Hello Floof! We are approaching 2 years without an update from the Nightmare series ;-; To put time in perspective, the series started when I was beginning my second year of highschool, I am now halfway done with my first year in college, I would always get so excited seeing an update or even one of the teasers, I would always try to read it in class because I couldn’t wait to read it when I home. I miss it so much. I think it is my favorite thing that I have ever read on this app.
this is honestly so touching 🥲 you have no idea how much this means to me because that was probably my very first series. your dedication to the series is so jaw dropping and I'm super sorry for making you wait. i want to finish it, i swear on my life but i just need to deal with a bunch of stuff right now

Shadows Under the Sun
Tumblr media
Idol: Lee Siyeon (Dreamcatcher), Ha Sooyoung (Loona)
Sometimes ignorance is bliss as they say, because when curiosity strikes... best be sure you're ready for what you wish to find.
Word count: 3.2k
Warning: threatening, violence, mentions of murder
Go back
little tip☕
It's almost halfway through the first semester and you were confident with your classes and your friends have been nothing but helpful. Nayeon had even suggested inviting them over for your break and that was still up for discussion.
The dreams and the heavy feeling of someone watching you was still there, but you were too busy with everything else that it often feels like it's not truly there.
You were good at distracting yourself.
You've also managed to meet one of the two werewolves at the campus, a quiet girl named Son Hyeju. And what was even more surprising was the fact that she approached you instead of the other way around.
News about you being a wolf had reached her and the girl was curious to know just who this new person was.
She was nice, despite her intimidating features. She helped you out with things no one other than Nayeon was capable of helping you with, and your friendship with the girl eventually bloomed into one of the closest you've had since coming here.
"Unnie, let's go." The younger girl called out while you were busy staring at the paper in your hands, walking mindlessly as she watched you. "I'm coming, I'm coming." You mutter without even looking her way and the dark haired girl only rolled her eyes before taking you by the elbow, guiding you down the hall so you don't bump into anyone.
For someone with heightened senses, you could be quite clumsy.
"What are you even reading?" Hyeju questioned as she pulled you closer, grumbling to herself about there being too many people. "History lesson." Is your simple reply and she rolls her eyes for the umpteenth time today because of course you were.
Something she's come to learn was your curiosity of the supernatural world. After the stories from your group of friends, you were even more intrigued by your own kind than anything. It also helped you have a better understanding about the people around you.
You figured it would also help you understand the unsettling feeling in your chest.
"Can't you read that later? I'm sure your friends are waiting for you and…"
When you don't hear the rest of her sentence, you slowly lift your head, blinking, before you're suddenly hit by a familiar scent that you've only smelled once before.
Roses.
What made the scent so distinct was the heavy smell of blood that laced with it and that alone made all the hairs on your body rise up.
Checking to see what Hyeju was staring at, you manage to see a group of people not standing too far away from the two of you. But your friend's glare was trained on a single person, one that looked oddly familiar, though you're sure you have no clue as to who she was.
But judging by the way she looked at you with disdain, you could tell that she was not happy with you.
"Uh, Hyeju?" You call, uncertain. "Who's that?" You ask carefully, only to feel her grip on your arm tighten. "Nobody important." She practically spits out before she starts to tug at your arm again, but you found yourself a little reluctant with following this time as your eyes once more fell on the pink haired individual.
"That's not someone you'd want to get yourself involved with, unnie. Trust me." The younger girl assures you with a more gentle squeeze. "She's bad news."
"But she's familiar."
Pausing in her tracks, Hyeju turns around so she's facing you and you shift from one foot to another. "I just… I feel like I might have seen her before and that's understandable but… it's her scent."
Hyeju eyes you quietly before she lets out a breath. "Her name is Ha Sooyoung." She starts while leading you to the side so you aren't blocking anyone's path. "She's one of the school's vampires and there's this story about how she turned and killed a few people a little while ago." You felt your heart skip a beat, fear creeping up your bones at the thought of people dying.
