The History of Toowoomba City, QLD 4350
Toowoomba is an historic city in the state of Queensland, Australia. It is known for its beautiful culture and lifestyle. It is the site of one of the most amazing festivals in the country, which is the Flower Festival therefore earning the city its nickname as the Garden City. Toowoomba is a part of Aubigny County and it is one of the most visited places in the Darling Downs region of the state.
The history of Toowoomba dates back to the early 19th century when Drayton was settled. Today this site is one of the major suburb of the city. The Giabal and the Jarowair were the Aboriginal Australians dwelling in the area during this period. Allan Cunningham was the first European to arrive in the area of Darling Downs in 1827. Thirteen years later, the part of Darling Downs named The Springs was settled and later it was renamed Drayton.
The community of Drayton expanded towards the end of the 19th Century, forming the town of Toowoomba and the arrival of William Horton played a major role in its development as he established the Royal Bull's head inn. Horton is referred to as the Father of Toowoomba even though he was not the first settler in the area.
Today, the city of Toowoomba is a major center for education as it houses numerous primary and secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions. It also has a thriving economy and it is home to Australia's largest mutual bank which is FK Gardners and Wagners
