the best album of all time 9/9
After talking about all this music its only fair that i share my fav album of all time. now when i was thinking of my fav album of all time it was hard to pick one. i was stuck between melodrama by lorde and ctrl by sza. i choose ctrl by sza due to the concept and sound.
ctrl by Sza is a hardcore r&b album that has cemeted it's sound and placement in the r&b genre being well known for contributing highly for bringing r&b back into the mainstream. this album received one grammy and has went on to become one of the most critcally aclaimed albums of all time. enough about the awards and stats lets talk about album and songs. The album starts off with the song supermodel (my fav song on the album) in this song she talks about her insecurity's in her relationship and also how she wants to be enough for her partner. this song is genuinly so raw and honest and i genuinly enjoy the writing on this track. skipping forward a few tracks we have another one called drew berrymore (no not the actor). this song similar to supermodel is also talking about wanting to be enough for her lover but also wanting to be enough for herself. throughout the album we hear these little interludes in both supermodel, drew berrymore and other songs, these interludes are from her grandmother giving her thoughts on the album and the story behind the song. often we can hear her grandmother giving her advice to be herself and to not care what anyone has to say. this adds a very sweet and warm energy to the album that makes you appreciate it even more. one quote from her grandma i really enjoy is "if i lost control or did not have control, things would just be fatal". this quote is the first thing you hear when you start the album introducing you to the concept of ctrl. many other tracks on this album talk about her insecurites and love loss and the mental struggle she has been going through. Sza has talked about being scared to release music because she is used to writing music for other artist rather then making and writing it for herself. she had famously written one of rihannas most popular songs concideration. The concept of the album is about loosing mental and physical control of yourself and finding you way back to being "normal". her grandmas advice threw the album is very fitting allowing sza to find herself and also helping the listener grasp control. this album has a very good r&b sound to it but i fell in love with it for the concept of it. the thought of loosing control and hitting rock bottom but then gaining it back is just such a wonderful story to tell and sza does a great job of it.

Let's talk about tour and concerts 8/9
as we know concerts are very big thing in the music industry as it gives fans a chance to see and even meet there fav artists in person. over the last couple years to no surprise ticket prices have had a major increase in prices. this is due to the high demand of tickets but also resellers and tickmater with hidden fees and charges. i would like to dive into the how and why tickets are so had to get and expensive. then i would like to talk about my past concerts. when most singers go on tour they try to go to the biggest venues so there fans will have a bigger chance to see them and also so they can maximize profits. ticketmaster has made exclusive deals with almost all the major venues around the world and also all major record labels to only allow artist to sell there tickets threw them. now ticket master does a good job of the way they sell there tickets allowing fans to get pre sale codes and also having a online queue so fans know how many people are in front of them. ticket master also allows fans to find tickets fast and easy creating a convince for them also of just having to select the amount of tickets they want and where. this makes ticket master sound great and truly there website is. But when it comes to prices, fee's and resellers it begins to become a little annoying. ticket master shows you the prices of the tickets before the fee's and tax's are added to them. one fee would be fine but there is always 2 fee's if not 3. the fee's include a processing fee (they claim its for the technology used to process payment. confusing because amazon and target dont do that when you place a order online. ticket master has made almost the same amount of money as them this year. this fee is around $15 per ticket) a service fee (a fee for servicing the tickets, normally around $5 per ticket) there is also a venue fee on most venues (prices depend on venue normally above $10 per ticket, the worst part is that ticket master added that fee and the venues dont get all the money from it). when your buying multiple tickets this really adds onto the final prices even after tax. with tickets being in very high demand people will buy them and resell them for much higher prices then the original value to get fans to buy them that really want to see there fav artist. ticket master also offers ticket protection incase of a cancelled concert, bad weather or health emergency (this should be included concidering how expensive the tickets already are) they also offer parking passes for the concert for around $30 but the issue with this is parking at the concert is always almost less then this. ive paid $12 at one and $5 at another, not even close to $30.
this issue has been notice by artist and they have been trying to make a change. jack antonoff and his band have been covering fee's for there fans and also decreasing there prices majorly so fans can afford the fee's and concert. for my next (final post) we are going to go through my 2 fav album of all time and explain why they are perfect in my eyes.