"We stay away from them. Vampires have made our lives a living hell in school, especially with our background, and Sooyoung isn't afraid to get her hands dirty or humiliate you in front of everyone." The younger girl explains with a stone cold expression. "For your sake, unnie, stay away from her."
And despite the warnings Hyeju had given you, your curiosity would always get the better of you. And when the familiarity of her scent doesn't stop bothering you, you let said curiosity do get the better of you.
"You should really listen to that friend of yours." Yeeun tells you when she finds you looking around the cafeteria. "As much as I'm not afraid of her, I don't want us getting into any trouble." The young elementalist states as she crosses her arms across her chest. "We're not getting in any trouble." You promise without turning to look at her. "There's no harm in looking."
"There is when a werewolf wants to get involved with a vampire." Jennie sighs when she finally joins you at the table, sensing the troubled look on Yeeun's face before she even gets there.
Frowning, you finally turn to your friends and catch the looks that they're giving you. "I just don't understand why she's so familiar somehow." Your frustration was becoming visible and Jennie placed a comforting hand on your shoulder, squeezing it for assurance. "Maybe you did know her in the past, but with the way things have been going, we don't want to risk anything." Your friend reasons and it's enough to calm you down somewhat.
But not to satisfy your curiosity.
…
"I swear if I end up lost in these woods I'm going to hurtle Chaein into the ocean." Despite your grumbling, you were faring quite well, navigating through the trees and finding the path whenever you'd get lost.
You thank your wolf for that.
And while you usually did your best never to enter any sort of wilderness without a companion, anyone that you'd be sure to ask to come with you was going to tell you that you shouldn't be here.
And you know that.
But you needed it… or so you told yourself.
There was already a pit forming in your stomach the moment you stepped foot onto the grass filled terrain but your determination to find out more about this Ha Sooyoung overcome that fear and fueled you to go further.
Foolish is what you'd call yourself later on. But as soon as you arrived at a clearing, you felt a bit of relief wash over you when you see a lake not that far away, so you take the opportunity to rest, taking your shoes and socks off to dip your feet into the cool and clear water, instantly allowing your muscles to relax as you breathed out.
Turning your e/c eyes to the sky, you mentally curse when you notice that it's almost sun down. "Of course it is."
"You know talking to yourself is sometimes a sign of you being crazy." A low and raspy voice greeted your ears and you immediately shot up, body tensing on impulse as you looked around to try and find the source of the sound.
"Then again… what even is crazy and what isn't?" You couldn't find anyone, but you could smell the faint scent of blood.
Well, at least Chaein wouldn't need to worry about drowning.
But why did that voice sound awfully familiar to you?
"Who are you?" You call out, sounding as confident as you could when deep down you were scared shitless as your senses heightened.
You weren't prepared for a fight. Even when Nayeon taught you everything you needed to know, fighting was never an option for you. Sure, you knew how to defend yourself, but if you could get out without having to touch anyone and vice versa, you'd book it.
The silence stretches on for a few more minutes before the rustling of leaves draws your attention to a tree that's slightly larger, and under the shade of it stood a figure you weren't expecting to see.
"... Siyeon?"
The familiarity suddenly made sense. And the ache in your chest suddenly started to bloom as you stared at the person who once meant the entire world to you… until your world came shattering down in blood and bones.
The blonde smiles wistfully while leaning against the large chunk of wood. "It's been a while." She says softly, her voice almost inaudible had your hearing not been dialed up to eleven.  "What are… how are you… "
Her expression only turns sadder as you splutter, unable to form a coherent sentence or ask what you needed to ask. "Missed me?" She inquired gently and you seemed to have lost your voice altogether.
What was she doing here?
"I thought you died…" She mutters while staring at your face, almost as though she hadn't memorized it enough when you were still a normal person. "Seems like fate has a twisted sense of humor." But despite the chuckle that falls from her lips, she doesn't find any of this amusing.
