but seriously why do they keep giving us boring-ass noble human backgrounds when we could have like
a human from a tiny community on the edge of the western approach that scrapes out a living from the dying mines and the drying up trade routes. you grow up used to defending yourself against dangerous beasts and dangerous people.
or a human of unknown lineage who grew up on the streets and docks of Llomeryn, who knows how to fight because Llomeryn runs as red as it does gold. and there’s no secret kings or lovelorn nobles in your blood - just generations of sailors and raiders and poorer-than-dirt thieves.
or even a human from any of thedas’ innumerable small backwoods villages, born to woodcutters or charcoal burners or miners or farmers or blacksmiths. you learn to hunt and fight because you need to - thedas is a dangerous place, especially away from the safety of high walls.
but noooo
better have yet another damned noble human. i stfg.

I am forever salty that Fenris, Anders, and Merrill never got to reach common ground and become friends in-game. Not just because they’re all good people who have had tough lives and deserve to have supportive friends. The three of them together could have revolutionized healthcare in Thedas.
Anders and Fenris working together and using their abilities in tandem could have started performing surgeries. Providing organ transplants. Curing cancer. While Anders and Merrill could be working on providing blood transfusions, dialysis, treatments for various diseases in the blood, and even coming up with a practical application of Merrill’s cure for the taint that they could use on people.
But Bioware was too committed to the petty rivalry thing and never letting their characters learn to accept one another, so we never got a badass medical revolution led by three marginalized people.

Spirit healers focus on restoration, not destruction. They know that the best way to win a battle is to keep themselves and their allies in the fight as long as possible. They are the mages most likely to be accepted—or at least tolerated—by common people, and yet templars fear them as much or more than the damage-focused specializations. No other mages so directly draw their power from the beneficial spirits of the Fade. It’s a risk, but the rewards are undeniable. Removing injuries, granting resilience to wounds, even rescuing comrades from the brink of death—these are not support abilities, they are the core of any effective party. Any fool can cause harm, but no amount of muscle can make a weapon heal.

Why didn’t any of them listen to me? All this time, I thought I could help them. Save them.

I don’t know if I’ll ever actually finish this, but I wanted to do something for Dalish Week, and I was feeling autumn-y, so…. Yeah!

Oh to be stuck duty bound to the Grey Wardens when they were the ones who forcefully took you away from your clan and then you're stuck with the grief and anger of not only losing your clan but also the Wardens who were supposed to be heroes and save the day but they all died and now you're left to pick up the pieces yourself because the only other Warden doesn't want to take the lead because he's selfish but you repress it and it only shows back up again and again hurting you in the process
