people always try to play the "but you're a lesbian" card whenever i say odd shit about men and i think that's because people are too cowardly to accept the truth: these are pure, objective observations. i don't have a leg in this race. when i say Gene Wilder has a kind of evil warlock's raw sexual charisma in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory you can't write me off as being too horny. because i'm literally not. i'm making a statement of fact here. and you'll just have to cope with it.

average in-law relationship (they fundamentally understand one another and have developed a mutual respect against all odds and maybe even love each other but will take that fact to their grave even though their actions will inevitably reveal the fact over and over again)

I bet Silco could reach Vander inside Warwick. I bet Silco would trust to remember him ad not fight back.

In my restless dreams, Silco and Vander!Warwick got to meet
In this scenario Silco would have to survive being shot and would go into hiding aka go back to their little hideout. He did not see this one coming, though

Caitlyn Kiramman's Associations With Masculinity
An aspect of Caitlyn's character that I think should be talked about more often is the way that she embodies a whole bunch of these very masculine-coded aesthetics and tropes and archetypes. Like, just off the top of my head, in no particular order:
•Only heir of a powerful and respected house/family. Caitlyn fits the connotations of "male heir" much more than those of "heiress", mainly because of the Kirammans being matriarchal and Caitlyn inheriting the role of "head of the household" from her mother. •(In a similar vein, she doesn't really strike me as a "pampered privileged princess" type of character but rather as a "proud entitled prince" one. Remember "Address me with respect or keep your mouth shut"?) •She's somewhat knight-coded. This is mainly based on her interactions with Grayson, who tells her that being an enforcer is about protecting people and being of service to the city. I think this is something Caitlyn takes to heart—even in her villain era this is part of what she's trying to do (though of course she's going about it in completely the wrong way). •That same scene with Grayson also links her to riflery and hunting—traditionally considered to be masculine activities. •The "Paint The Town Blue" music video montage at the beginning of 2×04 features shots of her brooding in her office(?) in a way that made me instantly think "Batman". Other potential associations I've seen include "dark mysterious leading man", "edgy anime protagonist", and "Byronic hero". •Right after that we see her and Maddie in bed together with Caitlyn playing the part of the overworked, emotionally distant husband. •(Also the cape she wears throughout this whole act very much makes her look like some sort of dark vampire prince of the night.) •In 2×06 she gets a training montage with Ambessa where she's taught "the truth of combat". Usually scenes like this are played out with male protagonists. •Caitlyn is also canonically a womanizer. We see her successfully charm three separate women over the course of the series (brothel girl, Vi, Maddie), and it's pretty much confirmed that she used to regularly sneak girls into her room. •Regarding character design…Caitlyn is tall and has very sharp and angular features that make her read as "handsome" and "dashing" to me. Her clothes, when she actually gets to pick them (so, not in S1), are not particularly "feminine". She wears minimal makeup and doesn't accessorize at all. "Princely" is the word I saw someone use for her once and it is now forever associated with her in my mind. You might notice that I used it a bunch of times here because it really does just fit her that well.
Beyond this, certain aspects of her romance with Vi, particularly in S2, also exemplify this kind of association with (traditional) masculinity:
•Vi serves as Caitlyn's moral compass and light in the darkness as she heads down the path of revenge, for example by providing her comfort, and preventing her from potentially killing a child. It's only after pushing her away that Caitlyn becomes the worst version of herself. And while Caitlyn was already headed towards betraying Ambessa, it's Vi's presence and plight that ultimately pushes her to take that leap. Vi is also a major reason behind why she decides to let go of her destructive desire for revenge. It's somewhat (just a bit) reminiscent of the trope of "man heads down the path of darkness/evil and is saved/redeemed by the love of the pure-of-heart heroine". •While Vi describes Caitlyn as "sweet", I don't think very many other characters would. Broadly speaking, Caitlyn is quite reserved, even cold, in most (but not all!) of her interactions with others. It's only really with Vi that Caitlyn shows her full capacity for gentleness and vulnerability. Again, this is reminiscent of the "he's only soft for me" trope that pops up so often in romance.
Now, I want to clarify that I am absolutely NOT trying to invalidate anybody's interpretations of Caitlyn re: identity and expression. I'm also not trying to say some BS like "Caitlyn is the man in the relationship" because that's extremely stupid. Rather, I wanted to discuss how Arcane plays around with these gendered associations and tropes and such, because it's legitimately very interesting to me and I think it provides a fuller understanding of Caitlyn's character. Anyways HUGE shoutout to @willatheewisp over on TikTok for opening my eyes to the wonderful world of Caitlyn genderisms. I know we all hate TikTok but this person legitimately does some great Arcane analysis that I think everyone should check out. And, uh, thanks for reading?

Vi as Death of Sappho

Here’s a little something I’ve been trying to finish the last few days. My recreation of the famous painting Death of Sappho by Miguel Carbonell featuring Vi standing on a cliff overlooking the polluted waters of Zaun.

Note
those ‘which is gayer’ posts but instead of pitting Caitlyn and Vi against noncanon men it’s a comparison between the sex scene and whatever the hell those idiots were doing with the plan that involved handcuffs and spitting