It was hurting her.
"What are you doing here?" Is all you manage to breathe out and she forgets for a moment that you have yet to grasp the situation you were in. "I'm…" Chewing on her lower lip, she let out a slow breath to recollect herself from the emotions that are trying to burst out of her chest.
"I'm sort of like you… but completely different, too."
That… that barely made any sense. What the hell did she mean by-”
"Siyeon, you know you shouldn't be out at this time." A new voice cuts in and your attention snaps to the newcomer with pink hair and dead eyes.
How and why did she know who Siyeon was?
"It's almost dark." The blonde says quietly, but it doesn't change anything on the other woman's expression. Instead, she follows Siyeon's line of sight before a scowl paints itself onto her features upon finding you there.
"What's a mutt like you doing here?" Sooyoung snaps when she steps in front of Siyeon. "Sooyoung-"
"I'm not a mutt." You bite back with a frown. "And I'm not here for trouble, I'm just here for answers." You clarify but Sooyoung isn't interested in anything that you're saying. "You either get out of here before the sun goes down or I'll make you regret it." She threatens but a hand on her shoulder pulls her back before Siyeon looks at her pleadingly.
"Sooyoung, don't."
You look at the two of them in confusion, puzzled as to what relationship they had with each other because the vampire suddenly…
Oh.
"You're like her…" Both of them look at you now and Siyeon gives a small nod before she finally steps forward, following as the shadow of the tree grows, allowing it to cover her like a blanket. "I know how this looks, but Y/n let me explain."
"There's nothing to explain." Sooyoung cuts in in a sharp tone but you soon turn to glare at her. "There is when my girlfriend was turned into a vampire!" You growl and Sooyoung tenses, fangs growing before she lets out a hiss. "You were gone for years. Do you think you still have the right to call her your girlfriend?"
Even when she did have a point, it wasn't like you had a choice. You thought you had died only to find out you turned into a werewolf, and to top it off your girlfriend - ex-girlfriend? - was now a fucking vampire.
And this girl? You wouldn't be surprised if they were together at this point with how she regarded you and the way you spoke about Siyeon. Or maybe it was one-sided based on how Siyeon was looking at you.
"This is my last warning, mutt." But this time, Siyeon turns to give her a glare, one Sooyoung refuses to back down from. "I said, don't." Her tone is hard and demanding, and the pink haired woman wants to argue, but seeing the look on the former's face made her back down, biting her tongue as she finally backed off.
Finally, Siyeon turned back to you, her expression softening when she met your curious gaze. "Can you come closer?" She asks softly and your gaze shifts between the two, catching the scowl on Sooyoung's face, before you finally take a step closer.
Siyeon meets you halfway once the sun allows her, by sinking further into the horizon, and soon you're an arm's length away from each other. And if she had a heartbeat you would surely hear it as she took in a deep inhale of air.
"You're really alive." She murmurs when her eyes trace over your features. "I thought we'd established that." You say, albeit a little nervous, because you still can't believe that she's right in front of you now after that fateful night.
A grin cracks over her features before she's pulling you into her arms, hugging you tight, and you could feel the coolness of her skin against your own warm one. She practically melts into you as your arms wrap tight around her waist, holding her close with relief washing over both of you, the piercing stare that Sooyoung sends your way becoming non existent.
"I missed you so much." She breathes into your ear and you bury your nose against her shoulder. "You have no idea how long I've been wanting to hold you like this again." She tells you and you give her a gentle squeeze. "Me too. I didn't think I'd ever see you again."
You both stand like that for a few more seconds before slowly pulling away, but her hands stay on your shoulders. "There's so much I want to say but for now, I'll tell you what you want first." She nods in Sooyoung's direction.
"I don't have anything to say to you." She scoffs, but Siyeon only rolls her eyes before she takes your hand and leads you to the other vampire. "Since Y/n says she needs answers, we're going to help her." She says cheerfully, completely ignoring the other, much to your amusement and Sooyoung's disdain.
"For now, let's go somewhere more safe."
..
"What's going on?" A shorter woman inquired. She had a sharp nose, matched with piercing brown eyes that were glaring daggers at the back of your head as Siyeon sat you down.
"Siyeon unnie found her dead girlfriend." Sooyoung grumbles with a scowl, arms crossed over her chest with her fists clenched. "And why does she smell like a fleabag?"
"Because she's a werewolf. Apparently, the one Nayeon turned the same night I found unnie." At that, the shorter woman's eyes widened before she's off her seat and marched over, but Sooyoung was quick enough to stop her, catching the flash of red in the older woman's eyes as she snarled. "Sua unnie, let her handle this. You know how she's been ever since we saw Y/n at school."
"That's a fucking mutt!" Bora scoffed, struggling in Sooyoung's hold. "She can't be here!"
"I don't like this as much as you do, but I'm doing this for Siyeon unnie." Sooyoung states in a calmer tone, one of them needing to keep a level head. "She needs this more than anyone. You know this." And much to Bora's chagrin, she knows that Sooyoung was right.
They'd sealed her fate that night when Sooyoung turned her, and as much as she tried to hide it, it was her guilt that allowed her to tolerate your presence within their home. Due to her recklessness, she ended up turning Siyeon, but it was all a means to save her life, albeit, not in the way the latter had consented to.
She was bleeding out that night, a large gash on both her stomach and leg. If Sooyoung hadn't stepped in, she would have most likely died that night.
"So… all this time you and I were dealing with the same thing." Siyeon's tone is somber, her expression one of sorrow when she realizes how cruel fate had been with you two. You were both walking the same yet different paths.
"It's been terrifying honestly, especially when school started." You lament, staring at your lap with a frown. "I had no idea who to turn to, everything was too much, and I didn't know anyone or what I was supposed to do. I just kept doing what I was told." You grimace as you remember those days, unsure of the people around you.
In those moments you had missed being an ordinary person without some sort of creature hiding inside of you.
"But you looked like you were quick to make friends." Siyeon says softly, though knowing you for as long as she has, she knows that you did have doubts when it came to something new.
And this was all definitely something new.
"I was still afraid of them before they became my friends. Jennie was intimidating and J always made sure to scare me." You mutter quietly, but contrary to your words, a fond smile makes its way to your face when you remember your friends. "They still scare me sometimes, but they're the best friends I never could have asked for."
Siyeon feels bittersweet with the revelation.
She's glad that you've found your own circle of friends that you could trust… but she's upset that she wasn't there with you through it all.
“I’m assuming you’re close with the other two werewolves on campus then?” She asks gently and you don’t hesitate when you nod your head. “Yoohyeon is more of an overgrown pup if I’m being honest. Hyeju is more intimidating despite being younger and shorter.” She snorts a little because she has seen Yoohyeon every now and then. The girl was too clumsy for her own good that sometimes even Siyeon couldn’t help but worry.
Though this Hyeju was a little more worrisome due to what Sooyoung had told her before.
“I’m glad that you have them in your circle.” She says that with nothing but sincerity and you can feel it in her words and the way that she looks at you. But there was an underlying message that told you a completely different story.
She was sorry.
She was sorry even when it wasn't her fault.
"Siyeon, I…"
But you don't know what to say. It wasn't your fault either, but what could you say in this situation?
Instead, you can only turn your head when you catch the sound of movement to your side. Immediately, you see Sooyoung and Bora, but there's that odd feeling again and as soon as your eyes lock with the former's, properly looking at her this time, all the hair on your body rises and you can feel the way your temperature shoots up.
And with the way Sooyoung's movement halts and her body grows rigid, Siyeon quickly notices.
"Did you just…"
Before you know it, your body connects with the floor with a sick crack, probably the tile breaking from the impact or your shoulder, you're not sure.
There's no pain though. It's nothing but a dull throb.
All you could really feel though was the body pressed against yours and the hand that tightens around your neck.
"You fucking imprinted on me?"
You know for a fact that you've fucked up.

oh you already choose one 👀 at first I choose yn and jinsoul would be a cute pair because of their 'close' friendship on the earlier stories. But after reading your yves "breathless" on your other blog.. although you said it's not tied w/ the series but I think yn x yves would be a great pair 😆 and glad to know you've been alright <3
there's no certain love interest as of now but we'll see eventually. i don't want to force a relationship with any of them so I'm going to do my best to make everything come as natural as possible. though the relationship with each girl is actually very unique

i have a question abt fnr. are the girls like actually students at that university or are they just attending it temporarily? i mean if their like “odd job” doesn’t require to be a student, what do they do? but like how would they just attend/be students at that uni temporarily and how would they take part in projects like the play then? hope that makes sense! and also JEON HEEJIN!!!!🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😂😂😂😂😂😂🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️❤️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🐈‍⬛(i want her to shoot me)
they are officially enrolled for that semester, though they aren't included in the play except for Yves and Heejin. though it's after things finally start moving I've opted that they dropped from their classes rather than continuing
Yes I would also take a bullet for and from her

Warning: guns, threats, blood, violence, mental negligence
little tip☕
When Sooyoung said you were coming along somewhere, you were not sure what she was talking about. Where she intended to take you was a mystery until Heejin pulled up into an all too familiar neighborhood and you soon understand just why Sooyoung wanted to bring you along.
Standing in front of your parents’ house, you felt your throat dry up when you saw the state it was in. The front door was off its hinges with police tape warning people to stay out, some of the windows were broken and you silently hoped that the red splatters were paint and not what you thought they were.
Ushering you forward, Sooyoung keeps an eye out as she has you and Heejin enter.
“What… What happened?” Your voice was a mere whisper when you saw more of the damages inside the house. Furniture was upturned, some even broken, papers and pictures littered the floor, and yeah, you’re pretty sure that it was not paint that was scattered in the different parts of the house when you saw more of it inside.
It looked like a fight happened in here, and given your situation, it wasn’t too far fetched.
“People came searching for clues.” Heejin says simply when she walks around, checking every nook and cranny for any possible clues they may have missed. “Not all on the same side.” She adds and you swallow thickly, nodding as you look to find Sooyoung entering through the back after checking the perimeter.
She jabs her thumb over her shoulder, pointing down a hall that you realized led to your parents’ bedroom and your old one before you moved away for college.
“Looks like they really didn’t get too deep into the house before the cops came in.” She says nonchalantly before turning to you. “Let’s see what your parents have stored away, shall we?” She doesn’t even bother waiting for you to respond, merely walking down the hall and expecting for you to follow.
And after what she did last night, you weren’t about to risk a bullet to the head for disobeying.
“How do you know my parents are hiding something here?” You can’t help but ask when you enter the room, eyes going over every untouched surface and your heart sinks when you see the things your parents used to keep around with them.
Your mother’s favorite perfume, your father’s lucky tie, their favorite books, everything.
Did they really just leave you to fend for yourself without any form of protection or warning?
“The same way we were able to find you.” Was all she said when she opened the walk-in closet, humming as she began to look around and landed on the safe that was hidden in the very back. “Bingo.” Grabbing a device from her back pocket, you don’t even bother to look, too busy looking at everything your parents once had before Sooyoung had to call you over. “Mind helping me out here?” She quirks a brow at you and you’re snapped out of your daze to hesitantly join her.
Crouching down, you see that she’s managed to crack open the safe and found a large stack of files along with a few other items of theirs that you remember held great importance to them.
“What are those?” You ask quietly when she starts to look through the files and Sooyoung hums thoughtfully before handing you one. “Might not be much, but it’s still a clue.” She says without looking away from the files, and you soon understand that a handful of these were documents from the bank.
