           Tit for tat. She could work that way. “Sherlock Holmes. I’m a detective. Consulting, civilian. The parents of some of your school mates asked me to look in to the matter. I have a slight reputation for … unusual cases.” All hint of a smile faded away. “I’m here to do what I can to help them.” 

                    Consulting detective. So she wasn’t an officer. He tugged at the hem of his sleeves nervously. Could she really figure out what was happening around him? He wanted it to stop, more than anything. No more hospital trips, no more parents looking at him like he was to blame.

                    He looked down at his hands. Seven at his first school, four at his second, two more before he left Japan. “ Sixteen... Thomas makes sixteen. ” Ryou’s chest hurt thinking about it in numbers like that. Sixteen friends who wouldn’t wake up, all because they’d tried to be nice to him. He looked up at her, eyes wide. “ I want to help, I do... but I-I don’t know what’s happening. I black out sometimes and then... t-then sometimes I wake up... and they don’t. ”

          Sherlock wasn’t certain about this case. A series of mysterious comas, seemingly centered around one boy. Rather fantastical sounding, elevated by the elimination of likely coincidence. He’d moved across the world, and this trend had followed him. 

It had been three days since a group of parents of the various victims had come to her, and she’d learned all she could from medical documents and reports. Now, faced with the boy himself, she didn’t feel like she knew any more than when she’d started. “That is the idea,” she said crisply, taking a seat next to him. “Why did you move from Japan?” 

                Ryou’s brow wrinkled a little bit as the woman sat beside him without any introduction. She certainly knew him, but who was she? Even a hint towards her identity would have been helpful. But there was nothing, not even any sort of visible badge to imply she had any authority.

                But Ryou wasn’t rude, he’d asked a question and she’d answered, if loosely, so he would do the same. “ I have family here, ” he said softly, “ and my father travels, so I came to stay with them. And things were… not going well at my last school. ”

                He tilted his head at her. A question for a question. “ Who are you? ”

                  He had hoped that moving back to England would be a blank slate. His grandparents were happy to take him in and he was happy to be back in a home he’d grown up in, but Japan to England was apparently not far enough to run to get away from whatever this was.

                  More people had fallen into comas around him. More friends utterly unresponsive to anything he or the hospitals tried when he woke up. 

                  Ryou sat in the hospital hall, an unfortunately familiar scene now. Nothing was changing. Nothing was getting better. He put his head in his hands. Why was this always happening?

                  He heard footsteps approach and looked up, expecting to see a doctor or maybe police, but instead there was a woman he didn’t know approaching him instead. Was she related the boy from school? “ Can I help you..? ”

                 “I can’t do anything about it. Believe me, I would love to get through one episode of Doctor Who without the TV set freaking out on me.” Perry doesn’t try to be a pain in the ass ( at least not where the TV is concerned ). For all the ghost stories he read before he died, he can’t explain why the things that happen around him happen. His gaze locks with Ryou’s and a brow arches as his form becomes a little more opaque. 

                    “ I know, I know, ” Ryou said, hoping to placate the boy. He was trying to help with Perry’s afterlife situation, but there was really only so much he could do when the ghost wasn’t having any of that moving on nonsense. Ryou watched him fade slowly back into sight and smiled warmly. Well that was an improvement at least. “ Hello there, ” he said, pleased to see him again. “ You weren’t there when I came in, ” he added, just in case Perry started to think Ryou was the one losing his grip on things. “ Do you want to see if my tablet has better luck with you? ”

                 He’s actually still perched on the couch. Perry wasn’t going to fuck with the TV further but he’s not mentally prepared for Ryou’s scorn quite yet. “It just kind of happens, all right?? I have very little control over this…astral projection of my formal self.” His nose wrinkles up in distaste ( though, he supposes facial expressions are useless right now ). 

                   A roommate who was a hazard to merely his television was still a better roommate than his last one. Ryou just shrugged and went to unplug the tv, frowning when the static continued on despite that. “ Okay, that’s just cheating. ” He sighed and dropped the plug, hoping it and Perry would settle down at some point. He looked around the living room, eyes finally falling towards the couch in something that was half instinct and half educated guess knowing the ghost. “ I’m not mad. I’m not going to sage the place because of a little static. ”

                    Every time. The television crackled with static as Ryou came inside. He looked around for his latest spectral roommate to no avail before he crouched down in front of the screen. “ How do you manage this every time? ” he muttered giving the machine a tap on the side. It only crackled at him louder. “ You make it really hard to ‘ Netflix and Conspiracy ’ when you do this, you know that Perry? ”

“You realize that this, this attitude – this is why bad stuff keeps happening in our apartment, right? It’s this whole happy-go-lucky haunted-as-fuck thing you’ve got going.” She gestures vaguely at him, her own hot chocolate warm between her hands – like she has any room to talk. After a moment, Coraline shrugs.

     “Yeah. I would too. But like, how cursed is too cursed?”

