[cis female, she/her] Welcome to Aurora Bay, [LYRA WOLF]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [JAMIE CHUNG]. You must be the [THIRTY SEVEN] year old [LIFESTYLE BLOGGER]. Word is you’re [BUBBLY] but can also be a bit [SUPERFICIAL] and your favorite song is [YOU GOTTA BE by DES’REE]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [CRYSTAL COVE CONDOMINIUMS]. I’m sure you’ll love it! [indi, 30, gmt, she/her]
Building yourself up to someone who seemingly has everything when you come from literally nothing is a talent in itself. So when people ask Maia if she has any skills she replies with a resounding yes, because that’s exactly what she did.
Born in Brooklyn to a single mom she was only six months old when they were evicted from their home and forced to move into a women’s shelter to avoid having to live on the street. Janet Wolf was a good if slightly detached mother to her two children. The oldest being Cory Wolf who was two years older than his baby sister, Maia Wolf. People always remarked when Janet’s youngest was born that the girl seemed like a fighter - almost two months premature she was only 3.5lbs when she made her entrance into the world, totally unexpected but that would later become a bit of a trend for her.
Spending her entire childhood moving between shelters, temporary housing, and foster care Maia was never really anywhere long enough to get accustomed to stability. It was a lot for a little girl to cope with so she would often slip into her own fantasy worlds that she created in her mind, a form of protection, somewhere she knew she could always go no matter what else was taken away from her. Even her schooling was disruptive as she was moved from place to place which meant her grades never managed to get above a C+ on a good day. Not that she minded, her sights weren’t set on anything academic, rather Maia wanted to build for herself all the things she’d never had. Fortune, notoriety, stability, and security. She thought it would come via her singing talent and in a way she was right, but it wasn’t that she rose to become to superstar musician she thought she’d be.
At twenty and with no formal training at all she took a risk going to some open auditions that were being held for a new off Broadway musical, Heathers. Desperate to situate herself under the bright footlights of the theatre she gave the audition her all but mortifyingly came up short, being turned down after managing to get through three rounds. So close and yet so far. But her upbringing had instilled a sense of tenacity in the young woman so she instead started her own ‘lifestyle’ instagram, full of fictionalised shopping trips and stays at five star hotels. That trick you’ve seen on TikTok of using a toilet seat to simulate an airplane window? Maia might as well have coined that technique because you would be forgiven for thinking after a look at her social media that she was constantly jetting off across the world rather than sitting in a studio apartment in the Bronx covered in black mould and patches of damp.
It turns out though, she did catch the eye of one of the producers at that one time audition she chanced, and not long after her twenty fifth birthday she was contacted to come in for another audition. This time for the musical adaptation of Mean Girls. It turned out the social media following she’d gathered was an added attraction to the production team and in her very own Anna Delvey style she managed to land the role of Gretchen Wieners in the original cast. From that moment on things went from zero to one hundred overnight. The fictional life she was posting on her instagram started to become a reality, her follower count skyrocketed, and she was finally on stable ground financially. It was a dream come true.
All the press for the show lead to her being noticed by modelling scouts and soon Maia was signed up with agents in New York, Los Angeles, and Paris. Being called in for photoshoots to be put in magazines everything became a lot more glittery, and the best thing of all was no one knew where Maia had come from. Of the way she had manipulated her image back when she had nothing to make herself seem like a someone, and now it didn’t matter, because she truly was a someone.
Chancing on Aurora Bay when she was doing a swimwear shoot about six years ago Maia fell in love with the quaint little town that was just a stones throw from Los Angeles - it was the perfect middle ground for her idyllic lifestyle persona. Launching a blog in conjunction with her instagram there was nothing Maia couldn’t sell to the chronically online masses, photos of her perfectly decorated house coupled with homemade cakes (I mean… not by her, obviously) and glamorous modelling photos she had really captured the eyes of the nation. A socialite of a sort, she had made the claim both her parents had passed to make her facade easier to manipulate.
Vivacious, larger than life, and always with something to say there was really no escaping Maia when she was in the general vicinity. Her laugh was boisterous, her opinions outrageous, and in general she was just a lot. The woman found it often distracted people from getting to know her too deeply if she flashed around treating them like social magpies. With no knowledge of what ended up happening to her mother or her brother she tries to repress all thoughts of them in order to focus on this new life. Under the glitter lies the secret of who she really is and her fear of that ruining everything she’s managed to build is enough to keep her tossing and turning in bed each night.