Every page Sooyoung turned to, you could see an insane amount written in each one, though all having different names and numbers. But what catches your eye is the locket your mom kept in the safe along with a watch your father had claimed to love.
Gently picking both items up, you let out a sigh while turning them both in your hands, the sadness creeping up in your bones and spreading like wildfire. You don't know whether to scream or to cry, but in the end, Sooyoung just pulls you out of the closet and searches for Heejin.
She saw the way you looked upon spotting your parents' things. Letting you stay longer would probably result in you staying there for who knows how long.
Though when your steps falter as you reach the door somewhere along the way, Sooyoung catches the way you look inside and she's somewhat surprised when you don't even bother asking for her permission when you gently push the door open to step inside. Simply, she follows you until you reach the foot of the bed, quietly taking in the room that was once yours.
"You sure are a fan of movies." She notes when she sees various posters on your wall, notebooks splayed over your desk and books scattered somewhere else. She hides a cringe with how colorful the room is.
Compared to that, your bed was neat and untouched, just how you left it.
"Can I just… grab some clothes?" You hesitantly ask, ignoring her comment as you turn to face her, finally remembering that she was in the room with you and the weight that was draped over your shoulders. Though that seemed to lessen a little when she nodded without thought before you grabbed a bag and then started to pick whichever clothes you felt like taking with you.
Sooyoung only observes while walking further inside the room. She doesn't say much as she takes a seat on your bed. "You seem to be taking this whole thing well." She soon says and your hands stop midair, clenching the shirt you had in your grasp before letting out a shaky breath.
"If you think developing panic attacks when my life is at stake is 'well' then I sure as hell seem to be fine." You can't help but snark at the girl despite the fact that she could easily put a bullet through your head.
But honestly, with how things have been going the idea was becoming more appealing than sticking around.
To your surprise, Sooyoung only grins while leaning back with her hands on your bed. "Considering you've still got some bite despite everything, I'd consider you handling things well." She muses and you have half a mind to throw something at her because how fucking dare she for taking your situation so lightly?
Then again, this was all normal to her and the other three.
After you finish packing, Sooyoung stands when you do before she's right behind you. When you look at her, your breath hitches when she leaves barely any space between the two of you and she has that teasing and mischievous glimmer in her eyes as she tilts your chin up to get a proper look at you.
"I'd suggest you keep that mouth of yours quiet when it needs to be. Not everyone has my patience." She chuckles and you hold your breath, only letting it out when she lets go and finally exits the room, expecting for you to follow, and you're smart enough to do so after you've calmed your erratic heart rate.
"Did you find anything?" The brunette inquires after she's done bypassing your home security and then reviewing footage of the night the house was ransacked.
"Documents of past clients are stored away, along with a few other things." She nods to the stack on the table she's just set and Heejin doesn't bother looking while nodding her head, brows pinching together as she rewinds at a certain timestamp.
"Safe to say that it wasn't Jungeun or Jinsol that popped up here." She proclaims while turning her laptop. "Daewoo's team was caught with another group of unwelcome guests." You and Sooyoung immediately see more people bursting into the home, bullets flying in different directions, each sound making you flinch and clench your fists.
This explains the blood scattered around, you think. But it still doesn't help relieve anything, only worsening your anxiety with the knowledge of people knowing who you are and tracking you down just to get to your parents. You could only imagine that you were lucky to be stuck with Sooyoung and Heejin and that they decided to be decent with keeping you alive.
For now.
Sooyoung watched the playback with a critical eye, brows furrowing in concentration whilst you looked around the trashed house. Remembering that you left your room open, your feet began to move on their own accord, until Heejin stopped you.
She cocked a brow, silently questioning what you were doing and you hesitantly looked back down the hall, turning your head enough to see the red dots on her clothes that you know weren't there before.
