Look, should you beat up the least shadiest drug dealer in Hawkins? No. Do people do it anyways? Unfortunately.
This is what Hopper happens upon driving home from the station. This is also how Eddie finds himself sitting in the passenger seat of the Chief of Police’s truck with a probable broken nose and three undoubtedly bent joints in his pocket, saying, “Well, you know, can’t really afford the hospital so.”
Then Eddie finds himself in the passenger seat of the Chief of Police’s truck driving pass the hospital thinking, wow. Jumped by jocks and murdered by the police all in one day.
He mourns all the times he could have been more annoying, and follows Hopper out of the truck to a little cabin sat back from the road. Hopper tells him to watch for the bear trap and Eddie thinks, what the fuck. He’s about to voice that when he sees it.
Sees him. Sees, “Harrington?”
Steve is tucked into the corner of the couch, messy haired and clearly wearing Hopper’s clothes. He looks beat half to hell with his face bruised and the row a stitches disappearing into his hairline.
Actually, “What happened to you? You look like dog shit.”
“Dog shit,” repeats from behind him and Eddie turns to see a girl with curly hair standing in the doorway of a bedroom.
“Hopper doesn’t like when you teacher her things like that,” Steve says, moves his feet off the cushions so she can sit on the couch with him. “Also, I was kidnapped.”
“You weren’t kidnapped,” Hopper grumbles, having disappeared into the kitchen and returning with a first aid kit. “I don’t like you enough to kidnap you.”
“So, i can leave?”
“You got a parent at home to make sure your brain doesn’t melt out your ears?”
Steve huffs and Eddie is being lead to sit down on the coffee table. Hopper hands him a dishrag and then before Eddie can properly take it, grabs his nose and yanks it back in place. “Ow! Fuck!”
“F-“
“Oh, don’t say that one,” Steve says, shaking his head at El. “Wait until you hear it from Henderson.”

Adding a bit more to this post and this add-on:
“What the fuck?”
“I know,” Gareth says, stopping short right next to Eddie in the middle of the cafeteria. They both stare at their table where Steve Harrington is standing. “I’m still getting use to it.”
“What do you mean ‘use to it?’ Gar, what-“ Eddie trails off when Gareth keeps moving. His hasn’t got his voice back in full yet from being sick and Gareth is right. You can’t stand still for too long in the cafeteria without getting your lunch knocked out of your hands.
Eddie narrows his eyes at King Steve’s hunched shoulders and his crossed arms. The way he’s hovering over Jeff…menacingly.
Yeah, no.
No one messes with Eddie’s sheep.
it’s a dick move and Eddie knows it when he throws his weight into an arm around Steve’s shoulders. He’s seen the way the jock has been carrying himself. His ribs are broken. Steve squeaks and Eddie smiles with all sharp corners, “What do we got here, my liege?”
“Huh?”
“The high life too boring for you that you got to…” Eddie trails off, ignoring the gesture that Jeff makes telling him to stand on Steve’s other side because - “That’s a character sheet. That’s a character sheet for D&D.”
Sitting next to Jeff with Steve crossed out for the character’s name is a D&D character sheet which is - “What the fuck?”
Steve’s demeanor completely changes in a moment of realization, shoulders going loose and smile bright enough to weaken Eddie’s knees. He’s like, “Heyyy, you’re like, king of the nerds, right? That’s perfect. Sit with us.”
Steve shakes off his arm and sits in Eddie’s chair, offering him a seat at his usual table. All Eddie can say is, “What the fuck?”

Continuing a bit from this
Because that was a fluke, right?
Steve Harrington sat at their lunch table, asked a bunch of questions, and took notes as some sort of prank, right? It’s never going to happen again. Right?
But he’s there again today (“Fucking hell”) sitting at their table, waving them over when he spots them like, “I was thinking about that depression filter you told me about. Makes no sense.”
“It’s, uh…” Jeff tries, accepting Steve’s offered applesauce. “It’s a perception filter.”
“Ohhh, that makes more sense.”
Steve opens his notebook, marks something out, and writes over it. He looks up like, “About this guy Griffon.”
And that’s how it goes. Steve asks questions. They provide answers. They realize that Steve must have some hearing loss in his left ear and adjust to that. Steve cracks a joke they don’t understand and adjusts to them, and it’s…fun.
Gareth accidentally elbows Steve in the ribs and Steve winces hard because his ribs are still fucked up from the fight. They all think this is over now and things will go back to normal but Steve…apologizes?? For being weird??? To weirdos?
“Oh, god,” Jeff says after lunch, watching Steve and Grant walk off in the same direction. “We have to keep him.”
Gareth sighs, “Eddie is going to hate this.”

