New custom! A project that’s been on my mind for a while now is to make dolls based on some of the Monster High Minis, and I finally decided to get started with this Power Ghouls Rochelle! She started out as a completely blank doll, so I had to try and mimic the MH faces as best as I could, which was super tricky but I think it turned out great in the end. I gave her yarn hair and a custom outfit, with painted pieces from Dracubecca and Courtly Jester. I think she’s just so cute, and I’m really glad I got to check this off my to-do list.

@look-back-month-challenge day 17: most interesting or unusual toy.
Today’s doll is a clown girl I made several years ago, but I don’t think I ever made a post about her. The reason I picked her for this prompt is the base I used; she was made from one of those wooden dolls you’re supposed to use for art reference. They make great bases for customizing in my opinion, and you can get them at the dollar store for pretty cheap. One of these days I’d love to make a friend for her.

@look-back-month-challenge day 16: do you have any customs made by someone else?
Okay, not sure if this counts, but unfortunately I don’t have any custom dolls made by anyone else so I’m kind of stretching the definition a bit. There’s a person that comes to a local craft fair every year and they bring all sorts of stuff, including little resin animals, and each one has their own colour scheme. I got this snail, he’s got a really pretty blue/teal shimmer to him, and he sits on a shelf just above my desk.

@look-back-month-challenge day 15: have you ever made a custom?
Yes, quite a few! The one I’m photographing today is the oldest full custom I have. Her name is Claire and she’s a ghost!! She’s a Create a Monster head on a Barbie body, and I made her in 2017 I think? She’s held up pretty well over the years, and I still think she’s super cute.

@look-back-month-challenge day 14: Valentine’s Day
Cupid is one of my favourite characters from both Monster and Ever After High. I only have the EAH version, sadly I missed out on MH Cupid and she’s way out of my budget secondhand. I got her in stores when she first came out, and I remember being so excited about her and thinking it was so cool that she went from one school to the other.

@look-back-month-challenge day 13: Show your favourite toy in your collection.
This was a really tough one, because I love all my dolls and figures so much, but in the end I’m going with David here. I am absolutely obsessed with An American Werewolf in London, it’s my favourite horror movie and I think the special effects are just incredible. It’s also kind of tough to find merch for this movie (at least compared to other horror movies I like) so that makes David even more special.

@look-back-month-challenge day 12: Which would your followers guess is your favourite?
If I was posting these day-by-day I would have made a poll, but I took a couple days off to re-organize my room and now I’m catching up. So I’m guessing on this one that you guys would pick Sunny. As of right now she’s the doll I think I’ve posted about the most, and she’s got the most stuff, so that’s my reasoning behind the guess.

@look-back-month-challenge day 11: what would your friends/family guess is your favourite in your collection?
While my sibling was picking their favourite I asked them this too, and they guessed G3 Venus, because I was talking about how much I liked her the other day. I do think she’s one of the best dolls from G3 so far; G1 Venus was always one of my favourites too but I just love the new version’s hair.

@look-back-month-challenge day 10: what is your sibling’s favourite out of your collection?
Another Wild Hearts Crew doll, this time it’s Cori Cruize! In all honesty, this is my sibling’s second favourite, as their first pick is G3 Catty Noir. But I’m trying to photograph someone new every day as a challenge, so I asked for their favourite non-Monster High doll.

@look-back-month-challenge day 9: a toy that was gifted to you
When the Wild Hearts Crew dolls first came out, I was instantly obsessed with them. Unfortunately they only ever released in the United States. But that year for Christmas, my parents surprised me with the whole set! To this day they’re some of my favourite dolls in my collection, and I’m so grateful to have them.

@look-back-month-challenge day 8: one that came to you at a special time in your life
I’ve tried to write a description for this like five times and hated it every time, so here goes. Three years ago, I had some serious health issues and needed surgery. It made me realize that life’s short and you’ve gotta do things that make you happy. I’d always wanted to buy a ball jointed doll, and these blind box gals were the perfect intro for me. They’re super cute and they make me happy every time I look at them, and they remind me of the year I gained a lot of confidence and started living the way I wanted to.

@look-back-month-challenge day 7: a toy you like but don’t want any more of that line/style
Capsule Chix are the cutest little things, I love their articulation and their outfits. However, they’re no longer sold in stores, and I try not to buy too many blind boxes anymore, so I think I’m happy with my current collection the way it is.

@look-back-month-challenge day 6: any you’re thinking of getting rid of?
I’ve been thinking about downsizing my Rainbow High collection for a little while now. I have almost every doll released, and while it’s cool to say I have a nearly complete collection, they take up a lot of space and there are a few dolls I think I could live without. If I do end up deciding to downsize, they’ll most likely go in the customizing pile, which I know isn’t really getting rid of them but I think it’s what I want to do.

@look-back-month-challenge day 5: any buying regrets?
Bought these two when they first showed up in stores. I don’t collect Barbies, and I never even saw the movie, so I have no idea why I bought them. I think it’s because they were just showing up and I thought it was cool that my local Walmart had them so early? I might get rid of them at some point, but I don’t know.

I will get back to drawing the Monster High characters at some point but right now I’m really into making bead lizards so that’s been eating all my free time

@look-back-month-challenge day 4: do you still have any toys from your childhood?
Yes, I do! Quite a few, actually, but the ones I wanted to talk about today are my Littlest Pet Shops. I had a lot more than this, but lost or sold them over time, and these are what’s left. I was particularly obsessed with the walking LPS, and would set up a whole town and just watch them walk around running errands and such. Out of the ones I kept, I’d say my favourites are the horse, the bat, and the whale.