let's talk about the most recent new music friday. 7/9
as previously mentioned new music friday is usally when artists will drop there new music to garner the most amount of streams and sales possible. the past friday March 15th we had some very good releases. We had Kacey Musgraves release her new album titled Deeper well. this album tells a interesting story about love, lust and lost all in one relationship. at the start of the album she talks about how she was used in her relationship and how her partner had left a very bad imprint on her mentally. she goes on to talk about how she could sense the dark energy around him and that she found ways to cope aka her "deeper well" the album ends with her talking about how she found love and joy in her friends, family and hobby like painting and doing other art activites. the friday before this one we had another album by another huge artist drop. this album was Eternal Sunshine by arianna grande. this album was a small concept album about the movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. now concept albums are usally about a story or a mood creating a setting and a certain mindset while listening to it. Currently eternal sunshine is sitting at my album of the year. the album was a small tribute to arianna grandes ex boyfriend Mac MIller. his favorite movie was eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. during this album you can hear the 2 sharing jokes and laughing with each other. going threw the track the album start with her not caring what anyone has to say and that she is looking for a lover. shortly down a few track she talks about her past love and how it has not always worked out leaving her in a very toxic relationship. This album was very wonderful and i would 100% give it a listen.
later in march beyonce is releasing her highly looked forward to album titled "cowboy carter" this is act 2 of her 3 act project. act 1 was titled renaissance and was a pop-electric dance album that had the number one hit break my soul on it. her new album cowboy carter is a country themed album, this album currently has 2 singles released off of it one titled texas hold em that peaked at 1 on the charts and the other 16 carriges. this album is expected to be one of the most acclaimed albums of year after her 2022 album and tour. in the next post we will talk about the tour and why its so hard for fans to get tickets to any concerts.

let's talk album roll outs. 6/9
Welcome back!! now before we start talking about album roll outs i should proably explain what those are. album roll outs are the things that come before the album. the promotion that is done for it, the lead and promotional singles, merch, live performances on tv and also trends or really anything to get people talking about this new music. now most artist tend to drop there first single off there album, this is called there "lead single". the lead single is usally heavily premoted for this album rollout since its setting the image and the vibe for the album. often lead single do very good on the charts. mostly from built up happiness that the artist is back. after the lead single starts to die out, artists often will announce the album and drop there next single. this single is called the "promotional single". this single often does not do great on that chart but it rather expands the idea and vibe of the album and is usally released to continue the hype around the album before it drops. this allows the artist to keep fans tuned in for the new era and album that follows it. the artist will run ads and drop merch including preorders for the album at this time. finally after these singles have been dropped and we get closer to the album release date, the artist and there team tend to look at all the songs on the album and choose one to be the final single off the album. this song usally gets a music video and also the highest spots on playlists and premotional videos and ads.
this album rollout has lead many artist to there first number one album and single, lead to this becoming one of the most used album rollouts. sure there are many other ways to do a album rollout and be successful. look at beyonce, she randomly dropped her self titled album "beyonce" with 0 pre promotion before the album. fans just notice that it was released one day, this lead to her breaking all osrts of records for not only the album but also the songs. to finish out the era artists usally will go on tours. after another post about new music friday, we will talk about tour.

