14. Your OC talking about your favorite quest.

They were, dead maybe? Dying? I think maybe Dreamers too? Spirits? Just intense memories, maybe. I don’t really know. I just- When I tried getting closer, no one was happy. No one was happy, in general. Adamant sucked dick, and not in the fun way, and the Fade was so so much worse.It kept pulling things out of our worst nightmares, making them real and way too vivid. It preyed on our better natures too. It’s why everyone said not to, said I shouldn’t go near them. I mean, they found me last. I don’t know what else they saw before that but they thought it was just another trap, another trick from the Nightmare. 

Mahre actually said that the loudest, dug his fingers into my arm to try and pull me away from them. His loss, I still went.

‘cause, you know, they were crying. I- I don’t think I heard them, not exactly. You didn’t hear things in that place so much as you just felt them. And it was like that kind-of terror that clings to your skin like a hot day, that makes it hard to breath, like there’s never been enough air for your lungs. I could feel that all around them, panicking, begging, pleading, just… frantically scratching their final wishes into the Fade itself. How do you ignore that? How do you leave without even trying to help?

So, yeah. I couldn’t, didn’t. The first one went okay, they wanted a light. Another just wanted proof that something can survive a Blight. I found them some bright flowers in the water. They smelled like lightning and sulfur but even still, the dreamer spirit thing hugged them to their chest with a sob. Happy sob, I think. I hope.

Did I tell you how much Mahre hated that too? Every time I found another one begging for help, his visage slipped more. He got more angry, more vicious, got more eyes, more teeth, longer sharper nails- Kept asking why I was doing this? ‘Why help them? Why not help your friends? You know, the people you supposedly care about? They’re terrified, Mir'u. They don’t like these things, so why are you helping them? Ignore them, blah, blah, blah!’ Wordy fuck doesn’t ever shut up.

And okay, I get his point! But, those things were scared too! They were also stuck there, you know. We’d get out. We’d live to see another day, always did, always will. But those things, whatever they were, the Fade was all they’d know from here on out. That Nightmare was feasting on them and, what? With a small ounce of effort, I could stop that? Like, wow, the hardest choice to make, yeah? Urgh. It was the right thing to do, don’t care what he said or told everyone else.

You know. They give me something too, before we met the Nightmare itself. I think it’s a stone. Like it’s small and sparkles and it feels stonelike. But it’s …weird too. Like when things get really loud, when Mahre’s voice won’t leave me alone, when things just seem to pile and pile and pile on and I feel like I’m nothing but static haze, gasping for air, for something that’s real- I can hear it. It’s quiet but I hear it, a sweet song that drowns out all that noise like a lullaby. 

Sometimes, rare times, I swear it sounds like Toorye too.

Maybe it’s like a thank you, like a token thing to help ease my thoughts like I did theirs. Hopefully that’s what it is 'cause I’ve definitely gonna make something out of it. Why not, Dagna said she helped too. So, fingers crossed that it goes well, yeah?

I know that The Descent DLC was designed to be post game, aka after Solas left but holy fucking shit now there’s a really fucked up hilariously dark in game reason why Solas does not utter a god damn WORD of banter or commentary during that entire DLC.

Another thought! The skeleton scars are my favorite cosmetics in the game, so must use them. But I’m kinda liking the idea of them still being a scar but in the shape of someone hugging Knives from behind instead of an overlay of anatomy.

Idk, I can just see it being a ‘gift’ from Creativity. Either as the thing that broke the camel’s back and caused Knives to break up, or being a spiteful last goodbye from Creativity after the break-up. Because I do like them as scars! o: And scars caused by a spirit seem like an interesting notion?? Idk tho.

The DA2 crew deserved these team meetings. They would have had even worse arguments. Made fantastic use of all being in the same room to argue each other's ears off at the same time.

Veiltober - day 5, Taash

Taash!!! I know so little of you, and yet I love you so much already. Seriously can't wait to meet her and talk to her T^T Romance as well... I wonder if she would sweep me off my feet. She's taller, so it'd be awkward otherwise, you know.

