TW: Mental Health and Suicide

I can't tell you enough how much I despise Valentine's Day. Like what even is the point of it? If you really love your partner, you don't need to wait for one certain day of the year to spoil them. Honestly, I think its a waste of time and space, not to mention that its a ridiculously stupid holiday. Its sickening to look at all the bright pinks, reds and whites screaming in your face as giant hearts and confetti. Like every time you walk into a store, you're blasted with so much lovey-dovey shit that you just wanna throw up.

Tell that I'm wrong. Tell me that I'm just sour because I don't have someone to call my "Valentine," or some shit. Tell me that I'm being a degenerate and I'm missing the whole point of the day. Tell me I'm hating in it because I'm a lonely person. Tell me to shut up and keep my opinions to myself.

Tell me, because you guys can suck my dick for all I give a fuck. Don't care and really, I don't think I'll ever care.

The reason I hate it so much is because my "Valentine" is dead. Yes, I did have one, because back then I didn't know that I hated that holiday. He was my best friend, and we had known each other since we were basically born. We did absolutely everything together and I thought nothing could break us apart.

Obviously I was being a stupid naïve kid and couldn't be any more wrong.

Its been two years since he died, and everyday I hate myself because he's gone. In my delusional head, I always tell myself that I could have saved him. I tell myself that if only I had not been so caught up in my school life and actually took a pause to hang out with him, I would have known he was suicidal. I tell myself that if only I had gone to his house a few hours earlier, I could have stopping him from slitting his own throat.

Guilt eats away at my soul every single fucking day.

My best friend in the whole entire world killed himself and he had the audacity to call me minutes before he did to tell me how much he wished he could have been a better friend.

To this day, I still can't cope with the fact that he's gone. There are so many things I wish I could do, but here I am stuck in repeated reality.

This is why I hate Valentine's Day so much.

You don't need a certain day to tell someone that you love them. You can tell them everyday or each time you see them. I say this because I missed the chance to do that with my best friend, and now I sit here in my own regret and shame as I type this out. All I say to you is don't make the same stupid mistake I did. Go to your friends or partner and let them know how much you appreciate their company. Send then a text, or write them a note. It doesn't have to be something extravagant. As long as they know that you love them, that's all that really matters. You won't realize how far something so simple can go. 💜
