Sometimes there is a funny sort of gift exchange that happens on stage between a performer and a listener.... something is stirred up inside both parties... conjured with a broad intention to feel alive and less alone in the universe.. and a sort of healing magic occurs. Words... Music... Story... Art.... these are powerful tools that have always transcended “entertainment” to me. I’m so grateful to give, receive and communicate in this way. I’m so sad this tour is over, even though it feels really good to be back in my own bed today. I need to say one last thank you to Mat for opening this door and for making the music he makes. I watched people who “don’t care about lyrics” marvel over lyrics, and I witnessed a lot of tears (including my own) drawn from the power of certain words sung to certain chords arranged just the right way. I am still learning my craft, and this tour was as much of a gift to me as it was a chance to share the creations and music I’m a part of with others. It was intense highs and lows, cycles of being drained and rejuvenated, clarity found through disorienting days, and knowing that I was exactly where I was supposed to be, despite also feeling lost in a time warp and a bit of a mind-fuck. I could not even imagine better comrades by my side. To everyone in Elvis Depressedly and The Cordial Sins, thanks for all your help and all your music and all your ears and all your understanding, and just simply for being so cool on the adventures of the last few weeks. Thanks to all the friends and family around the country that came to support a show that filled my heart up so much I can’t believe it didn’t just explode. Thanks to SP for the help from behind the curtains. And of course, a giant thanks to my dudes in Niights, Frankie & Jeremy ‘the Beast’ & Jake (& Alex from Punchdrunk who filled in some dates) for loving and believing in this band and in me... I know it’s a lot of work.. ...mentally ...and emotionally ....and physically. ... and thanks for doing it. Good things come to an end tonight in purgatory at the Masquerade. This has been a wild ride and we can’t thank Mr Mathew Lee Cothran enough for this opportunity to join alongside him in support of this tour. It’s an honor to open for such a gifted songwriter and artist’s advocate with a wicked sense of humor and compassion for humanity. Three weeks on the road can be difficult, and everyone has been so helpful and supportive of each other. It’s truly amazing that we get to say that at the end of this all.