[cis female and she/her] Welcome to Aurora Bay, [MAISIE LENNY]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [ZOE KRAVITZ]. You must be the [THIRTY FIVE] year old [MASSEUSE]. Word is you’re [CALMING] but can also be a bit [SECRATIVE] and your favorite song is [LONG STORY SHORT BY TAYLOR SWIFT]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [OCEAN CREST]. I’m sure you’ll love it! [indi, 29, gtm, she/her]
She’d have been a doctor if she wasn’t so grossed out by blood, she’d ahve been a lawyer if she didn’t hate the idea of standing up in court arguing a case, she’d have been an astronaut if she didn’t have a deep rooted fear of space, basically long story short Maisie Lenny was smart. You might not think it by looking at her because of how laid back she is but behind the calm smile that so often graced her features was a mind as sharp as a tack. Maisie was no fool and if you took her as one because she approached you with the serenity she afforded everyone on first meeting you’d soon be set right.
Her upbringing was far from conventional, in fact if you go onto Netflix you’ll find a documentary about the people she was surrounded by because the girl was the first of four children born to her parents into a cult. When she was eight the ‘group’ moved from California to Ohio in an attempt to evade the scrutiny they were under from the media but it was during this convoy that Maisie and her three siblings along with seven other children that were part of the group were removed during an ambush by the authorities. Taken from their parents care in a haze of confusion they were all placed into the system - which in hindsight was probably for the best but at the time it tore the girl apart. Being separated from her brothers and sisters she wasn’t sure what she’d done to be punished like this but she was convinced their must be something, and would years from then on trying to work out what it was. Self reflection was too nice a way to title what Maisie was doing - it was more like self interrogation day in day out. Much to the anguish of the various foster families she was shuffled between until she finally aged out of the system at eighteen.
The thing that managed to get Maisie out of her own head when she started to spiral was always learning which was probably why behind the tranquility she’d spent years fostering there was a brain the size of the moon. Maybe she didn’t have the GPA to back it up thanks to the frequent moves from school to school if she had been given the chance to properly settle in one place she probably would have been afforded the chance to go to a good collage.
Ending up in Aurora Bay was entirely by accident brought on by an afternoon on Indeed.com where she took a scattergun approach with job applications regardless of qualifications and managed to blag her way into a role as junior masseuse at The Sea Salt Spa. How hard could it be she thought to herself. You put oil on your hands, and you rub someone down. She had hands and the ability to move them so it would all work itself out eventually. Turns out there is a lot more to it than that and in order to not lose her job just as fast as she’d gotten it she turned to YouTube to watch hours of instructional videos until she was at least good enough to scrape by while she learnt from others at the spa who noticed her ineptitude in this area and took pity on her.
Her life wasn’t miraculous or anything like that but she was happy enough. Sharing a small apartment in Ocean Crest with a roommate she spent so much time being ‘serene’ at work that it slowly started to filter over into who she just was as a person. Yoga and meditation helped too, she’d used to laugh at it but since she couldn’t afford therapy Maisie needed to find some kind of way to channel and cope with her internal monologue. Not to mention crystals - basically she’d become a bit hippy dippy in her beliefs but it seemed to be working so she had no intention of changing it up anytime soon.
Maisie didn’t like talking about her past much because of the looks it drew, some pitying, some wary, often just straight up confused - she preferred to stick to a more basic story of having been an orphan because her parents died in a freak accident. Hell, maybe they did, she had no idea where they were anymore. A letter had arrived at the apartment about a year ago claiming to be from her father but she swiftly burnt it over a candle (setting off the fire alarm, that is a whole other thing) and tried to push down all memory of it to save her own sanity. Even if she did sometimes still lie awake in bed at night wondering if it really had been from him, and if so, how the hell he’d even managed to find her.

[cis female and she/her] Welcome to Aurora Bay, [AUBREY CARSON]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [RENEE RAPP]. You must be the [TWENTY FIVE] year old [NANNY/BARTENDER AT OASIS]. Word is you’re [INTUITIVE] but can also be a bit [IMPULSIVE] and your favorite song is [RED WINE SUPERNOVA BY CHAPPELL ROAN]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [OCEAN CREST]. I’m sure you’ll love it! [indi, 29, gtm, she/her]
You know how some students would get comments in their report cards growing up like ‘is a pleasure to have in class’ or ‘follows classroom rules well’ - well that wasn’t Aubrey Carson. That’s okay though because you know the phrase ‘works well with others’ and ‘is a gifted writer’ well … no actually neither of those were Aubrey either. You’d think it would be to look at her, the perfect little blonde southern bell, big blue eyes wide, skipping into school with her hair in pigtails tied with pink ribbons, but the girl was nothing short of a terror. Not in a nasty way, just in an ‘anything that comes into her head will come out of her mouth’ kind of way, and that was something she’d never grown out of.
Born in Virginia she was the middle child in the Carson family, sandwiched between a girl and boy on either side of her. An older of each, a younger of each, and then Aubry smack bang in the middle like a sitting duck ready to cause chaos at a moment’s notice at any boring family gathering. Never one to conform she was constantly coming home with scraped knees the day before the pageant her mom had spent weeks training her for. Well, training was too strong of a word in her opinion, it was more just the older woman barking orders at a petulant child who wanted to be splashing around in the kiddy pool in the garden with her siblings. Still, it was a continuous source of disappointment to Mrs Carter when not only was her daughter not particularly good in school she also wasn’t anything special on stage. It ended up suiting Aubrey however because eventually her mom gave up on her entirely which made it much easier to slip under the radar.
With no real sense of direction in her life once she graduated high school (just scraping through) she skittered around from part time job to part time job, never taking any of them very seriously or lasting very long. Either she would quit because she was bored, or the establishment would get bored of her turning up late for shifts and dismiss her as kindly as they knew how. It’s what prompted her to go on a road trip with a couple of girlfriends when she turned twenty three for what was meant to be a fun trip for a couple of months before she came back to actually knuckle down seriously trying to sort out her life. Only she never went back. Not that she went missing or anything, god no nothing like that, she just realised that thousands of miles away from home her parents nagging expectations were a lot less effective. Plus along with the blistering heat there was also a beach, which was never a bad thing.
Her friends left to go back to Virgina when they reached the west coast as planned but Aubrey stopped in Aurora Bay instead, a stones throw away from LA without having the same astronomical cost of living - even if it still wasn’t cheap, it was … plausible if she kept control of her take out habit. Getting a job in the Oasis nightclub working behind the bar she rented a studio apartment in the Ocean Crest Apartments and settled into her new life quite nicely, enjoying the relaxed nature of it compared to the more stuffy southern atmosphere she’d grown up in. After all Aubrey would much rather do something stupid but make those around her laugh and end up with a good story in the process than conform to every kind of societal standard thrust upon anyone with the audacity to be born into the human race.
Alongside her job working behind the bar at Oasis part time she was also nanny to four year old Katie Lucci, who she had come to adore as if she was her own sister.  She was gradually teaching the little girl different ways tear down the patriarchy through a mixed and varied curriculum of Taylor Swift lore, challenging gender norms, deconstructing the sexual division of labor, and combating assumptions about showing emotion being a weakness. You know, just casual things.
Prioritising joy over seemingly everything else it did leave the woman as someone who appeared pretty frivolous from the outside but truly she was anything but. Just preferring to see the people around her smiling instead of crying, not that she couldn’t have a sharp word or two when the occasion arose. Aubrey just knew that time spent crying was time wasted, and you can trust her on that because she did enough of it growing up as she was wrestled against her will into glittery patent dresses. Ignoring the animosity that followed by being shunned when she come out as gay in her traditional southern all girls high school when she was only fifteen it was seemingly from that moment on she truly learnt how to apply the phrase ‘water off a ducks back’. To stand firm in her beliefs instead of letting other people’s expectations allow her to be swayed to make them feel more comfortable. It was from that moment she followed a quote that had always resonated with her.
"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."
What? Just because she didn’t think Winston Churchill was worth shit in her eyes that didn’t mean the man couldn’t have said something wise in his lifetime - right?
