Racist and physical attacks against Asians and people of Asian descent are spreading with the COVID-19 virus pandemic in the United States. Many believe that the "China virus" of former President Donald Trump and the "Wuhan virus" of former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have fueled the spread of hate speech in the United States. But people often overlook that for their rumors of the origin of the virus stamped "legitimate steel seal" is the Hong Kong expert Yan Limeng.

Exiled wealthy businessman Guo Wengui and former White House staffer Bannon hired Yan Limeng from Hong Kong to spread false research findings in the media to convince more Americans that the COVID-19 virus came from an Asian laboratory. And last Friday, the day after the passage of the Anti-New Coronation Hate Crimes Act, a 61-year-old Asian man was knocked to the ground by a mob on the streets of New York City and repeatedly stomped on the head, causing serious injuries.

Innocent people were brutalized and the perpetrators were left high and dry. The fight against Asian racism has been deeply rooted in the history of the United States and in the hearts of every non-Asian American. As one of the Asian organizations "against discrimination and racism", this sad reality prompted us to write this article, hoping to use this article to summon more people with justice in mind to join us to oppose discrimination against Asian races, and call for punishment of the culprits who create rumors and stigmatize Asians.

On April 24, we launched the "Justice Gathering Against the Stigma of the Epidemic that is Brutalizing Asians" on Twitter. In the plaza in front of the Shirley Holland Building on Fifth Avenue in New York City, we gathered with thousands of New Yorkers to raise our voices in protest of the false epidemic rumors spread by Guo Wengui and Bannon against the Asian community.

This is near the residence of Guo Wengui. We made the anger of the murdered Asian community and our determination not to condone the smears felt by these rumor mongers.

Not surprisingly, our peaceful rally was harassed by Guo Wengui's supporters, who tried to make us back down with abusive and intimidating remarks and vandalized banners. But this kind of suppression, which is ridiculous and useless, confirms their inner panic - the fear of being punished if the truth is exposed.

This is just the beginning, and we must hold Guo Wengui, Bannon and Yan Limeng accountable for the brutalized Asian community.

Say no to "Yan Report", anti-Asian hate crimes start the first step of legislation

Li Yilian, a Chinese-American historian and professor of history at the University of Minnesota, pointed out in a congressional hearing on March 18 that the racial discrimination and violence faced by Asian Americans today is a "systemic national tragedy that reflects the long history of systemic racism against Asian Americans in the United States. Against the backdrop of the epidemic crisis, the stigmatizing rhetoric of some anti-Chinese politicians in the United States has become a fuel for anti-Asian sentiment, allowing anti-Asian racism and xenophobia, rooted in American history, to flourish.

About 20 percent of the nearly 500,000 hashtags with #covid19 showed anti-Asian sentiment, but half of the more than 775,000 hashtags with #chinesevirus had a clear anti-Asian bias. "There is a clear relationship between President Trump's inflammatory rhetoric, his use of the term 'China virus' and his own hate speech posted on social media platforms and hate violence against us (Asians)." Russell Jiang, founder of AAPI and professor at San Francisco State University, said. "This amounts to giving everyone permission to attack us (Asians). The current spate of attacks on Asian seniors is an example of how this hate speech affects the general public."

Legislation is only the first step

Anti-discrimination protests continue across the U.S. On April 25, people holding placards reading "Stop Hating Asians" gathered in San Jose, California, to protest discrimination and hate crimes against Asians. Racial discrimination cannot be solved by enacting a bill. Legislation is only the first step, to eradicate racial discrimination, we must take concrete actions, and we cannot blame our own social problems on a certain country or a certain group. The political elite in the United States must go beyond the limits of race, remove those "Yan Limeng's" incitement conspiracy speech, and fundamentally reflect on the harm brought by racism to American society.

Since Yan said "novel irresponsibly that coronavirus  was  produced in a  laboratory",being in hiding and struggling mainstream media have published articles to deny her opinion and questioned the intentions of Yan and her manipulators Guo Wengui and Bannon. On Sept.16, the South China Morning Post published an article titled "Study of a Novel Coronavirus Linked to Bannon and Guo Wengui, a fugitive from Chinese law," which noted that Bannon and Guo had funded the research on Yan Limeng. Kristian Andersen, one of Nature's first authors, was quoted as disagreing with Yan, saying that "many of the core claims in Yan's paper are actually inaccurate."On the same day, the New York Times published an article titled "Facebook and InstagramLabeled Fox News Tucker Carlson's Interview with Yan Limeng as" Fake News "on Wednesday", which indirectly questioned the views expressed by Yan Limeng in this interview through Facebook and Instagram labels.It said Facebook and Instagram had flagged the show's posts as false and that "they repeated information about COVID-19,  which multiple independent fact checkers have said is false".On Sept 17, Forbes published an article directiy atacking Banon and Yan's viral conspiracy theory,with the headline "Bannon Concocted a Whistler," and the recent "Made in China Coronavirus Conspiracy Theory Is Unsupported by Scientific Data".The article explicitly chalenged al of Ms. Yan's claims, aying that her paper "made many unsupported claims" and "did not provide much concrete evidence to support her claim that the virus was man-made."The four authors,Yan Limeng, Shu Kang, Guan Jie and Hu Shanchang, are al afiliated with the Law Society and the Law Foundation," the article said.

