“Quzi.” Melody repeated. She was going to have to look up the dish she was really going to have to try diving into Jasmine’s culture. Melody wanted to know everything and anything.
“Honestly it’s going to sound really plain but a nothing can beat a really good mac and cheese. I lived off the stuff in university and now if I can make it fancy I love to do it.”
Jasmine smiled. “I don’t think it’s plain at all. A good mac and cheese is amazing!” She enjoyed it a great deal. And she wasn’t all that picky about mac and cheese either. She’d eat the processed kraft mac and cheese just as much as she would the fancier types of mac and cheese.
“And luckily it is something I know how to make. If you said something like turkey or something I’d be a bit more at a loss.” She’d never really made a big bird or anything. Back home the animals had been handled humanely, and the cooks had made it for her. Yes, she’d been a bit spoiled.
“If you could go anywhere in the world...where would you want to go?”

TW: Major Character Death, murder, violence
Jasmine Al-Saleh was born in New York City in 1900, the third generation of a family that had first moved to the United States in order to find better prospects than they were getting at home. Her family was conservative, and though Jasmine’s mother was forced to work to sustain their household, her father was the one who ran their household with a bit of an iron fist. She was sent off to Ilvermorny like every other witch her age, but her life was already planned out before she could get to studying. Before she was even 13 years old, her father had already arranged for someone to be her future husband.
She grated at the prospect, grated against a life in which she would be forced to endure a man she did not love and would not love. She tried to run away, several times, only to be found and brought back and punished for her insolence. She attempted to stay at Ilvermorny during the summers they had off, but that was quickly refused. Jasmine started seeking solace in different places, and she ended up discovering that she was actually flawed according to what her parents would think. Jasmine was attracted to women!
Yet there was no way to put such a fact in front of her father. She would bring shame on the family, and ruin their plans for her. But she studied hard. She studied and she decided she was determined to get away from the city when she graduated, make a career with her interest in magical creatures. Who needed marriage when she could simply work with the animals that had never done her any wrong?
Her father set the date of the wedding just a day after she was to finish her education at Ilvermorny. And so, Jasmine got to planning. She had her lover help her organize an exit, and so she got herself dressed up but then she ran out of on her fiance, escaping with her girl and trying to give themselves a good hiding place. Neither Jasmine or her lover were any good at concealing charms however, and so her fiance was able to find them both. The man was so furious with them for having pulled such a stunt, that before they could even properly try to defend themselves, he cast the killing curse on them.
Jasmine came back to try to get some revenge on that man and ended up lingering as a ghost. Since she had had a job lined up at Ilvermorny at the time, she ended up taking on the place as the Wampus House Ghost, there to support the students from her former house when she could, and otherwise doing as she pleased.

It didn’t take but a second for Melody to melt into Jasmine’s side. What else did you do when someone set their arm behind your shoulders. It was dating 101 wasn’t it?
“I just want to get to know you better. With or without a tv show. Like I don’t even know what your favourite food is.”
Jasmine grinned from ear to ear, utterly pleased with her rather corny display of affection. She loved that she had this chance to be close to someone. Jasmine really liked Melody. And she wanted this to really go somewhere.
“Oh well I suppose that is very important. Hmm...” Jasmine tilted her head to consider it for a moment. “I do love Quzi...it’s a lamb dish with rice, raisins, almonds and various spices.” She hummed. “It’s delightful. What about you? If I wanted to treat you to your favorite...what would you want?”

