Sleepless Nights {{newsie x reader}}

Jack

When you have a bad dream, Jack always wakes up before you do. He can just sense that somethings wrong, even if the bad dream isn’t causing you to toss and turn

His first resort is always to squeeze your shoulder, and if you don’t jump, he’ll slide his hand down your arm and over you, holding you tight and gently reassuring you that he’s right there

And if you are a little jumpy, he’ll hold off for a little bit but whisper comforting words until you calm down

And once your calm and you’re in his arms, he’ll hum the tune of Santa Fe until you fall back asleep

Crutchie

Crutchie’s a pretty good sleeper, not ever really sleeping too heavy or too light, but like Jack, he can sense when something’s up. He may not always wake up in time to wake you up from a bad dream, but once he is awake, he won’t fall back asleep until you do

He’s a worrier, and doesn’t take jumpiness very well. He’s always afraid he’ll make things worse, so he always approaches you gently 

Once you’re awake, he’ll get you to face him so he can wipe away any tears that have fallen

As you calm down, he’ll kiss you on the forehead and ask you if you want to talk about it

If you do, his eyes never leave yours, listening patiently as you talk through it. And if not, he never pushes you to, instead he just pulls you close to him and buries his head in the crook of your neck, waiting until you fall asleep to relax again.

Davey

Davey’s a softie when it comes to you, and he’s especially soft when he needs to comfort you. So when you wake up crying, he’s tender in shushing you and gently wiping your tears away

Suuuuper big on kisses. When you can’t stop thinking about the terrible dream you had, he’ll kiss you to distract you from it. When you finally come down, he kisses your nose and promises he’s right there beside you

He always wants to know what’s wrong in hopes he can somehow keep your bad dream from ever happening again, because it kills him to see you upset over something he can’t directly fix

He knows enough about psychology to explain some of the things that occur in your bad dreams and talks you through them so you understand that they’re rational 

And once you’re both ready to go back to sleep, he always stays up just a little longer to make sure you don’t wake up again

Race

Race is a heavy sleeper. Sometimes it takes you having to wake him up in order for him to be able to comfort you but once he’s awake, his hands are immediately on your face, soothing you and wiping away any tears

Super big on comforting words. He’ll run his hands all over your arms, your back, and your face while whispering, “Are you alright? What’s wrong? You’re okay, I’m right here with you. I’m not going anywhere. I’m right here”

He cries a little bit if he can’t get you to calm down quickly

But once you finally settle, he wants to hear everything about it, while gently running his fingers through your hair and brushing your cheek with his thumb

If you have trouble falling back asleep, he’ll get up and fix you a warm drink to help, and once you’re finished, he’ll wrap you up and tell you stories from the top of his head until you finally get back to sleep.