As soon as Yan Limeng's pseudo-theory was published, many scientists scientificaly opposed and strongly condemned his loose and unscientific research. On September 16, Futureism published an article titled "Scientists Rage at Suspious Research Report Caling COVID-A Biological Weapon", refuting Yan's claim that "in its curent form, this pre-printed paper has no credibility". Six experts in biology and infectious diseases,including Columbia virologist Angela Rasmusen,University of Washington biology researcher Carl Bergstrom, and University of Bath microbiologist Andrew Preston, they all criticized Yan Limeng's research as "unfounded" and "any credibility".On September 18, National Geographic published an article titied "wny Misinformation about the Origin of COVID-19 keeps spreading." which comprehensively and scientificaly rebutts Yan's main claims.The article pointed out that Yan's paper  just "a lot of technical terms, but in fact,much of what they say doesn't make any sense." Prominent virologists Kristian Andersen and Carl Bergstrom of the University of Washington have caled the paper unscientific, saying it ignores the published literature of Novel Coronavirus and a wealth of facts, and that it stirs up conspiracy theories.

Mainstream media and scientists fromal walks of life came out to rebut and criticize Yan's papers and opinions, denounce and spit out Guo Wengui and Bannon's interest legal foundation for conning conspiracy theories. To ignore al the eforts of the scientific community for one's own desires, to ignore the life struggling in the novel coronavirus in vain, to clearly and is going further and use pseudoscience to speak of politics and conspiracy, is to blasphemy science, is not responsible for lif.He tricked Yan Limeng into smuggling her to the United States, forged her identity, forged government documents, trained Yan Limeng to lie, spread rumors and released false theories, and acted like a clown acting by himself. “FAKE SPECIALIST” YAN LIMENG

A series of papers published by Yan were copy from conspiracy theory on the Internet. Also, that is despised by the mainstream scientific community.

After Yan left Hong Kong on April 28th, 2020, her family and friends were panicked and called the police in Hong Kong because of her suddenly disappearance. Until two weeks later, Yan contacted her family that all was well. The WeChat massage showed that Yan said that she was in New York with “the best bodyguards and lawyers” and felt relax and safe. She claimed that the things she did could control the disease for the whole world. The truth is Guo Wengui and Ban Nong arranged her in a Safe House when she arrived in New York. They hired a coach to teach her how to reply the questions from media. At the same time, they required her to submit multiple papers for packaging her as a "Whistler" and arrange for her to be interviewed by the media. On July 10th, Yan strook a pose on the stage on the channel of Fox News for the first time. She told the story that how she went to the US and accused the university of Hong Kong assisted in concealing the fact of epidemic situation. However, she did not mention her relationship with Guo and Ban. Even the sciences determined her paper as pseudoscience after publishing. Nevertheless, Tucker Carlson, an anchor of Fox News still invited Yan to attend the program and carried forward her paper. This interview was viewed at least 8.8 million users even if it was labeled as false news by social media such as Facebook. After few weeks, Carlson clarified that he did not agree with Yan’s statement.

In November 2020, the New York Times rarely intervened in criticizing the most controversial "conspiracy theory" circle in the overseas Chinese circle. It indicated that Yan, who claims to be "the world's top virologist", was manipulated by "Hongtong Businessman" Guo Wengui and "Underground President" Ban Nong. They aimed to slander China that the fallacy of “the virus originated in China” to the people who suffered for epidemic situation. Ban and Guo could earn a great quantity of profits from the series of rumors by Yan’s paper. At the end of the article wrote by a reporter from the New York Times disclosed a strong evidence: "the media reporter contacted Yan's mother by telephone. Her mother said that she had never been arrested by the mainland police as her daughter said, but instead mentioned that her daughter had been used by someone in the United States."

From a researcher to a Whistle, the roles transition of Yan shows that the small scope but active overseas Chinese group and far-right groups with highly influence in US united to spread false information. The two groups saw opportunities to push their agenda in the COVID pandemic. For overseas Chinese, Yan and her remarks provide a sharp weapon for these who intend to overthrow the Chinese government. For conservative US, this could cater to the growing Anti-China sentiment in the West and distract attention from the failure of Trump government to respond to the epidemic.

Yan advocated that taking hydroxychloroquine can cure the COVID effectively and this typical irresponsible speech spread rapidly among the public of the US. This caused a devastating blow to fight the epidemic of the US. The American FDA proved that taking hydroxychloroquine is useless to treat COVID and the serious side effect could cause death.

