I wana write up an actual post about it sourcing the text and ive received asks abt dirk and roxy before too (i have alot of analysis asks to catch up on when i have the time) but. something i cant stop thinking about is just. how sorely dissapointed and frankly disgusted i am with how people speak about dirk's sa/sexual harassment narrative?

People kept accusing me of "shitting on ship dynamics" or other bullshit when i dont care about crackshipping i know its been around for eons but whats been getting me is that people who i wouldve considered sound about these subjects just bending the knee at dirk and roxy and how theyve weaseled their ways around speaking about dirks Textual Story about being a child who was never taught to establish boundaries, sexual repression, queer guilt, being harassed and then getting assaulted, and then continuing to repress all of it because it was done to him by a close friend.

What i care about is how people speak about stories of s/a and sexual harassment because these situations happen in real life? being a victim of child grooming and having had a lack of boundaries that resulted in me getting taken advantage of its like. the things people say about these fictional situations and what their gut reactions to depictions of these things says something. and its been disturbing me bc ofc proshippers know what theyre doing is nasty but ?? everyone acting like choosing to shit all over and all the way downplay this story isnt weird or misogynistic or victim blaming has had me kind of astounded

Dirks story is one i hold very close to me because yknow? how often do you get a story about a queer character not establishing boundaries and winding up getting taken advantage of for it, and having that not played for laughs or used as a punishment for their queerness (see hays code/cca effects on stories)

I appreciate its nuance of displaying how someone you can deeply trust, share an experience together like no other person EVER could, but even they can take advantage of you and hurt you. And they arent immediately a villain for that, and your love for them isnt misplaced, and it especially being one between a woman and a queer man. This is such a rare kind of story and the fact roxy isnt demonised within the comic for it and that she does in fact have nuanced reasoning for her mindset that is equally tragic, but does not excuse what she did.

It shows how cocsa gets instigated by the ridiculous and putrid standards that get placed upon children but especially around sexuality, marriage, reproduction and everything relating to the construct of gender and the american dream. i feel that is incredibly clear cut with the constant reiteration by roxy about how her "crush" on him is always always ALWAYS brought back to reproduction and marriage and the idea of the "nuclear family unit" Homestuck is rife with commentary on capitalism and imperialism? and theyre intentionally paralleled to janejake like literally every single step of the way. what trickster roxy says to dirk and what crockertier jane says to jake.

Ive been really appalled seeing people casually saying straight up victim blaming shit about dirk or infantalising and downplaying roxys actions and proceeding to make things about dirk "needing to be fixed" and depicted him as some crazy bigot who just needs to find the right queer to whip him into shape?? AM I FUCKING CRAZY? IF PEOPLE DID THIS WITH JANE AND JAKE THERE WOULD BE HEADS ON SPIKES.. "Dirk wouldnt care when he gets older, It didnt affect dirk, Roxy would apologise, Its not that serious who cares" Pretty ironic people obsess over the trickster scene when dirk says IN THAT VERY SCENE that he is NOT a robot, and that he has feelings and he wishes those would stop getting ignored.

Roxy herself says she believes what she did probably messed dirk up in the head. and he admits that it just constantly made him guilty and furthered his self hatred. but also in how he speaks about it he neglects to mention how this guilt but also constant invasion of his boundaries definitely damaged his relationship to his own sexuality and made him think himself an evil for not being straight

Genuinely convinced people who claim to like post canon didnt even fucking read the damn epilogues because with transmasc roxy and WHY ult dirk reacts how he did to roxy coming out, is that to dirk. Roxy being a woman and his gayness being at odds with her "feelings" for him was what he always blamed his discomfort with being open with roxy on.

He shifted the blame off of roxy and her sexual harassment onto himself, HE has to make himself the one in the wrong every time because god forbid the people in his life actually be able to do wrong! be able to have made bad decisions! somehow everything needs to be his fault to him.