"That's-"
Before you can get the whole sentence out, the younger girl practically tackled you to the floor, yelling for Sooyoung to get down as she pulled out her gun. "I thought you said we were fine!" She yelled over the gunshots and Sooyoung grunted from her place somewhere you couldn't see. "We were! These guys probably came while we were looking!" She replied before retaliating with her own gunshots.
Heejin then turned to you with a frown as you curled up beside her, covering your head and trembling like a leaf. Had she not gotten to you in time, you would probably have a bullet or two lodged into you.
"Listen, you need to do what I tell you when I tell you. If I tell you to hide, you hide. If I tell you to run, you run, got it?" She asked before swiftly firing a few rounds and then coming back to your side, waiting for your response.
When you don't verbally give her an answer, she only scowls more before grabbing your arm with her free hand. "Y/n, you want to stay alive, don't you?" You didn't need to answer that one, but she was relieved to see that it got through to you enough to break through your fear for a while. "Do as I say and you get to live."
They needed you alive, so whether you agreed to her or not, she would make sure that you would survive.
You only manage to nod once before yelping as the vase overhead explodes and Heejin grits her teeth before she looks around, checking for any exits while mentally counting.
"As soon as I start shooting, move behind the counter. It's closer to the window and Yves unnie isn't that far away, so she can cover you if needed." She instructs and you hold your breath when she pulls out a revolver, checking the bullets before she nodded.
You notice that she's started to count down, and by the time she reaches one, her eyes meet yours for a brief second just as the onslaught of bullets starts to cease.
"Go!"
Without hesitation, you dive for the counter whilst Heejin rose to her feet, unloading her own bullets onto your new visitors while making her way over, guarding you as she shot each person with deadly accuracy.
Quick movement to her left automatically draws her attention and her left hand shifts to shoot at the person who had attempted to approach her from the corner while Sooyoung began to shoot from behind her, taking care of the ones the younger girl couldn't handle before she grabbed you by the arm.
"Time to go." She grunts, momentarily holstering her gun as she swipes a knife from the holder and lodging it directly into a man's throat without hesitation. She doesn't even let you process when she starts ushering you out of the window, gun back in hand.
You hastily, yet clumsily, wriggle out through the window, heart racing as the gunshots continue to ring out. But before Sooyoung could join you, a body collided with yours and forced you to the ground. Given the situation you were in, it didn't take long for your instincts to kick in and you begin to push away your assailant the best you can.
"Get off!" You cry out as the person grabs your arm, but you're quick to retaliate, moving your leg a little before thrusting it against the person's side. With a grunt, their hold on you weakens and you're able to free yourself, scrambling away whilst Sooyoung immediately grabs them by the back of their shirt and shoves them to the ground.
"Fancy seeing you here." Sooyoung huffs, smirking down at the dark haired woman glaring back at her. "Quit fucking around." Jinsol snaps while you try to catch your breath, blood rushing in your ears and heart thrumming against your ribs.
"Last I remember, mind games were your thing." Sooyoung taunts, grinning wider when she sees the way Jinsol's jaw clenches. "Didn't work this time, right? Have you lost your touch?" She continues but Jinsol doesn't retort the way she wants her to. "Scared to ruin your reputation? Can't keep a pretty little thing under your watch?"
The menacing smirk that replaces her anger earns itself a scowl before Sooyoung places herself between you and your former friend, gun in hand.
"The only reputation that's going to be ruined is yours, Jeong." Soon enough, Sooyoung was grabbing your arm and pulling you to your feet while Jinsol withdrew her own gun and aimed it at the brunette. "You either hand her over… or I take her from you." She threatens and by now you knew damn well that it was a promise that she was more than willing to fulfill.
"Over my dead body?" Sooyoung teases, mimicking the noirette's smirk. "It would be a sight to see."
With a quick tilt of her gun, Sooyoung takes a shot at Jinsol's leg while the latter aims for her chest. Though due to her movements, it goes off track and grazes her shoulder instead. You flinch at the sound of the gunshots, but your whole body tenses when you hear sirens going off not too far away.
