chefpacheco:
ā· closed starter for @nickidees
The last person Carmen expected to meet once she exited the Shooting Star Grille was her ex. Her shift had just ended, and she had agreed to after-work drinks with some co-workers. Frankly, running into Emery and Wyatt should have been preparation enough, however, she was not ready for this, no matter how many times she convinced herself otherwise. Nicki was gorgeous as ever, and apparently waiting on her; why else would they be standing out here at this hour? That confident stride she owned wavered once their eyes met. As the memories and emotions threatened to overwhelm, she cleared her throat and focused on something else. āUhā¦you guys go ahead.ā Turning away from Nicki, she addressed her work friends. āIāll catch up with you guys.āĀ
Carmen broke away from the pack and headed over to where they hovered. āNicole.ā Removing all forms of familiarity regarding the other was hard, but she had to in order to prevent herself from slipping into old habits.Ā āWhat are you doing here?āĀ
once upon a time, nicoledavis thought theyād marry carmen pacheco. all those cliches about what love felt like rang true. the songs made sense. seeing her was the best part of the day. when they pictured their future, carmen was the one next to her in their golden years. of course, their relationship was never perfect, fights led to break-ups which lasted longer and longer until the final one.
each time they came back together, couldnāt have been happier. deep down, nicki knew carmen was too good for them. she was so smart and driven. she knew what she wanted in life and went after it. nicki on the other handā¦ they had no idea what they wanted to do in live. they didnāt finish anything they began. nicki felt like they held carmen back. they tried to be the adult carmen wanted --- even if she swore she loved her for who she was --- and failed, as usual. when it came down to choosing between growing upand being with carmen and continuing to go nowhere... nicki knew she had to let carmen go. it was for the best.
hearing from wyatt and emery she worked at the grille had put nicki on edge. the last year was hard and there was no denying they missed her and with the holiday season, even more so. their schedule made it easy to avoid her but knowing she was right there, it was killing her inside. she needed to see carmen, needed to see for herself that she was there.
nicki didnāt get nervous often and as they stood outside of the grille, they regretted not smoking more beforehand to relax. they can feel their hands sweaty and heart stop the moment they see carmen,Ā more beautiful than ever. for a second nicki forgets to speak, the feeling of missing her was suddenly overwhelming. they clear their throat, ā carmen.. ā nicki reaches up, rubbing the back of their neck. ā i uh... i live here. at the motel.. ā they reply, motioning with their hand to the starlite. ā what.. what are you.. ā nicki stops, taking a breath. ā is it true? you work here? ā

@briadley
waking up before her alarm on top of sweat-soaked sheets wasnāt normal for nicki but as she opens her eyes in her darkened room, she can feel her sheets damp underneath of her. she kicks her sheets off of her and rubs the sleep out of her eyes. ā what the fuck? ā she murmurs, sleep still thick in her voice. a sigh escapes her as she gets out of bed to adjust the thermostat, she liked it when her room was cold so she could get cozy under her covers. her room felt nowhere near where it needed to be to achieve such a feeling. nickiās underwear-clad body makes itās way over to it but it seemed to be off. ā what the fuck? ā she mutters again, smacking it.
nicki groans going back to the bed. she attempts to call the front desk on the roomās landline but thereās no dial tone on the receiver. she stops herself from sounding like a broken record. she grabs a t-shirt and slips it on before grabbing her phone and bag where she kept her weed. nicki slips her feet into her fenty slides and leaves her room, eyes squinting at the sunlight. she could go down to the front office for answers but instead she leaves her room and goes down to room 213, banging on the door. ā if iām up, youāre getting up too! ā nicki yells from the other side of the door. sure it was the afternoon but just like nicki, bridget ran on her own schedule. ā iāll smoke all this without you! ā she smiles, knowing itāll get their attention.Ā ā itās satiiiiiivaaaaaa... ā

ollieprince:
Sweet release. Maybe not death, but a break was the second best thing. It was right before the big dinner rush, not that it wasnāt something the cooks could handle. He had streamlined the dinerās kitchen since stepping into the role. Recipes were easier and fresher. Any idiot in a white apron could push food. Either way, he had enough time for a cigarette or two and time to contemplate something. Exiting the Shooting Star without his apron, he placed a cigarette to his lips.Ā
Just as he was lighting it. he heard a voice. His head jerked in the direction of the sound and his face immediately dropped. It was the fucking Ronald McDonald in the flesh. For some reason, Nicki had taken some sort of liking to him. He had no idea why. He wasnāt overly friendly and scolded them every time he saw them. He crossed the parking lot, cigarette balancing in his lips. The mock Australian accent was enough to get his hackles up.Ā āThe fuck you want, McNugget?ā He eyed the contents on either side of them. His jaw tightened ā a lecture on the tip of his tongue.Ā āThat shitās gonna kill you quicker than all the drugs I did.ā He leaned against their car as he took a longer drag.Ā
nicki had heard it enough from her parents, friends, and ex-girlfriend over the years. her diet was crap. it wasnāt about taste or flavor for her, it was about convenience. places like mcdonaldās were easiest. junk food was fast. microwavable food was convenient. she could have eaten a lot better but for nicki it was too much work. if she wasnāt at her parentās house, she relied on what she knew best. it wasnāt healthy in the least but her nuggets and fries were good and she tried to limit herself to once a day. tried.
of everyone she knew, no one gave her as much shit for it as ollie. sheād never seen someone get so upset over how often she resorted to her classic nuggets and it never bothered her. she laughed it off. she knew it was his way of showing he cared no matter what words the message was delivered with. nicki liked oliver prince and he wouldnāt be able to shake her. an easy laugh falls from her lip, ā i havenāt seen you in a few days, i missed my fave grump. ā she can see the way he looked at her food, the tight jaw. nicki could already hear what came out of his mouth before he verbalizes it. ā iām here for a good time, not a long time. ā she muses, grabbing a fry and exaggeratedly biting into it for effect. ā mmmmā¦ ā

Iām drawn to characters that challenge me. Even while Iām really interested in playing female characters that are varied and interesting and dynamic, Iām not of the mind that you always want to play strong female characters. I think I just want to play characters that are interesting, and not all people are āstrong.ā

What one memory from your childhood stands out?
one thing i always had different from people i grew up with was two birthdays. i had the day i was born and the day my adoption was final. my parents always thought both were worth celebrating. i always knew i was adopted before like.. fully knowing what that meant. i just thought other parents didnāt care enough to celebrate their kidsā other special day. anyways, we still celebrate both days.

what's your favorite drink to make? least favorite?
least favorite is anything boring like martinis, cosmos, gin and tonics. yeah, theyāre simple and classics but it just tells youāre a snooze. i personally enjoy making any kind of flaming cocktail or anything that involves bomb shots. theyāre fun and you get to put on a little show. itās vegas, everything should be flashy!
