Dear One Direction Fandom,

my name is anna and I am 16 years old. I’m from Germany and you saved my life. All of you. All of the directioners I ever interacted with, all of you whose posts I retweeted, whose posts I faved or commented. Thank you so much. 

I think being in a fandom is impossible to understand, unless you’re in one yourself. The beauty of this whole thing is that you just slowly slide into it, just dip your toe in and all of a sudden you can’t escape. That sounds quite brutal, but it’s the most beautiful thing ever. 

I stumbled across “Larry” a couple years ago, in 2014, and that, my people, had been the end of my social life. I discovered One Direction, I stayed up late watching music videos, interviews, fan videos, I spend hours crying over fan fiction, did (really bad) fan arts and enjoyed every single minute of it. 

Because of five foolish boys I got to interact with the nicest people, I laughed so hard, I cried, oh boy I FELT SO MUCH!

The thing that makes me the happiest about being a directioner is that I’ve been welcome in this fandom from the start. Almost everyone is so, so nice, we just share the same interests, we’re involve with the same boys, we (kinda) ship the same things, we have so many inside jokes, we’re just all in this together. This makes me so freaking happy. The one direction fandom is so incredibly huge, but we all get along, because what matters is that we all love and appreciate this band. 

I’m in maaaaany fandoms, but the One Direction fandom is by far my favourite. Being a directioner makes me feel comfortable, dries my tears, picks me back up, makes me feel less lonely. 

I am so, so grateful for being a part of this big, amazing family! 

Being a fangirl may have ruined my school and social life but I feel like it’s worth it. It’s so much fun. And pain. And stress. Mostly pain and stress actually. Being a fangirl is really stressful. 

I remember back when I was 14/15 I used to be really embarrassed when someone asked me wether I liked 1D, sometimes I even was like “what no, what are you talking about haha” and then I would go home and dance to up all night. I even didn’t want to give my phone to my friends, because I was ashamed of all the 1D music and photos I had on there!

HOW STUPID!!!!!

I can’t believe I ever behaved like that, like, whyyyyy was I ashamed of the things I loved? Stupid! Really stupid! But, well we all grow and learn, I guess. 

Thats actually not the point tho. 

The point is I love this fandom and everything about it. We are so strong! Even tho they went on hiatus 1 1/2 years ago WE’RE STILL ALL HERE. How awesome. And you bet my ass I’ll still be here in when they come back.
