori – a character artist, a programmer.
Our responsibilities are divided conditionally, almost everything we do together by discussing the characters’ design, CG, locations and main events.
Usually, it takes 6-7 hours a day to work on the game. Sometimes we have a productive day, sometimes we procrastinate for a long time, fall into despair when we realize how much remains to be done, sometimes we work with enthusiasm. From time to time, we have crunches, for example, before the demo release, we deprived ourselves of sleep to meet the deadline. In a word, the days go by differently but working on such a huge project as GP is a tedious and monotonous task. However, we always look at the results of our painstaking work with pride and satisfaction.

Let’s work, comrades!
Working on the game we have to overcome many difficulties and work out the most comfortable schedule. Not everything is smooth, something is done reluctantly (like routine). Now we want to tell you about the most difficult and time-consuming everyday tasks.
Social Media. We love it. We do love it very much, however posts take a lot of time to think of interesting themes, prepare material and draw additional illustrations. Therefore, we apologize for the breaks between posts.
Crunch. Yes, it is a usual practice in our modest team. We are actively fighting with karoshi (過 労 死 - “death from overwork”) by forced days off.
Perfectionism. “You must be better, better, better,” the brain whispers. In addition to the main work, each of us, the developers, is improving the skills. It takes a couple hours of life daily.
Painstaking work. Perhaps it is the most exhausting thing both emotionally and physically. It includes programming where you need to take into account a lot of little things, drawing some changes on sprites, CGs, backgrounds, leveling the volume of sounds, music and ect.
Multitasking. Only two people develop Guilty Parade, so the whole amount of work is divided equally between us (between Noasaki and Orizori). You can not just draw pictures or just write the script, you can’t only program or just edit the text. There are many tasks which are often interesting, but sometimes are too boring.
We would really like to walk this difficult path (from the beginning of the game development to its release) with you, if you do not mind ;)
