who has the Best succession chart
edith: edwin thinks it’s him but it’s actually me, closely followed by one a friend of mine has, and then maybe our fathers? although that’s not a chart per se, it’s more of a mental list he talks about a lot.
edwin: edith’s bullshitting. it’s me, obviously.
morcar: i uh, i would love to answer the question but um. well. neither of them will let me see theirs? apparently i’d ‘ruin it’ (edith’s words)

do you ALL have succession charts?
morcar: i don’t. i didn’t know the others did?
edwin: it’s because you don’t pay attention. anyway, mine’s the best.

edith you are literally so smart. what would your brothers do without you
probably still succeed :) they’re young noblemen; they’d be fine. people would still appoint them to positions. they’d last a whole lot less time though, that’s for certain. (edwin’s succession chart is mostly about war, so that might give insight into how he’d perish without me)

who's your current favorite succession canidate, edith?
do you think i’m just going to semi-publicly align myself with a singular contender? what do you take me for?
i will say that i think harald hardrada has the best chance of controlling the danelaw but probably won’t be liked in the south; harold godwinson has the favour of almost everyone in the witan but is, i think, too stubborn to listen to advice that goes against his wishes; william of normandy is an excellent fighter but i’d rather have a danish king than a norman one. edward and edgar have an advantage through their blood connection to edward, but edgar is a child and i think people from hungary of all places don’t fare well with regard to understanding english politics

edith, you have a succession chart?
yeah! it’s very detailed. the succession is important to me, i’ll be honest, because i think it’s generally good policy to stay on the potential successor’s good side. which applies to politics in general, i suppose.
with that said, i think i have to gently remind morcar that william of normandy is on there.

yeah his nephew's name is also edward which is so eternally confusing. anyway's edward (the king) is bringing edward (his nephew) and his family over to succeed him after he dies.
morcar: right. okay. cool. gotcha. noted.
edith: that’s... well. alright, then, it seems like i’ll have to update my succession chart that i have for planning reasons. i’m sure that this will work out well for edward (the king) and have no potential downsides. be right back.

have y'all heard edward's bringing his nephew over from hungary?
morcar: this is going to sound really stupid. edward has a nephew?

morcar opinions on william of normandy
he’s really scary!!! i can legitimately say i’m more scared of the norman army than the danes purely because i think danes can have fun? whereas with normans... i’m really not sure. i think they just exist for battles and also william seems mean

your brother won’t talk about his feelings :(
edith: believe me, i know. i’m past trying at this point. i know something is wrong, but that’s about it.

MORCAR HEY how do you feel about revolts in general
morcar: THEY ARE SO COOL AND FUN i think if whoever’s in charge isn’t working for you (the people who they’re meant to be ruling to benefit) then they don’t deserve to be in charge anymore!!!! :D

sorry to have kept you waiting…

so THAT’S why you know greek! i knew it was weird!
so you age? does that mean one day you’ll die, or will you just keep ageing?
i’m surprised siward hasn’t been told, like i was. he would be an ideal person to tell if someone wanted, like, political leverage, because nobody would believe him. uh, i mean, i guess? that sounds harsh, but i wouldn’t put it past...people.
edward? he knew? how?
sorry to have kept you waiting…
uh, lucy told me you wanted to talk about…
the uh. whole.
…

i’m mostly just curious?
sorry to have kept you waiting…

that's kind of mean? is he not smart?
edith: look, i get he’s not here to defend himself, but also even if he was here he would agree? he’s got good intuition but he’s impulsive and he can’t make connections all that easily. like, for real, he wouldn’t call himself smart. don’t worry too hard about it