“Ah, okay, that explains it then,” Cornelia replied with a nod. And didn’t prod further. No suspicions clearly on her part as her eyes darted once more to the cats. She couldn’t help but give her own cat a look, knowing he was needy, but damn. He really wanted Rajah’s attention apparently. “I’ve had him for almost two years now actually. Since he was a kitten. I’ve babied him ever since, I will admit. Probably why he can’t take no for an answer.”
And she wasn’t joking. Even with Rajah’s clear disinterest and even cat signals, Napoleon wasn’t interested in giving up. He only flipped onto his stomach and reached out, swatting playfully at the tail. Claws not out, of course.
“Sorry, Rajah,” She offered, though it was followed by a small laugh. “How long have you had him? He seems much more mature, to be honest. And well behaved.” At this, she gave her own a pointed look that went ignored.
“Aww. Well he’s a lucky cat then. It’s clear that you really love him.” Jasmine admired that about her. Honestly, anyone who took good care of their pets was automatically a bit more respectable to her. There was just a certain extra love that came when you owned one. Granted, Rajah was not her pet in that same sense. But she felt the same love when it came to her horses Osiris and Isis. She thought it just made for better people.
She could practically feel Rajah’s irritation, and for a moment she thought she could see a little whirl of sand, just under the table. But Rajah wouldn’t really go there. Not for something so simple. No matter how irritated he might get with the cat charade. Rajah swatted at Napoleon with one of his paws, ears flicking back as he’d learned was also a tell tale sign a cat was unhappy.
Jasmine sighed, leaning over to scratch the top of his head a little. It was both to sort of soothe him, and to remind him that they were out in public and he had to behave himself. “Oh. Well a good seven years at least. Feels like I’ve had him forever really.” She snorted, rubbing Rajah’s head lightly before she lifted up to focus on her companion. “But he’s only sometimes mature. Right now he seems a little...catty,” she remarked and then snorted. “Oh that was terrible, I’m sorry.”

Melody didn’t shy away from the other girl. She was more than willing to curl up into Jasmine’s side as they watched and talked. She just let out a sigh of laughter because who would ever expect this is where they would be.
“Sense8, Sense8, Sense8.” Melody repeated until she found the show and could put the first episode to play. “I don’t suppose you’re someone that needs silence when watching something. I tend to ramble.”
Jasmine shook her head, grinning and casually slinging her arm up over the back of the couch, and therefore also around Melody’s shoulders. She was nothing if not intent on making this as coupley as possible. And really? Well she liked the closeness of it.
“No, no it’s fine. Ramble away. I am here to spend time with you after all.” Jasmine had also already sort of seen Sense8 before. But she was always down for a rewatch as it was an incredible show. “This is all I could ever need.”

Walking backwards to the couch Melody fell into all the blankets curling up there and wanting for nothing else than what it was she had in the moment. “I haven’t watched or heard of the first two but I do know of Sense8.” Melody admitted with a little sheepish grin.
She had her niches and she stayed within them probably a little too much.
Jasmine grinned, moving to sit on the couch there, scooting so she could sit closer to her girlfriend. Nothing like sitting next to a girl she really liked to watch something cute or romantic. Jasmine absolutely loved it. This was exactly why she had come to Swynlake and avoided going home. Being able to like someone and date them like this. “Well then let’s do Sense8 or something. It’ll be fun.”

thornoftheveil:
Cornelia caught the slight pause. It was her job after all to pick up on strange things, despite her hating said job and also mostly being bad at it. But even to her it was odd. However, she didn’t question it, and just shook the other’s hand. “Fatima? That’s so pretty. If you don’t mind me asking, where are you from? I hear a bit of an unfamiliar accent.”
While the two women spoke, Napoleon rolled onto his side, raising his paws slightly as he did so. Still watching Rajah. Trying to get his attention, maybe even get him to play with him. He even purred a little to seem more inviting to the bigger cat.
Unlike Cornelia, Napoleon was really just a normal cat. Nothing magical about him. So he had no idea he was trying to get a powerful being to play with him. But if there was one thing he had in common with her, it was his stubbornness. And he was going to get a proper reaction out of Rajah before they left one way or another.
"Thank you. I’m glad you think so. I’m from Iraq,” she answered, feeling a little guilty about the deception. Particularly that she couldn’t just say that Agrabah was her home. It would bring more questions than she liked. And Jasmine wasn’t quite ready to explain Agrabah without being fully honest about herself.
Rajah was still ignoring Napoleon, and tapping his tail on the floor like a real cat might do to express his impatience and disinterest. Poor Napoleon. But the djinn was clearly not in the mood to be cooperative.
“How long have you had Napoleon? He seems quite sweet.”

Melody took a moment longer before pulling back just enough to let Jasmine in and close the door behind her. “That’s smart too, I didn’t even think about salt. There’s almost always sweets since Tina likes to bake.” Melody explained gesturing to the spread she had and the might as well be a blanket fort by her couch.
“Well what do you like to watch? I have been watching the new Veronica Mars or cooking shows. or…” Melody trailed off trying to bite her tongue before she continued to talk.
Jasmine couldn’t help but grin at the spread that Melody had put out there. “Oh wow. Well then I think we’re perfectly balanced here aren’t we?” It was nice to see they had both managed to plan for this in the best way. And as she looked a little closer she managed to spot the blanket fort. “Oh wow. I love the way you’ve set everything up!”
She moved to sit down before she glanced over at Melody. “Why don’t we watch something cute and romantic? Like I don’t know, ‘But I’m a Cheerleader,’ or ‘Desert Hearts’, or we could watch the show Sense 8 or something.”

