how do you feel about not being to save your sister?

so i’m gonna answer this META because thackery is not totally up to talking about his sisters death.basically i wanna touch on the subject of DEATH in 1600s salem. quite easily thackery would have exposed to death whether it’d be working on the farm or his mothers countless attempts at giving birth to another child !! ( i personally like to think of emily as the sort of miracle child – three still births prior and what ! a little sister ! oh gosh how thackery is so taken by her despite his inital desires of a little brother instead. ) he even witnessed the trials of all the accused girls. the actual film depicts the year emily is taken as 1693, which would paint the scene at the end of the salem witch trials

and gosh do the salem trials make him that much more protective over emily. she is the shining light in a time of such darkness for him. i like to think that her childlike innocence in 1693 would have been rare to find. anyways actually WITNESSING her death would scar him. inches from being able to save her, thackery is literally sentenced to watch the life leave her eyes and that is what HAUNTS him everyday. once his father died (which again shorter life expectancies back in the day), thackery would become the sole provider and caretaker and he had already failed his family.

skip forward some odd three hundred years and there is no overcoming his grief. his literal curse is “live forever with his guilt.” imagine that, his failed heroics would be the reason the binx family would eventually die out. so basically this tumble of bad events begin with not being able to save his sister. i also like to think that thackery would’ve easily traded places with emily given the chance (as max did to save dani at the end of the film). there’s no doubt in my mind that he would willingly trade his life for hers.so to basically sum up the question, thackery is ridden with grief & guilt – even after the film’s ending (((:
