fr it's hilarious though, because the way i write merrin, this is coincidentally also the way she feels about cal. just saying.

walks by her, stops, kisses her cheek then continues on walking as if nothing happened.

she thinks his easy, open affection will always be a little stunning to her. always have her catching her breath and warm all over. burning violet blooms on the high point of her cheek, the press of his lips feeling like a brand. he's already half a dozen meters away by the time she comes back to her senses.

it takes no thought, and less effort, for merrin to breathe out and disappear on the breeze, and burn back into existence exactly toe to toe with cal.

❝not so fast, jedi,❞ she says without missing a beat, one palm splayed against his chest, pale skin beneath stark tattoos. her other hand curls around the back of his neck, tugging him closer until she can slide her lips against his, gentle and teasing and insistent all at once. and when she finally pulls away, breathless and fighting a grin, it's only so far that she can still count each shade of green in his eyes.
