Still in his James from Team Rocket Wearing A Dress costume, Nic looked up towards the other person walking the walk of coolness (formerly known as the walk of shame.) He might as well strike up conversation. “Long night, huh? I know you just said that but I’m bad at openers.”

Carson woke up on the floor of her foyer still in her devil costume from last night. Her friends threw her a huge costume party in honor of her twenty-fifth birthday. She only remembers bits and pieces of the night before but from what she can remember, she had a blast. Not sure how she got home, nor really caring, she threw on some shoes and made her way to the coffee shop. “Extra large coffee. Dark roast,“ she said when she got to the front of the line. “Black. “Oh, well, then…” She glanced down at the ten meter radius he mentioned and did a small circle. She could not imagine digging around in the garden at the park for fun. Or at all. “What is behind this lock that is so important?” She asked becoming increasingly more curious about this key. “I’m old and tired, I can’t outrun children, but that doesn’t seem to be the problem at the moment anyways.”

“I have a storage-locker-thing where I keep my art? Like, it’s not a big deal, and the key isn’t labeled so it’s not a huge deal if I don’t find it, but I’m honestly a bit prideful and want this tiny cat keychain that’s in it.” If he told more people about it he might overcome the laziness in him that wanted to just drop the search altogether. “You don’t look old and tired, don’t be a coward and run from those children. They’re short and clumsy.”

     “….— Nic.. I love you with my entire heart. But please tell me you did not burying the key to the place we had once shared in a public park?” Even saying the question out loud it seemed ridiculous. And also absolutely something he would do. “I could have been murdered!”

“Oh, don’t worry, it’s just the storage locker where I keep all the valuable things I have. Like my savings. I hate banks, they have long lines. But if I gave it to you, there’s a chance my coworkers would come ask you for it, because it also works on my work locker, and I didn’t trust them with the key to almost all my valuable things, so I thought, hey, pirates hid treasures, and no one will know. So, yeah, you probably wouldn’t be murdered. Probably, the risk of murder by buried key is low, but never zero..” It kind of worked on the bathroom, but he was busy digging one hole, he wasn’t about to dig another one.

And whether it was the close to two hundred years that had passed since her mother died, or all the champagne she’d consumed tonight, it barely even stung anymore. “Either. Both. I’m also accepting favorite colors and favorite Sex and the City girls. That’s as good as a personality trait nowadays, right? Or was it Friends characters?” 

“Would it be very stereotypical if I said red? It’s just a sexy color. But I like purple too, maybe purple deserves it more. I haven’t watched Sex and the City, but my favorite from L World is Shane. Friends is Phoebe, but I’m not sure how that’s managed to stay relevant, mortal time is strange. I don’t remember who was president but I remember they were on a break.”

“If it was important, why did you bury it? Better question, why did you bury it and not make yourself a treasure map for this exact moment?” She thought for a moment. She hadn’t been in this park in ages, but she tried to think of her favorite spot. “By the swings?”

“I did pin my location! I know it should be between that lamp there, and that lamp there, but it was pretty dark, so I just know it’s somewhere near these flowers. Which is good because it’s just a ten meter search radius, but it sucks because it’s a ten meter search radius for a mini key. I mean, I can pick the lock, but then someone else might find the key. If they haven’t already, that is. The swings would’ve been a good place to burry them, though. Kids don’t snitch. And if they do, you can outrun them.”

“Oh, the Hex Girls! I couldn’t place where I knew the costume from.” Harley hadn’t really put it all together until the other person said Scooby Doo. Now it all made sense. But he didn’t know how to react to the stranger’s….threat? Or was it a joke? He decided to avoid commenting on that part. “Until we cry? I never really thought of Scooby Doo as an emotional cartoon.”

When the other recognized the costume, Nic’s expression instantly softened. “I mean, it’s really not! But if we watched it for, say, forty years on repeat, we would probably cry when we’re done? You might have a point, though. It’s objectively amazing, so it would be ultimately super enjoyable.”

“What the fuck are you even talking about, dude?” Chandler asked with a groan. “I’m not watching Scooby Doo with you. I’m here to get drunk and make out with hot people”

“I’m like, the hottest of  people, and I would never make out with anyone that’s too good for scooby doo. I’m sure most people would feel the same way, too.” He said, before turning around, and yelling at the top of his lungs: “HEY EVERYONE! THIS GUY IS TOO GOOD TO WATCH SCOOBY DOO. NO SCOOBY SNACKS FOR HIM. NO YIKES, JINKIES OR JEEPERS. NO AMAZING DOOR CHASE SEQUENCES.”

“They sound cool,” Gavin nodded, not minding the idea of a watch party at all. Even if he wasn’t usually the biggest fan of vampires. “Well, I appreciate that Nic. I honestly think it would ruin the movie night. But I seriously want to leave about these Hex Girls and see what makes them so special. I promise. You know fairies can’t lie!” 

"They are cool! I’m sure you’d appreciate them. They have a band and everything, but I didn’t bring a fake guitar because I always loose stuff.”  

“You can’t? Is that why your punch works so well? Are you like, naturally that way or is it about the punch too?”

“If you were an important key, where in this public park would I have buried you during a family emergency like two months ago?” Nic questioned out loud, as he gently lifted the dirt surrounding flower patches. He was full incognito, dressed as a gardener, since he’d gotten kicked out of the park the day before. Why would hiding treasures in public property be a crime, anyway? Laws were stupid.   @vestahqs​

“First date? So you met all the friend group? At their play date? Why? Are they, like, codependent or something?” Nic said, already cherishing the randomness of the anectode. Fuck, he’d missed Vesta. 

Hayley slapped her hand down on the bar. “Shots. Keep them coming.” Resting her head against the bar, she spoke out loud, not even caring if the person around her heard. “Did you know that Dungeons and Dragons is an acceptable first date? Because I sure as fuck did not.”

“Oh please, what could they do?” Ethan waved off the other’s warning, never really scared of the humans who lingered around. “You should understand that, no? Fangy?” He noted the drink in the other’s hand, “I see you’re not afraid of a little fairy punch either huh?”

“Sue you? Maybe tweet about you? I mean, nothing too bad I guess, but they’re annoying, that’s for sure.” He shrugged, and chuckled at the nickname. “Well, it’s a fairy party might as well drink fairy juice, I’m no party pooper. Or afraid of a little honesty. What about you?”

“I mean, I- I- I- have, I’ve seen Scooby Doo. A lot of Scooby Doo, but I don’t remember The Hex Girls…” Gavin admitted, sinking back at the treats of being turned into a vampire familiar, his wings flapping nervously and quickly at the though. “I will watch everything, just don’t drink my blood.”

“They appear in a few of the movies, and they are amazing. They are a girl band and they have vampire fangs and you’ll know more in our watch party.” Nic wondered wondered if their threat was disproportionate, before shrugging the thought away. Being a vampire was great. “I won’t, Gavin. Not if it bothers you so much. The Hex Girls wouldn’t like it.”

Sienna shrugged, an apologetic smile on her face, “I was more of a Totally Spies girl, I’m afraid. Though now you’re making me feel like I totally missed out.” She bit down on her lip, trying not to laugh at her terrible joke. “As much as I’d love to see you try to catch me, I’ll watch it with you! So long as you provide snacks.”

“I don’t really know what Totally Spies is. I’m not sure I’m okay with ranking it with the Hex Girls. But, you’re good for now. Just make sure to text me what snacks. And I’d also be super good at catching you, so don’t dare me. Because I totally can. I just don’t want to, because I just sat down.”
