The only writer I will ever trust to portray Bruce Banner / Hulk correctly is Greg Pak. Now and Forever.

heroes always do the right thing. so i’ve learned that as long
as i do something, justice will ultimately prevail. it’s a test of faith…
a trial of strength…i just have to hold on tight and wait for the dust
to settle. maybe hulk is right…that these are the days when heroism
fails. And everything I stand for comes crashing down.

fiightsback:
❝ Aw, I love playing the Igor to your Young Frankenstein. ❞ Jess appeared genuinely enthusiastic, as always, while bothering her tone-deaf nerd. Bruce didn’t talk a whole lot, and when he did it was all dark humor and walls, but she’d come to find his way of engaging her endearing. ❝ Gentle reminder though: it’s MY turn to unleash our hell beast; probation for all those Great Old One references be damned, ❞ As if to emphasize her point, she nudges him gently with her elbow. ❝ —- for dreams are older than brooding Tyre, or the contemplative Sphinx, orgarden-girdled Babylon. Innit, Brain. ❞
A big ol’ smile lights up her face as she looks from him to his work, giving it a soft nod. Clearly she had the mental capacity to understand everything he’d plastered up on that screen. Clearly. ❝ When are you going to stretch your legs? There’s something I have to show you. ❞
Jessica’s ability to seamlessly combine aging pop culture references with timeless Lovecraftian sentiment was both impressive and surprising, enough so that Bruce’s eyes lifted to hers, for once not hidden behind the armor of his spectacles. He huffed a smile (for surely it could not be considered a laugh, not from Banner) and tipped his chin in outward appreciation. “-- Of course, Pinky. We owe it to ourselves to seek the unexpected, the.. what is it... ‘thing that is hidden and the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial mutability.’ Yes?”
So few understood the morbid, self deprecating humor that Bruce favored (particularly when it related to The Hulk), that Drew’s casual attitude was refreshing. It put Banner at ease, swept away the hypothetical eggshells that everyone always seemed to be walking on in his presence, and for once, Bruce didn’t mind a jab to his darker side. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn, indeed.
“hm? Oh...” At Jessica’s question, the physicist turned his attention back to the digital whiteboard, overrun with calculations, and considered it for a moment. He breathed out, a conscious release of the tension that always lingered between himself and the science in the room. Slowly, Banner rose. “Yes, of course. A break would be nice. And certainly anything you have to show will be a source of intrigue...” He shot Jess another smirk, one hand smoothing his tangled hair. “---I appreciated the comparison to Gene Wilder, by the way..”