let's talk radio play 5/9
The final component of the billboard hot 100 chart is radio play. we have previously talked about the other two components that go into how songs chart on the billboard hot 100 (streaming and physical copies). Now let's talk about radio play and why its important. Radio play is extremly important when it comes to charting a song on the billboard on the hot 100. now lets set this straight, its not as important as physical sales and streaming number's but the radio play has the chance to make a song continue to be stable on the chart and keep it alive on it wothout falling off the chart. most labels will reach out to radio stations and ask them to play there artists new song and albums to reach more people but also to add it to there rotation. when a song is played on the radio, the radio station count all there listeners for that songs and reports them as streams to the billboard hot 100. now if your song is a pop song with little to no cuss words and also a very catchy hook or verse you have a high chance of more radio play on the main stations that are being played in grocery stores and just major establishments in general. radio play is huge for artist and will keep songs charting for weeks that arent even garnering enough streams or sales to chart. now with this in mind more artist like rappers will tend to make songs with catchy verses or "pop verses" so the radio will play them more. if they did not do this and only played pop songs, it would be hard for rap songs to compete with each other on the chart.
now that i have explained radio play and why its important, you should now have a better understanding of the 3 major componets of the billboard hot 100. we have talked about radio play, streams and sales and then also physical sales. in my next blog post we are going to talk about the most common way artist will do there album roll outs and how they secure a high charting album and single. After that we will talk about concerts and touring.

Let's talk physical music 4/9
as previously discussed, the billboard, hot 100 is a huge staple in the music industry. we have talked about how streaming affects the billboard hot 100. Now it's time we talk about how physical copies are used in the music industry. Artist typically will do CDs and vinyls for their albums, both of which can consist of different colors or different album art to try and sell more copies. This allows for the artist to Garner more sales for an exclusive, color or cover of the album. This can make retail stores and or music stores sell their own exclusive version of the album that can end up reselling later in time for a higher price than what it was originally sold for. This allows for a "target exclusive" pressing of the vinyl and or CD super exclusive for fans and also super expensive when they sell out and you have to buy them from resellers. Artist will typically make an album and wait until vinyls are done being made to release the album. The vinyl industry has increased sales drastically over the last couple years making vinyl sales more important than ever. In 2020 there was a vinyl pressing plant's issue that made it so artist had to wait over six months to have their vinyl pressed for their albums. This made artist pushback their release date up to six months so they would have a vinyl to also release alongside of their album to Garner more sales for there album. this upset fans and artist a lot due to the long wait times and the extended pre-order dates of the physical media they have ordered. Now this issue was not the same for CD's because they are a lot easier to make and distribute rather than vinyl records.
A lot of people ask why spend money on physical media when you can just listen to it on Spotify, YouTube or Apple Music for free. Personally, I do understand that physical media is expensive with vinyl records ranging from $20-$40 and cd's ranging from $5-$15, making vinyl record's less appealing due to the price point. Personally, I have collected over 180 records, using my own money and going to numerous independent record stores and other music selling businesses. I do understand that it is pricey, but personally for me and many others collecting physical media opens your eyes to a new experience of listening to that music and that is much more enjoyable than just playing it on your phone. Most vinyl records come with some sort of insert or poster or just really more information on how the album was made and Created, which can also change your whole perspective on an album. I enjoy listening to my albums on viral more than I enjoy listening to it on Spotify. It has a more warm feeling to it.

Let's talk billboard hot 100 3/9
as previously mentioned in my last post, the billboard hot 100 is a very important topic in the music industry. Most artist cater their music to trying to hit the top spot on the chart, so they are recognized as useful to their labels to continue getting revenue from them, but also to try and show the world that their music is important. Now, as previously mentioned, most artist released music on Fridays to garden the most amount of time their song or album can be tracked for sales. This allows them the most time to promote and sell their music to hit the number one spot on the chart. It has became a competition over the last two decades to see if you can get the most number one records, albums or songs. the most recent chart came out this Monday as they come out every Monday and Beyoncé broke the record for being the first African-American to have a country Song go number one on the chart. this was a huge deal in the music industry with beyonce even getting the shout out from Dolly Parton for breaking this incredible record. Now that I've explained what new music friday is and also the billboard hot 100 charts, I feel like I have explained the two most important things in the music industry. understanding both of these will help you understand a lot of the topic around music nowadays but also the things I will be talking about in these blogs down the line.
Currently the Beatles hold the record for the most number one songs and albums on the billboard, hot 100 chart followed very closely by Jay Z. Taylor Swift is the female with the most number one albums and Madonna is the female with the most number one songs on the chart, beyonce follows very closely behind them in both categories. Now, a number one song and album are very hard to get, they consist of radio play, physical sales and streams. So you could believe that artist will try to make their song the most available to be played on the radio and also widely produced in physical media so that it can be purchased at any store that sells music. Another way artists premote their music is the new music Friday playlist on Spotify and on Apple Music but also their top hit playlist and charts playlists that introduce listeners to what is new and popular.

