heres a little suselle fic idea i had. its a bookstore au that takes place in highschool (susie and noelle are both ~16)
susie HATES studying. she just doesnt get it. susie has never been that good at school, but junior year hit her HARD. he wont admit it, but hes failing his classes and has no motivation to go to school anymore. kris' concern for her is the only reason she still tries. UNTIL she meets the new part-time librarian. shes a quiet, awkward girl who susie's seen around campus. if her memory served her right, she was noelle holiday, a close friend of kris. theyd never talked beforehand, but susie heard a good bit about her through them. she was shy around strangers, but carefree around her friends, and a bit of a bookworm. susie had always thought she was pretty, but never had the chance to tell her. now, sadly, wasnt a good time to flirt, either. she had an essay due in a week and hadnt even started writing. but maybe noelle could help her? maybe, if she was lucky, she'd be able to get a date out of this study session
heres a little suselle fic idea i had. its a bookstore au that takes place in highschool (susie and noelle are both ~16)
susie is a highschool student and part-time librarian. the job bores him out of his mind, but it pays well enough, so he puts up with it. noelle is a nerdy student with dreams of becoming a writer. she moved into town just a couple months ago, and finds inspiration in every day of her new life. from school, to the walk home, to the handsome librarian who happens to go to her school, everything is absolutely begging to be put into her the coming-of-age novel shes been working on. but theres something thats bothering her. the librarian (somehow)... doesnt like books??? noelle had no idea someone could be so averse to all the great stories that awakened her imagination. from that moment, it became her mission to teach susie about all the wonders of books (and maybe fall in love along the way)
the difference between the player and kris is so interesting in deltarune. kris is practically not in control of any of their actions. the only times they act are times like when punk saves susie and ralsei from king. we know kris has opinions, but most times, theyre physically incapable (or maybe unwilling?) to express them
The Chariot is the executor of higher power and the source of its Will. Crowned in the image of their unique Light, they actualize the intent of the Centurion, and are propelled forward by Purpose.
While the Centurion understands itself to be the commander of its forces, it is only through the Will of the Chariot that its intentions see effect, and it is only the Chariot’s Light that allows it to persist through through difficult battles. The Centurion without its Chariot lacks any form of mobility or expression; the Chariot without the Centurion lacks only direction. The Chariot clutches at the seat of the Centurion, a reminder that its power comes only at their discretion.
Before the Chariot stand two Purposes, both offering to pull the Chariot forward. On their right, Obligation proffers his hand. On their left, Autonomy presents hers. With one hand of the Chariot ever bound in vigilance, only the other remains open to reach for Purpose. The Centurion guides this hand in deliberation between them.
The Chariot is wreathed in boughs of apple — the temptations driving Will, and the fruit of its execution. Apples of varying colors ripen on grafted stems, as The Chariot bears the bounty of many trees.
(note: the use of Ralsei’s and Susie’s hands here is symbolic, and not meant to imply a reduction of their actual characters to those symbols. I wanted to convey the idea that Kris’s motivators aren’t abstract — they’re pulled to action by their friends. They’ll both probably get their own cards… eventually…)
Before Chapter 1, Kris didn’t have a reputation for being courageous.
They’re known for being a “wimp”, a “weenie”, and someone who runs away.
But by the end of Chapter 1, their will changes.
A lot of emphasis is put on “courage” for Kris in this battle - even the color of the move “Courage” matches the one for “Bravery” in Undertale.
(for Dual Heal and Red Buster, they glow white - the orange is only used for Courage)
Ralsei even says that it’ll be their “courage” that saves the world.
And after the fight with King, Kris gains a point in “Guts”.
Kris is the only person in the party to ever gain a point in Guts, so it’s likely due to a change in their state of mind, rather than for sealing the fountain like for other stats.
In Chapter 1, the game over music is called “Darkness Falls”.
In Chapter 2, the game over music is now called “Faint Courage”, and unlike in Chapter 1…
…Kris will hear the voices of their friends encouraging them to go on.
Something changed during the King fight that made Kris more courageous, even if it’s “faint” courage…and I think it was this moment.
Kris, without us telling them to, took action on their own to save Susie. I don’t think they even expected themself to be able to do that.
I think “Courage” for Kris means making their own decisions.
And to some extent, it may be about gaining the courage to live, too.