I am a little obsessed with the idea of Knives + Creativity just being like chaotic and semi-turbulent exes. Every time they met again, it’s all peacocking and clever little insults. Creativity is like ‘found anyone who has loved you as much I did yet? :)!’ And Knives is just like ‘this again? Why are you so trite? :l’

Which, I imagine, is one of more insulting things you could say about Creativity.

But also, there’s Knives in the Crossroads and ducking around corners because ‘no time for the ex!’ and everyone is like ‘there’s just spirits here??’ It’s how everyone learns Knives has indeed fucked a spirit before.

Or two, three tops.

So. I had a devious thought about Mir’s twin brother Mahrenan. He is basically a bully and tyrant and never grows beyond that, so he’s basically perfect fodder for the Gods. And I don’t think he’d be able to resist the lure of power.

Sorry (not sorry), Mahrenan. I don’t think you’re getting out of Veilguard alive. :(

No spoilers here. I wanna sit on my thoughts a bit more and play around, but I did have a lot of fun and I’m eager to fuck around some more with options. c:

I am pretty damn sure that Knives will end up being my canon Rook because it just fits?? So well in my head??? And I love it??? So, maybe a Knives ramble instead since this only came about yesterday, but it feels right! In the way Mir felt right and Revelry felt right.

(All my warden feel right, they’re no help.)

So! Knives (which is short for ‘And Ninety-Nine Knives Gleamed In The Firelight’) is a little Qunari weirdo that I love. c:

His mother (maybe not Qunari, was always an elf in my mind hence why Knives is a bit short for a Qunari so we’ll see) is a Rivaini Seer and a a free spirit to boot~. Extremely charismatic, she had an endless line of lovers and absolutely loved conversing with spirits. When she had Knives, she figured they could use a new scene (one too many obsessive lovers back to home, whatcha gonna do?) and moved them to Treviso.

I imagine she also has a Chantry verse for a name, having grown up in a zealot Chantry family before being disowned and sent to a Circle when her magic appeared. Maybe Sorrow, short for Alike in Sorrow. I think the verse would hit her hard, hard enough to make it her own.

Mhm. Neither of them are devote, far more ‘heretic’ by the Chantry’s definition if anything. The names are partly cover, partly aesthetic and partly a reminder of sorts. That parents had demand unreasonable perfection from their offsprings aren’t to followed, gods included.

Knives’ upbringing was fun! :D

Anywho! Heresy aside, Knives grew up very loved by his mother, though rarely had any long-term friends outside of her and her spirit friends. He liked conversing with them too a lot though? Definitely had a chaotic love affair with a Spirit of Creativity in his youth, as one does.

I imagine Antiva did him a lot of good too, given how much aesthetic and style makes Knives effortlessly happy. Skeleton motifs and gold for days! He loves it!!! He’s very indulgent, though it’s more experiences and emotions that he enjoys to partake in. He likes to feel, be it joy or sorrow, rage or grief, ecstasy or pain.

(Momma!Knives likes to joke maybe she shouldn’t have let some spirits in while she was pregnant because Knives has a odd spirit vibe at times but honestly? Knives is just more quiet albeit just as wild and emotional version of her. So!)

He just enjoys to be open with himself, though this leads him to having the air of …well, being an air-head at times. Probably why people underestimate him. :’)

Knives loved being recruited by the Crows. Training was torture, but you know, Knives likes to feel all the ugly and rotting just as much as beautiful and shining. His contracts end in …very theatrical ways, because Knives believes everyone should experience a show before they leave the stage (so to speak).

It probably is why he’s being 50/50 with the Crows, lol. Very talented, will get the contract done absolutely but it will be on the absurd side, for sure! Plus, he’s very open. Everyone knows about his jealous spirit ex. Everyone has questions for Knives floating in their eyes, but Knives is just like ‘yeah it’s so silly of them. We broke up like a year and a half ago. :)’

And that’s all I have without diving into spoilers. I really don’t know who he’d romance if anyone. Knives likes to sidestep my attempts but we’ll see. c:

I do like the arc in my head for him tho, especially relating to some shit that happens. It’ll be fun to explore it more. >:3!!
