Street Spot: Square Bird in Red
A regular feature here on Nostalgia Highway is the “Street Spot.” We love seeing vintage cars as daily drivers on the streets where they belong. When we see a vintage car worth sharing, we’ll post it as a Street Spot. Sometimes it will be a beauty, sometimes a beater, but then again, even the beater cars are beautiful to us!
My buddy Darr sent me this very cool Square Bird convertible he spotted the other day. I do so dig this generation of Thunderbirds, and this one gets your attention with its attention-grabbing red.

Sultans Car Show 2025
Early Sunday morning, I headed over to Marina Green Park for the Sultans Car Show. This time was going to be a little different from just covering a car show; I was going to be a vendor with my business, Whittier Speed Shop. It was a fantastic day talking about the business at the booth, walking around and seeing some very cool customs, hot rods and more. A great day with friends and much more. I’ve been to the Sultans Car Show in the past at the previous location, but not since it moved to Marina Green Park. Such a great location and, as always, a great event.

Street Spot: 1949 Kaiser in Horizon Blue

My buddy Darr sent me this cool ‘49 Kaiser he found in Huntington Beach. You don’t see many of these around, even in SoCal and its crazy car culture.

Mooneyes Open House 2025
Saturday, I made the 10-minute drive from my pad to check out this year’s Mooneyes Open House. It’s always a great time, and this year’s was the largest I’ve seen it in a long time. So many cool hot rods, customs, and more.

LA Roadster Show 2025
Not 1 day but 2 days of fun in the sun for the 59th Annual LA Roadster Show. A great time at this year’s show hangin’ with friends, checking out some very cool cars, and trying not to buy anything in the swapmeet.

Nosed & Decked - Chopped & Dropped 2025
Saturday, I headed over to Roxanne’s Bar in Long Beach for this year’s Chopped & Dropped show. It’s a blast every year and I may be a little biased as it’s put on by my friend Wade, owner of Nosed & Decked brand. So many cool customs and hot rods were there from as far as San Diego, Fresno & Ventura. There are vendors, bands, food, and a lot of fun. This year’s was by far the largest one I’ve seen, and I can’t wait for next year’s show.

Spotted this FINtastic Caddy rolling on whitewalls the other day. I sure do dig these land yachts.

Aces Hot Rod Resurrection 2025
So… It was a wet Saturday for this year’s Aces Hot Rod Resurrection car show. I knew when I left the house, there might be rain, and when I showed up, it was dark but still dry, but that only lasted a little bit. There were a few hot rods that braved the rain, but definitely not the normal turnout. It was still a great time hangin’ with the club and the others in attendance.

I do love a ‘60s Rivi. They just have great lines and classic details.

Suede Palace - GNRS25
One of my favorite buildings every year at the Grand National Roadster Show is the Suede Palace, which is always filled with so many cool traditional hot rods and customs. There are also some fantastic vendors and a whole lot of friends. It’s just a great time and place every year at the show.

Grand Cruise-In - GNRS25
The buildings may be filled with hot rod goodness at the Grand National Roadster Show, but that isn’t the only place you’ll see them. They are all around the buildings at the fairgrounds, especially on Saturday.

Checking out the Buildings - GNRS25
There is so much to see yearly at the Grand National Roadster Show, and you can easily miss things. I try to go a couple of days each year, and this year was no different. The 1st thing I always do is explore the buildings and all the hot rod goodness located inside.

Al Slonaker Memorial Award - GNRS25
Besides the AMBR competitors, the other big Grand National Roadster Show award is the Al Slonaker Memorial Award. This year’s winner is Bill Barbato and his 1933 Pontiac Sedan built by CAL Auto Creations.
My favorite of the Al Slonaker Memorial Award competitors was the “Ardun Killer” by Cody Walls. Such a fantastic hot rod.
The rest of the contestants.

America’s Most Beautiful Roadster - GNRS25
This year’s winner of the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster at the Grand National Roadster Show was Ross Myers’ 1936 Ford Roadster built by Rad Rides by Troy. An amazing build with no detail missed.
One of my favorite AMBR cars was the Tee Hee owned by my buddy Chuck from Cheater Slick Culture.
A few of the other competitors from this year’s show.

Holiday Motor Excursion
It’s rolling up on the end of the year and around this time of year is always the Holiday Motor Excursion put on by the Horseless Carriage Club of SoCal. It’s a very cool early morning event that starts at Arcadia County Park and then all the pre-1932 cars go on a run around town. I get there early to catch them as they gather before the run. It’s amazing cars from Stanley Steamers to Model As.

Eddie Cochran Memorial Car Show 2024
Sunday was all about a new show in Bell Gardens. The Eddie Cochran Memorial Car Show was a car show honoring musician Eddie Cochran who spent part of his young life in Bell Gardens, CA. For the 1st show there was a great turnout of hot rods, customs, lowriders and more. There were bands, vendors and it was just a whole lot of fun.