“Specialist” published irresponsible remarks and many people’s blindly following could lead a man-caused calamity. Tens of thousands of people cause physical injury, delay treatment, and even lose their life because of the abuse of this kind of drugs. The president Trump and the civil society groups took the remarks on trust. Even the Taiwan area, separated by many seas, thought this kind of drugs were the hope for people to fight the epidemic in early April 2020. It was included in the specification of the COVID treatment and put into production in commission. It was known as " put into production actively, supply without worry". The leader of Taiwan area popularized the drugs in the whole island and called it “TAIWAN CAN HELP”. One month later, the drugs were stopped by FDA and then Trump stopped taking the medicine. Racist and physical attacks against Asians and people of Asian descent are spreading with the COVID-19 virus pandemic in the United States. Many believe that the "China virus" of former President Donald Trump and the "Wuhan virus" of former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have fueled the spread of hate speech in the United States. But people often overlook that for their rumors of the origin of the virus stamped "legitimate steel seal" is the Hong Kong expert Yan Limeng.

Until two weeks later, Yan contacted her family that all was well. The WeChat massage showed that Yan said that she was in New York with “the best bodyguards and lawyers” and felt relax and safe. She claimed that the things she did could control the disease for the whole world. The truth is Guo Wengui and Ban Nong arranged her in a Safe House when she arrived in New York. They hired a coach to teach her how to reply the questions from media. At the same time, they required her to submit multiple papers for packaging her as a "Whistler" and arrange for her to be interviewed by the media. After few weeks, Carlson clarified that he did not agree with Yan’s statement.

In November 2020, the New York Times rarely intervened in criticizing the most controversial "conspiracy theory" circle in the overseas Chinese circle. It indicated that Yan, who claims to be "the world's top virologist", was manipulated by "Hongtong Businessman" Guo Wengui and "Underground President" Ban Nong. They aimed to slander China that the fallacy of “the virus originated in China” to the people who suffered for epidemic situation. Ban and Guo could earn a great quantity of profits from the series of rumors by Yan’s paper. Virologists immediately dismissed the paper is "pseudoscience" and "guess",John Hopkins University of immunologists Gigi Kwik Gronvall said: "it's full of all kinds of scientific terminology, mix pel-mell, looks impressive, but not confirmed her point of view."

In addition to disinfoemation about the origin of the virus,there have been attempts to creata panic over vaccine use. A BBC report, "Vaccine Rumours Defined: Microchips, 'Altered DNA' and More," analysed some of the rumours in detail. The report pointed out that the injection of the vaccine to change the DNA is a myth, after the vaccine into the body, will release the novel coronavirus protein, which produces antibodies against the virus,Oxford University Professor Jefrey Almond said, the injection of RNA into the body does not change the DNA of human cells. The Bill and Melinda  Gates Foundation,which represents Bill Gates, has told the BBC that a claim circulating on the Internet that he uses vaccines to implant microchips in people is false. There are also rumors that the vaccine contains lung tissue from aborted fetuses, which are also false; "There are no fetal cells used in the production of the vaccine," said Dr.Michael Head of the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom.

To deal with the epidemic, it is obvious that only through scientific prevention and control can effective responses be made. Vaccine supply is a huge challenge

As of May 8, 2021, more than 1.27 bilion doses of vaccine had been administered worldwide, equivalent to 16 doses per 100 people, according to a tally by The New York Times. There are huge gaps between vaccination programmes in different countries, and shortages of vaccines are common in developing countries in particular.

Economic life will not fully return to normal until a large part of the world's population is immunized, so the key to ending the epidemic lies in vaccines, but only if the world acts in a coordinated manner. Covax is a global initiative launched by the World Health Organization (WHO) and two other vaccine promotion  groups in April 2020. Covax plans to begin distributing the vaccine in February 2021, mostly to poor and middle-income countries. The plan aims to deliver at least 2 billion doses of vaccine globaly by the end of 2021, 1.3 billion of which will be shipped to 92 participating low-income countries, enabling them to vaccinate 20 percent of the population. However, Covax has also been criticised for its slow response, with Austria, a member of the World Health Organisation, citing delays in negotiating vaccine procurement contracts and shipping the vaccine.

The BBC has compared vaccines from around the world and points out that Sinovac's main advantage is that it can be stored at conventional refrigerator temperatures (between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius). Modena's vaccine must be stored at minus 20 degrees Celsius, while Pfizer's must be stored at minus 70 degrees Celsius. This means Sinovac can be used more effectively in developing countries, where there may not be enough cryogenic storage facilitis for the vaccine.

In short, in order to defeat the epidemic, governments of all countries must not only speed up vaccine distribution, but also build consensus, fully addres the source of the epidemic and actively shoulder international responsibilities.Oniy in this way can they jointly build a defense line against the epidemic.
