I think a lot more people would realize they're trans if we shifted the focus away from proving to transphobes that it's not a choice and thus is Real™ and instead spent more time talking about how like........... You don't need dysphoria to be trans. This is a fact and a statement you hear a lot if you're friends with the right people. But the thing you might forget is that,, what that Means is that you can literally just go "hm. I want to be [insert gender here]" and then you Can Be if you like it more than what you were before

I've seen some transfems saying "wanting to be a girl is a symptom of being a girl" which is a way more succinct way of saying what I'm getting at here? Thank you transfems <3 it applies to any other gender too though

Anyway. Basically. Being trans isn't a choice in that we can't Just Be Cis Instead but also when you're first working out your gender the first step can be going "wait, I can just do that?" For a lot of people and that's Okay. That's literally fine

The 2021 Gender Census is now open!

The eighth annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 10th March 2021.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