I’ve seen fics where Eddie sees Steve post-season 2, all sad and pathetic after his fall down the social ladder, and then Hellfire adopted him. They’re perfect. No notes. Ten of out ten. I will read every single one of them.
However.
It is very funny if Steve adopts the Hellfire Club as his new friend group. They have no choice in the matter.
The only good thing going on in his life right now is that Dustin has decided that he’s cool. Steve doesn’t want that to change so he’s going to have to learn a few things because he never knows what the hell Dustin is talking about.
So, “You guys know nerd shit, right?”
Hellfire blink at him.
“You do. Good,” Steve continues, pointing out the Starfleet ensigna on Grant’s jacket. He sits in Eddie’s seat like, “Have you heard of this board game called Demons and Dragons?”
They blink at him again and share looks with each other that say that this is a hell of a day for Eddie to be absent. Jeff is the only one brave enough to say, “It’s uh…it’s Dungeons and Dragons.”
“Oh,” Steve says, flipping his notebook open and writing that down. “Sweet. What else?”
Eddie comes back to school two days later still a little stuffy from his cold to find Steve “The Hair” Harrington in his seat, talking to his friends, making plans to watch Star Wars that weekend.
He’s just like, what the fuck.

Another thing I really liked about TBOSBAS is it shows how short history can be. Like in the original trilogy, we know that the games have been happening for 74 years, but by going back to the 10th games, and getting flashbacks from the war, we see that it really has only been a few generations. And (some of) those people are still around in THG. Mags won the 11th games, literally months after TBOSBAS. obviously Snow is still around, and Tigris, but there’s countless others too that turn the whole “this is how things are and always have been” ideology on its head. The inception of the games is actual living memory for people when Katniss volunteered at the reaping.
It’s the difference between looking at black and white photographs of Ruby Bridges attending school in a history book and seeing an interview of her now at 69 years old.
History does not exist separate from the present, and we’re not as far from it as we think.

The survivors of District 12 singing and dancing at Finnick and Annie's wedding hits so different after reading/watching tbosas. Can you imagine Snow's reaction to that propo? No matter how hard he tried to erase Lucy Gray and to obliterate District 12, she lived on in her music, music which is kept alive by the people of the place she once called home.

It really bothers me when I see MRAs harping on family court favoring women after divorce. Mothers getting custody of their children is actually a rather new concept and for much of history children were seen as the property of their father and fathers were usually granted custody automatically. This precedent existed into the 1970s. And still the court is biased in favor of men, men win 93% of custody cases they participate in, women are twice as likely to lose custody if they report abuse perpetrated by the father. Courts are still biased towards fathers and it is detrimental, the reason you see more custodial mothers is because men willingly give up custody. If they fought, chances are they’d win, even if it was against the child’s best interest.

Do women drunk on the trad wife fantasy know that women have been working in factories since the 1800s?
Like, why do you always assume you’re going to be middle to upper class living in the suburbs being a full time homemaker?
You’re more likely to be living in a multigenerational household while also doing some work on the side while raising your kids. Your money will go straight to your husband and he gets to decide what happens to it.

I think the most radical thing the hunger games does is tell young people that the most revolutionary thing you can do is have unconditional love for humanity. Katniss throughout the entire series is guided by a deep sense of compassion for the people around her. It is what causes her to volunteer, to bury rue, to mercy kill cato, its why she tries to save peeta, why finnick telling her to remember who the real enemy is works, and even though her compassion for the larger world falters when peeta is kidnapped, it comes back when she visits hospitals and asks for mercy for other victors and ultimately, it is love and belief in a better humanity that makes her kill coin. Through it all, she maintains an unfaltering belief in the fundemental goodness of humanity, which is diametrically opposed to dr gaul's and snow's worldview. Peeta is even more unwaveringly compassionate
So the series tells young people that the most revolutionary thing you can be is compassionate. Let compassion drive your politics. Let yourself believe in the fundemental goodness of people. And i think that's deeply important in a world that touts the superiority of pure reason or logic, to allow yourself to be guided by something as emotional as compassion. Katniss everdeen tells us that your politics should be rooted in compassion in a world that thinks detatchment or cynicism is intelligence and i think thats v cool

Sorry but the Haymitch's dynamic with his final two tributes. will never not fuck me up.
Katniss: He hates hates hates her for being the same as him. He can communicate with her because she is the same as him. He's her mentor, of course he cares about her. He should be a father figure to her but he's too stunted by his own trauma so they exist like teenage allies in the never-ending arena which is a victor's life. He wants to keep her safe but she must also be a pawn in the rebellion. She makes him make promises he cannot keep. She is all that he could have been and he is all that she might be.
Peeta: The sacrificial lamb. The one Haymitch knows he can't keep. The boy who is better than the rest but must be condemned to die time and time again. Who demands that Haymitch saves Katniss, as Katniss demands that he saves Peeta, but Haymitch could not save Maysilee, or his family, or his girl. Everyone Haymitch has ever lost compressed into a single body and placed beside Katniss, so he is forced to look at her as his mirror.