"It looks like that won't be today." Sooyoung huffs as she shoves you backward without tearing her gaze away. "But it was nice seeing you again. Catch up soon!"
You don't even know when Heejin managed to get to her car, but somehow she's already there in time for Sooyoung to push you inside while taking another shot at Jinsol for good measures, one the woman is quick to dodge. "Better luck next time!"
As she hops into the car, you can see a familiar motorcycle arriving not too far away. But before you could even confirm what was happening, Heejin had stepped on the gas and drove away from the vicinity as far as possible.
"So, anything new?" Heejin inquires when she smoothly blends with the upcoming traffic and Sooyoung dusts herself off. "There's evidence that they haven't done anything up until they disappeared. The last job was almost two years ago but details aren't clear due to the papers being ruined."
"Details like?" Sooyoung purses her lips before, brows pinched together. "Codes. There are dates that have been smudged and contacts were erased." She explains while you look at the back of the pair's heads, silently listening to their conversation before hesitantly speaking up.
"Can I… check those files?" Heejin glances at you from the rearview mirror while Sooyoung doesn't even bother looking. "I doubt it's something you'll understand." She states simply, but Heejin shrugs in response. "There's not to lose by looking, unnie." She points out and Sooyoung pauses for a brief second before she's handing the documents over her shoulder, hanging it right in your face before you carefully take them into your possession.
A quick glance at the two is all you do before you're checking what your parents may have left behind.
Sooyoung was right about various smudges and scribbles, but you're familiar with a handful of these, given that your parents never really bothered hiding documents from you, only stating that it was all work.
Now you wonder if even that was true.
Because as soon as you flip through some of the pages, you can't help furrowing your brows, face scrunching up in thought. "East wing of… the Garden of Eden. Fourth batch handled by… William Crest."
"No wonder you're in journalism. You have a really creative mind." Sooyoung jests, but you frown in response. "I'm not making it up." You tell them and Heejin quietly observes you the best she can while driving. "I remember reading this."
"That file doesn't have a William Crest or Garden of Eden written on it." The older woman states, finally looking back at you with a deadpan stare. "So if you don't have anything solid to actually say, I'd recommend you shut it." There's a warning laced in her tone and you had to bite your tongue because you don't think you're ready to piss her off when she doesn't want to believe you.
So you don't say anything until you get to the house, just quietly reading through the tampered documents and making mental notes on the parts that you do remember.
And as you lay in bed that night, exhausted from the day's events, Heejin comes striding in with a questioning look on her face, tablet in hand.
"How do you know about William Crest?" She suddenly demands and your head snaps to the sound of her voice, staring at you with a hardened look on her face. "I thought you didn't beli-"
"That was Yves unnie. I'm asking you how you know him?" She stresses each word out and you sit up, alarmed by her disposition. "I told you… I read that file before." You mumble and Heejin stares long and hard before she's shutting the door behind her and walking up to you, flipping the tablet so the screen is facing you, showing you an image of a man dressed in a blue suit, messy auburn hair and dark brown eyes staring back at you. There's a barely noticeable cut on his jaw, barely seen unless you're actually looking.
You stare at the picture for a few minutes and Heejin finally speaks. "He was my mark two years ago before I found out he was selling my weapons behind my back." She practically growls out. "Given that you've only just found out about all of this, I find it hard to believe that you have any sort of connection with him."
Lifting your head, you become brave enough to meet her gaze. "Because I read the file." You repeat as her expression only grows more curious. "When?"
"... two years ago." Her brows shoot up, but she doesn't speak so you can continue. "I… My dad had me sort some of his papers before. He said it was for work and he had an important call, so he asked me to fix it for him." Your eyes turn back to the screen. "I didn't read the whole thing, so I only know his name and the place they were meeting at."
Your brows pinch together as you stare at his face before Heejin speaks up. "Come with me."
