Almost no career path is inherently designed to “help humanity” when it exists in a capitalist vacuum. People in medicine, economics, engineering, teaching, etc always face a harsh reality when they graduate from school: the system isn’t organized to help anyone, as they expected. Medicine is developed (under competition without collaboration) for a certain class, economics is nothing more than bourgeoisie economics, engineering further enhances the first world with speed and leaves the developing world in the dust, teaching is reduced to standardized tests which are intended to filter out a certain kind of student and transform them into a person who can contribute to the greater function of capitalism. It’s more or less up to you to develop your career, whatever it is (almost), into one where you can make the difference you intend to make. There will be no “good” footsteps to follow within your career choices.