Melody had a date planned with her girlfriend. A word the girl was not yet used to saying but she was happy to say. And because Melody wanted everything to be perfect she had cleaned her apartment from the entrance door to the window corner of her room. She had everything she could possibly need, including sparkling cider, tea, sweets and netflix set up on her tv. Blankets and pillows. Everything you could possibly need for a night in with a new girlfriend.
And until Jasmine came over Melody wandered around her apartment aimlessly back and forth unsure what to do with herself. But thankfully she didn’t have to wait too long when there was that knock on the door and Melody smiled brightly at Jasmine.
“Hi.” Melody murmured. “I have everything set up. There’s tea and cider and sweets. and blankets and pillows and oh you can come in.” Melody spoke stepping back to let her girlfriend in.
@not-your-prize-princess
Jasmine was still floating on air. This was it. This was what it was like when she really wanted to be with someone. She could just tell her dad all about a day like this and it would make it clear! Maybe. It should make it clear that she was just not someone destined to be with any man. It just wasn’t for her. And Melody was so much kinder than she could ever have imagined.
Especially after Jasmine had lied to her. She had lied but Melody had understood, she accepted it...and now they were dating. Incredible. It took her a while to settle on an outfit, but once she had she was grinning from ear to ear, darting on over to Melody’s place. The fact that they were in the same building made it all the more convenient.
“Oo...well I brought some crisps. In case we wanted a little bit of salt as well,” Jasmine offered, holding up the bag with a big smile as she made her way inside. She had really been looking forward to this. Spending time with Melody made her just feel...good. “So, what should we watch tonight?”

Moana: I've been trying to learn sometime the responsibilities placed on us by our parents needs to be adjusted for us. Not that I know how to do that but I'm trying to figure it out
Moana: There's definitely no reason any more to have to be with a man. Plus adoption too.
Jasmine: I'm working on adjusting parental expectations too xP not sure how well that's going to go.
Jasmine: Well I don't think in my position adoption would be allowed, but there are so many ways to avoid men with that.

I Kissed A Girl | Open
Moana: Very boringly heterosexual
Moana: But I get it, I don't think my dad's ever been fully comfortable with me talking about girls but I've never brought one home
Moana: It's good you met a girl like that then, caving would have been a shame.
Jasmine: yes well it's got this whole thing with it. Responsibilities and all.
Jasmine: Though in this day and age, if I wanted to continue my lineage or whatever I could just you know do that artificially. If I had to.
Jasmine: It would have been. And I would have been miserable. Men are terrible.

thornoftheveil:
Cornelia smirked slightly as the two cats stared at one another. Well, Napoleon stared at Rajah while the other seemed to want nothing to do with this interaction. She’d never seen him so intrigued by another cat before. He even tilted his little head, as if he was thinking really hard about something.
She chuckled and gave his ear one more scratch before standing up straight once more. “I guess that explains Napoleon’s staring. He really only spends time with me…which also explains why he’s such a mama’s boy as well,” She shrugged. “But thanks. Rajah is adorable as well, even with the suspicious faces he’s making.”
Her attention was hard to draw away from the cats. Between Napoleon’s curiosity and Rajah showing disinterest, she couldn’t help but find it funny to observe. However, she did feel rude not having introduced herself yet.
“Sorry, I’m Cornelia by the way,” She finally said, motioning towards herself then extending that same hand out to the other. “And you are…?”
“Well Napoleon’s lovely. Much nicer than my little brat Rajah.” She nudged her ‘cat’ lightly, trying to get him to act a little more like an actual cat. But...well. The djinn wasn’t a cat and was going to make sure she knew it. Go figure. Jasmine would just pretend he was still a form of normal.
Jasmine smiled, glancing down at Rajah and Napoleon. “Well thank you. He’s trouble, but I’m glad you like him.” Rajah seemed to sort of preen a little bit at the praise, of course he did, but Jasmine elected to ignore that part of his behavior. The little shit.
“Oh. Cornelia, it’s lovely to meet you. I’m...” she paused, debating over which answer to give. She was tired of lying to everyone she met. But with the advisor in town too...”I’m Fatima.”