So when roxy comes out as a man Dirk loses that ability to shift the blame onto himself, its not about their genders anymore now dirk would HAVE to face the fact that roxy traumatized him and that it damaged his relationship not just to roxy but to his on sense of self, but he doesnt want to do that. Ult Dirk is the hyper masculine villain filling in Lord English's place right? A Stone Cold Hard Man? Men like Dirk dont get victimized! The only kind who get victimized are men like Jake. Weak willed, effeminate, sheep. Unlike dirk who is an ALPHA MALE. (the caliborn coming out rn but he IS the voice of all of homestucks commentary on toxic masculinity)

People pretending that dirks transphobia was just. unbridled bigotry for no reason seem to be a little stupid in not remembering that all expressions of bigotry do come from an insecurity, DIRKS insecurity is that he does not want to admit he was sexually taken advantage of as a child. Because that would make him just like Jake, and thus not a real man. He takes this out on jake and jane too!!! If you read anything he feeds into their thoughts about needing to be "the right kind of man for Jane" "The right kind of feminine leader" and how he tells jake THIS?

Do people think he just said this for no reason? I think actually hes got such intricate thoughts about what would be "the right kind of relationship" because he was beat over the head with it constantly as a child and its what the giant collapse of their friendgroup happened over. Do you think that your friends telling you that being heterosexually married and producing babies being the key to happiness wouldnt get to you when youre literally by your own existence functionally useless to that whole idea? Systems the alpha kids desperately tried to honour, built by a society that wouldve despised them for who they were. Ofc Ult Dirk feels the need to try and "make right" what he could never fulfill through jane and jake.

It makes me sad that roxys entire deal about BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX she placed herself in and realizing Hey. Actually. The american dream is a sham and it wouldnt lead to my happiness? Im my own person and i dont need to be this vision of "just your bffsie girl friend" ive tried to bill myself as my entire life, i dont have to play mediator to my friends, i dont have to keep running away from what i dont understand. Ive wrong my friends and i want to make it up to them, I can BE MORE. I can CHOOSE my own fate, choose my own path, SEX and BABIES are not the key to true self fulfillment.

It is actively walking back roxys liberation from the fake ideal of the american dream that LEAD TO HER ASSAULTING DIRK IN THE FIRST PLACE to pretend that her "feelings" did not objectify his body and cause her to brush past his boundaries and personhood in favour of a dream. Go look at what roxy and jane say about dirk and jake? Especially what roxy says about jake. they dont particularly speak on them with much humanizing language. Its alot of objectification and treating their personalities as Second Features to the main attraction being their bodies aka their ability to reproduce. This is highly intentional stuff because homestuck constantly makes commentary on what is means to "succeed under patriarchy" and flips traditional narratives roles on their heads weve talked about this one million times before

But all this to say. The alpha kids text comes with such heavy and loaded topics like rape, sexual assault, harassment, objectification, abuse, reproduction, bodily autonomy and ALL OF THESE are tied to the "american dream" and the regime of heterosexuality. they were always there in canon and persist through to post canon where it weaves even more in depth trauma responses, repressions of self, queer guilt, and victim blaming, all through the lenses of the victims AND perpetrators, so you wind up with unreliable narration all across the board. Dirk and jakes victimization and jane and roxys cognitive dissonance to that is core to its commentary on these things omg candy janejake illustrates jakes self victim blaming nature enough, how do people think that dirk doesnt exhibit the exact same trait when he literally does it to your face in the quest bed convo to jane.

The ways people speak about these subjects and what they choose to brush past, remove, or downplay says alot. and its just been making me feel even more unwelcome in this space than usual bc Oh well its being delivered in a package of art and queerness so it Must be fine! Its just fun and games! It doesnt matter what people say about fictional sa stories guys! 💀 im just. eugh. afraid? to share the stories ive been crafting including these subjects when people are so brazen to this kind of behavior ☹️

so i have literally never heard of hal x brobot but i am soooo here for it

got any headcanons?

YES. oh my god, I'll share maybe like two or three short ones.

I really like the headcanon that Lil Brobot carries Lil Hal around on his shoulder, kinda like a parrot hehe.

I also have another headcanon that Lil Hal has tried to get into Brobots system multiple times to be able to use Brobots body to explore, (succeeded multiple times.) And has also gotten caught which caused dirk to put a security system which prevents Lil Hal from being able to get in. (He still finds a way in either way..

Also, during these times that Brobot has carried Lil Hal on his shoulder, he's dropped Hal SO MANY times. Which causes a LOT of repairs Dirk has to do. Later on, eventually giving in and building Lil Hal a body so he doesn't have to anymore. And then after Lil Hal dos get his body, he almost destroys Brobot a couple of times with the stupid shit he does and wants to try out with his new form. (Dirk immensely regrets)

There's more, and there's also a dynamic for them I have, even reasonings as to WHY I ship them, but I'm a bit tired to type for now but those are some.