            Ryou hid behind his cocoa and shrugged before taking a long sip. Sure. That was... decently true. But at least he usually cleaned up his messes with minimal lingering spirits attached. He hummed and tapped his fingers on the mug in thought. “ If it was a game with a demon attached... pass. I’ve had enough of that, honestly. But your run of the mill cursed object? Sure, I’ll give it a go. ”

                  “ I would PROBABLY play a cursed video game, ” Ryou admitted. Pretty brave words for a boy tucked into the corner of the couch and sipping hot cocoa with marshmallows. But hey. He’d seen worse. “ I mean … I suppose it depends on HOW cursed the game is … But I think it would be fun. ”

UNSEELIE COURT

Ryou and Bakura are twin Unseelie princes born on some long ago Spring Equinox night ( Bakura born first in the dusk of winter and Ryou second in the dawn of spring ). They are distant in line of the throne should anything ever happen to the Queen, but they’re both familiar faces in the Court regardless. Bakura is the more political of the two, where Ryou really doesn’t give a damn about the Court. They’re young by fae standards, but have seen empires rise and fall in the time of men.

The two are nearly identical and with even the weakest of glamours they can pass for each other. They are both winter pale with long white hair and the unearthly beauty of their Court. Ryou typically braids his hair, often with dead and dying flowers, and has black eyes. Bakura lets his hair down and wild, though will sometimes have a small braid from his brother, and has white eyes. Their voices are nearly identical as well, though Ryou is generally softer where Bakura is a little deeper.

They get along until they don’t. As fae siblings, there is a certain bond between them that few can match up to. They’re at their strongest when together. So while they have very different ideas on Court and mortals and what have you, they will inevitably return to each other. A threat to one is a threat to both and no threat has ever lived to tell of it. They are the epitome of ‘ ride or die �� siblings. While they could live without each other, it’s not something either is keen to try out, to the point Bakura will try to ruin anything that might take his brother’s attention. This inevitably leads to Ryou’s anger when his mortals get caught up in his brother’s wrath. Their fights are terrible and unspeakable and the lengths they go to dig daggers into each other is terrifying. Collateral damage is likely. And it’s been theorized by fellow fae that the only thing that will ever destroy them is each other. But in the end, the seasons always shift, and they return to each other. Never quite apologizing, but knowing that neither fae will ever change his nature.

HOGWARTS

RYOU BAKURA IS A HUFFLEPUFF. But the Sorting Hat would have placed him in Ravenclaw. Ryou embodies much of what Ravenclaw herself once highlighted in her students, but he values the traits of Hufflepuff far more. Trust and loyalty and justice are very big for Ryou who always wants to see the best in people. Yes, he’s creative and inquisitive, but those are just things. They don’t define a person. The way they treat others is more important.

His patronus is a Jackal.

THE SPIRIT IS A SLYTHERIN. While he embraces a lot of the traits that make a Gryffindor, power and cunning are a stronger pull for the Spirit. ‘ Slytherin can help you on the way to greatness. ’ Done & Done. His loyalty is hard won, but quickly proven. He will fight tooth and nail for him and his and will go to impossible lengths to achieve his goals. While he’s known to show bravery and daring, he also knows when to have a backup plan and retreat to fight another day.

His patronus is a Cobra.

traditional haunting verse where bakura is the 3000+ years old angry spirit attached to the millennium ring but without zorc and the twinned destines. bakura who survived the massacre of his people and sought vengeance he never got. who died with the ring and clung to it because he never got the burial rites of his people. because no one knew his name and no one was left to care. bakura who has spent the centuries growing angrier and angrier who is almost a demon himself at this point. bakura who cannot control the shadows but who thrives in them and can possess and torment those who carry his ring, not trapped within it but bound to it. bakura who cannot subtly possess anyone because he moves unnaturally and cannot speak modern tongues though he understands them and viciously curses in ancient egyptian. give me someone trying to banish him or purify him. give me someone trying to understand him. give me full angry spirit bakura

from the dm;; OR OR OR yugioh/pacific rim verse where the vessels are still vessels/spirit inheritors of some kind. and the jaegers need to be run with two people to fight the strain but no one can seem to sync with Yugi, Ryou, or Malik. They’re just on a level of their own and even matched against each other they don’t sync. They try with Yugi and Ryou and there is a legitimate fire started when they link up to the jaeger and no one can explain it. ( Yugi and Malik try and the same thing happens. ) But it wakes up something and opens the connection to their spirits ( like when Ryou touched the Puzzle and could suddenly hear Bakura ). Malik is the first to do it, he gets curious. His spirit is loud and encouraging. He wants to sync up to a jaeger that can only be piloted solo. They try to talk him out of it but he wants to and so he’s going to, one way or another. And it fucking works. None of the negative strain shows up on any of the charts. It’s a clean neural connect because he’s not piloting it alone, he’s got his spirit riding shotgun. The three of them become the only pilots to ride solo ( usually deployed in pairs or as a set ) and they are actually just unstoppable. Also the jaegers end up doing things that no one is really able to understand how or why??? ( Let’s play a fucking shadow game, kaiju! ) But it works so, have at it boys.

Ryou’s jaeger is NOVA SPECTER. Malik’s is UMBER FURY. & Yugi’s is RADIANT ALPHA. The three of them are top tier pilots. There’s a lot of pull for them to be stationed up and down the Pacific but the Tokyo Shatterdome has that sweet local Kaiba Corp pull that keeps them close to home most months out of the year.

Because this blog is a side blog, don’t expect to see NOVASPECTER in your followers list. That said, don’t be surprised if you don’t see MILLENNIUMSPIRIT either. I want to keep my dash largely anime focused, so I might not follow non-anime blogs until we have a sort of partnership going. If that’s not cool with you, no worries. We’re all here to have fun and do what makes us comfortable, have fun out in this big blue sea of nerds. If you don’t mind a little getting to know each other montage, cool! Let’s have a great time.
