                  // linda takes a deep breath, looking down at the.. thing in her hands with mild disdain, but also acceptance. she’d really tried. this... cooking stuff just isn’t her thing, and she wasn’t about to ask for help. no, she had to be independent and do it all herself, it had to be all hers.

the trouble is that it looks like a disaster. lopsided and leaning, the frosting perhaps blasphemous in how sad it looks, because frosting just shouldn’t be sad. she’d started to write ‘happy birthday tiff’ on it in frosting but quickly discovered this was a terrible idea, and given up; leaving behind a few random white frosted lines that might have vaguely resembled....some letters. or... not.

she hopes tiff at least appreciates the effort.

to be honest, she doesn’t know for sure how tiff feels about birthdays, but she knows the other girl likes food, so surely a cake would be a safe bet, she had assumed. oh, how wrong she had been.

with a small shrug to no one but herself, she marches as confidently as she can through the door, greeting tiff with a smile. ❛ hey, birthday girl, ❜ she says lightly, a touch of irony dancing on the fringes of her tone, ❛ gotcha somethin’. or.....tried to.❜ she sets the sad little creation down on the coffee table, regarding it a bit dubiously, as if she is suspicious of its orgins- oh, how she wishes. she remembers all to clearly every moment she slaved over it, and it is still the most disappointing thing she’s ever seen. 

❛ guess i’m- not much of a cook. ya don’t- have to eat it or anythin’, ❜ she wouldn’t blame anyone who shouldn’t wish to; if it tastes anything like it looks you’d be saving a life to steer clear, ❛ but i kinda.... thought i’d show ya. it’s the thought that counts, y’know. ❜ she awkwardly plants her hands in her pockets, rocking up on her toes. she was going to be so cool about it, and yet here she is, making it weird. ❛ so...yeah. love ya and hope you have a great day and all that, and... sorry it looks like i tried to poison you. ❜

|| the sun hadn’t even cloaked the sleepy city of hill valley in its morning shroud when Tiff had decided to wake up. she likes it that way – the city still in slumber and the dark of night clinging to the world. it feels empty, vacant, and she prefers it like that. the city belongs to her and her alone ; and it’s a great time to grab the fitness centre before anyone else.

     she doesn’t need music to lose herself in a dance. the choreography ingrained in her memory is enough to guide her, the echo of orchestral music reverberating in her brain. dancing is an escape, a release of all the pent up emotions that don’t channel well through a punch.

the imaginary music playing in her head ceases as she finishes in attitude, pausing for the fabricated audience to clap their adoration before she eases herself down from pointe, muscles trembling from usage. she walks over to her bag in the corner with a heavy sigh coming from parted lips, before taking a much - deserved water break. the tannen had barely closed her water bottle up again when she hears a familiar voice saying the nickname that makes her weak at the knees. she turns, throwing her water into her bag as she greets her friend with a small smile.

          ‘ McFly – fancy seein’ you here. ’ she teases, cheeks a darkened pink from both exertion and that goddamned nickname. ‘ Good t’ see you, too. ’ silence overtakes her as she ceases speaking, listening intently to what the other girl had to say. it feels odd to have linda seeing her, clad in her tights, leotard, and practice tutu. it feels more odd than the multiple times linda’s seen her naked. ‘ I’ll dance for you some more, if you want. I’m pretty good. ’

Tiff’s breath hitches when linda hands her a present, small and delicate in her calloused palm, less than perfect in its wrapping but still making her heart flutter inside her chest. Valentine’s Day. she hadn’t even considered buying the other girl anything, she thought they weren’t… like that. virid eyes flick upward to catch the girl’s gaze, and she steps forward, toned arms slipping around her torso and pressing the McFly to her.

          ‘Thanks.’ she murmurs against linda’s hair, silently hoping she isn’t drenched in sweat to the point that it repulses her partner. ‘ But I, uh.. I didn’t get you anything. Listen, don’t worry about that, I’m good. I’ll take you out, tonight. I mean, fuck – if you want, I’ll take you out tonight. You deserve it.’

                  // linda feels her mouth tugging up into a smile, but she blinks down a bit, uncharacteristically uncertain. she and tiff, they aren’t....dating. they aren’t an item; they just.... are. she doesn’t go for that romance stuff, and she doesn’t think tiff does either- but who knew; tiff is full of surprises- and she doesn’t want to give the tannen the wrong idea.

she just wanted to do something nice. and tiff would look hot in that lipstick.

❛ i mean- yeah, ❜ she stammers, the smile widening as she nods, finally meeting tiff’s eyes. it doesn’t matter what she’ll think, she just has to do it. that’s all. ❛ i’d like to see that. i’d like to see you doin’ anything. ❜ the last is with a playful raise of her eyebrow. “gotta admit though. i’m feelin’ pretty uncultured about now. ❜ her smile becomes a grin as tiff proclaims her greatness as a dancer. ❛ hell, i know you are, ❜ she says with a small laugh. ❛ you’re good at pretty much everything ya do. ❜

linda’s holding her breath when tiff accepts the losided little present, and it catches when tiff wordlessly envelopes her in a hug. envelop is the only suitable word; tiff is significantly taller than her, and returning the hug is slightly impossible without a stepladder. regardless, she finds herself grinning into the lower part of tiff’s shoulder. the other girl is damp, but linda doesn’t care. she just smells like- well, like tiff.

❛ ya don’t hafta get me anything, ❜ she ensures her, an earnest gaze meeting an intense green one to prove her sureness of this fact. ❛ i just wanted to do something nice for a change. ❜ it’s a teasing tone, but she’s halfway serious.

she nods, a smirk on her lips, hands returning to their patented position in her front pants pockets, thumbs hooked through the belt loops. ❛ of course i wanna go out with you. where ya wanna go? ❜
