Abortion: Why you aren’t “pro-life”
If you’re “pro-life” then I’m glad you found this. Let me start off by saying cut the appeal to emotion (especially that “you weren’t aborted so I win” argument). No name calling, logical fallacies, etc. If you give me that then I’ll give you a few things in the rest of this. I may come off as “mean”, but that’s not what I’m going for. I want you to learn because I care about who could be hurt. Interpreting what I say as “mean” is just showing your ignorance. You’d rather have a fight than save lives at that point, and I’m not interested in even trying to educate you.
Let’s start with the fetus. I’m actually going to call this clump of cells a person for a moment. It is also, a parasite. Now I know all you anti-science people are going to get offended, but in all regards scientific, it is a parasite. I don’t like the word either, but that’s what it is. Stealing nutrients and possibly killing its host. Mosquitoes are also parasites. Like sex, going outside puts you at risk of a parasite. Like protection, bug spray doesn’t always work. Like abstinence, telling people to not go outside doesn’t tend to work. Teaching people to use bug spray if they happen to go outside tends to be most effective. If a mosquito still lands on your arm then are you going to nurture it or squash it? (inb4 strawman that I think mosquitoes are people)
Next, I’m going to pretend that women aren’t raped or anything. Sure, it may not be why most people go in, but it still happens. There are still many other reasons why a person would terminate her pregnancy, such as an ectopic pregnancy. Women don’t deserve to die just because of bad luck. I’d happily discuss a middle ground where there’d be cases that one is ok and one isn’t, but if it’s going to be black and white then I’m going to stick with the side that actually saves lives.
Maybe we should also pretend that people won’t get abortions if they became illegal, and that the number of babies born will be greater than the number of deaths from forced delivery. We still need to consider how the mother is supposed to take care of this child. A baby costs $12k in just its first year alone. What do you suppose will happen to those children who’s mother’s can’t afford that?
Now let’s pretend that no complications can occur during pregnancy and that all the host remains as she was before pregnancy. Let’s also pretend that a woman can just walk into an adoption center, drop off the baby, and they cover her medical bills just to be nice. That way we wouldn’t have to worry about dumpster babies or babies that die of malnutrition as suggested in the last paragraph. Adoptions are declining though, and adding more children just means more and more children not getting adopted. Therefore, this would make the lack of adoption an even bigger problem.
Finally, let’s pretend people will adopt all these kids and remain financially able to support them and raise them well. Finally, in a world with all this imagination, we have our happy ending. I’ve finally given you enough where there’d be a sound case against abortion. However, do you live in this fantasy or do you live in reality?