Lets talk new music friday 2/9
welcome back!! today we are going to talk about the music phenomenon known as "new music friday". to explain new music friday we need to go back to how it became a staple in the music world. So to start us off there is a very important chart system called the "billboard" charts, they track sales, streams and radio play of all songs and albums being released. so you could imagine to music artists that being on the top of this chart is very important because it earns you braging rights and also career acheivements. Now a artist named Beyonce started the trend of dropping new music on friday's so she had the longest amount of time to track sales for her new releases. Now to beyonce this was just her dropping music on friday's for her fans to enjoy. but all of a sudden this became a trend for the whole music industry. this became such a big thing that all sorts of artist started releasing music on friday's. from taylor swift to faye webster, everyone started releasing music on friday. This became so huge that spotify and apple music made playlists dedicated to updating at midnight on thursday for the new releases. these playlists are called "new music friday". these playlist showcase the biggest and newest releases that are releasing for that week. The playlists have became the most listen to and saved playlists on both of the huge media streaming services.
Now i promise i was not just rambling on about these silly playlists, but for a big music listener like me new music friday is important. its important because our favorite singers release new albums and songs. this leaves most of us to stay up tell midnight excited to hear what our favorite artiest has to share next. Now this past music friday there was new releases from Kacey Musgraves and many more singers. Now my personal favorites from this past weekend was kacey musgraves new song "deeper well" also allowing her to announce her new upcoming album releasing in march of this year. i hope this blog somewhat has encoraged you to maybe check out these playlists or even stay up one night to listen to these new releases.

Lets talk grammy's. 1/9
this is my first post on tumblr and primarily i would like to talk about recent life events and exciting things going on in my life. This past weekend the grammy's happend, im a huge fan of music so i watched the award show like i do every year. this year they had exciting performances from Sza, Olivia Rodrigo and 21 savage. I personally tune in just for the awards but the performances can also be a delight to watch. this year Sza was nominated for 9 awards making her the most nominated artist this year, now personally her last album she released titled SOS was amazing in my opinion. so i was cheering for her to take home the big awards. she was nominated in 3 of the 4 big categories (album of the year, record of the year and song of the year). she lost all her nominations in the big categories but did win r&b album of the year and best r&b song. so i did enjoy her getting her flowers for her hard work trying to bring r&b back to the mainstream of music.
Taylor Swift won album of the year, personally i was not thrilled with this choice. it did not feel like her album was "album of the year" in my opinion and there was many more better options in that category. there was fantastic albums like Did you know there is a tunnel under ocean blvd? by Lana Del Rey or even guts by Olivia Rodirgo. so personally i was not thrilled with that award choice but music taste is subjective. However i was thrilled with them choosing Flowers by Miley Cyrus as song of the year. i personally felt like no matter where you would go this past year you would hear this song. Now me, i was rooting for Sza to win for her song Kill BIll because i think that song was also incredible, but in conclusion i was still happy with there pick for song of the year. My final take on the grammy's would be what Jay-z had to say about them in his speech, to sum it up he basically said that there is no need to win in the major categories when Beyonce has won the most grammy's ever (36) without winning album of the year once. this shows even the smaller awards matter as much as the big award and even no awards at all matter, Because at the end of the day everyone is putting effort into creating art to share with the world.
