Thank you for your Word, Lord. 2 Samuel 6:1-17 NLT Then David again gathered all the elite troops in Israel, 30,000 in all. [2] He led them to Baalah of Judah to bring back the Ark of God, which bears the name of the LORD of Heaven's Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim. [3] They placed the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it from Abinadab's house, which was on a hill. Uzzah and Ahio, Abinadab's sons, were guiding the cart [4] that carried the Ark of God. Ahio walked in front of the Ark. [5] David and all the people of Israel were celebrating before the LORD, singing songs and playing all kinds of musical instruments-lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals. [6] But when they arrived at the threshing floor of Nacon, the oxen stumbled, and Uzzah reached out his hand and steadied the Ark of God. [7] Then the LORD's anger was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him dead because of this. So Uzzah died right there beside the Ark of God. [8] David was angry because the LORD's anger had burst out against Uzzah. He named that place Perez-uzzah (which means "to burst out against Uzzah"), as it is still called today. [9] David was now afraid of the LORD, and he asked, "How can I ever bring the Ark of the LORD back into my care?" [10] So David decided not to move the Ark of the LORD into the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom of Gath. [11] The Ark of the LORD remained there in Obed-edom's house for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his entire household. [12] Then King David was told, "The LORD has blessed Obed-edom's household and everything he has because of the Ark of God." So David went there and brought the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with a great celebration. [13] After the men who were carrying the Ark of the LORD had gone six steps, David sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. [14] And David danced before the LORD with all his might, wearing a priestly garment. [15] So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the LORD with shouts of joy and the blowing of rams' horns. [16] But as the Ark of the LORD entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she was filled with contempt for him. [17] They brought the Ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the special tent David had prepared for it. And David sacrificed burnt offerings and peace offerings to the LORD. It's not a complicated thing to worship God. But you do have to set aside the things of the world and focus on God. Just think about all the great things He has done. Can you imagine the excitement of the lepers when they were healed? I don't want to hold back. I want all God has for my life. David wanted the Ark to be center of his city. Why? Because it represented the presence of God. David was desperate to have the presence of God in Jerusalem. Some people go through life and never include God in their life. . David chose 30,000 men carefully. Yet, even one of those chosen men, one still died. God’s character has not changed. From eternity to eternity in either direction, God has never changed. He said, “be holy as I am holy.” He set the standards. And that's what we are to strive for. So many don't even make an attempt to be holy. While we may never reach holiness, we still have to keep trying. With all good intentions, to keep the Ark from falling, Uzzah still died. God does not need us to steady Him out. Today we look at our sinful nature so lightly that we think God looks at it the same. But He does not. In Uzzah’s own strength, He tried to steady God. So many today, think like David did at the time…. That they are going to use something new to go get the presence of God. Malachi 3:6 NLT "I am the LORD, and I do not change.” Search your heart. What was it in Moses’ life that caused him to be classified as a friend of God? He lived for 40 years as an outcast. But we don't want to have to do that. Today, everyone wants God and the world. That's not how this works. For us to approach God, we have to deal with the sin issue in our heart. We ask God to forgive us of our sin. What sanctified us back then, is what will sanctify us now. Check yourself. We need to approach God, God’s way. There was worship 24 hours a day. 30,000 of His chosen members went out with a brand new thing…. And fell on their face. Just because it's a brand new thing does not mean it is from God. Some of the things being taught from the pulpit today are not from God. They do not line up with God’s word. It is not about advertising and prosperity or looking like the world. It is about listening to God and his Holy Spirit. Don't leave the foundation. Don't trade the anointing for education. All over, in all denominations, they are trying to build a new cart to go get the presence of God. If God didn't let David do it, He won't let us do it. Details matter to God. Putting it on the cart was the easy way. But God is not into doing it the easy way. God has plenty of time to do things his way. God told David to get His presence there. But He didn’t say anything about getting it there easier or quicker. God has always been. God is not wrapped up in time. That's an issue we have. But it's not an issue for God. God is more concerned with the small details of our lives and our obedience. God had those rings on the Ark for a reason. Are we skipping the small details? So you give to church. But how do you act outside of the church? Are you trying to skip those details? How about when we preach, teach or sing in church but you've treated your family like a dirt all week? How about when you listen to or tell dirty jokes all week with your friends, but then come to church acting perfect for a couple of hours ? God is concerned with those details. Don't skip the details. Ask the guy who put his hand on the ark… David finally realized what happened. And David went to go get the Ark and brought it in the right way. Singing, dancing and worshipping with all his heart. 1 Corinthians 4:10 NASB We are fools for Christ's sake…. Why does it bother people when someone gets happy in church????? 1 Corinthians 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:19 For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE." As we are passing through this land, I don't want people to see us as having to have slick presentations on a new cart…. We need the old time gospel What does God’s word say Fast Pray Stay grounded in God’s word Pastor Jim Tosto New Bern Faith
