I remember the feeling of euphoria when Ireland beat Romania on penalties at Italia '90. Screaming down to the phone lines to the family in Ireland who had all gathered at the one house to watch the game; I couldn't yell loud enough, run fast enough, or jump high enough to express my joy.
It's hard to explain to my non-Irish friends what this man meant to us. At the time, other than a few decent boxers over the years, we were shite at all the international sports and our local sports were just that, local. Jackie changed that. Under the guidance of Big Jack, we arrived on the scene. We weren't going to be winning any of the cups any time soon (if we're being honest, and we still aren't), but we weren't the joke we had been before. We were the decent team that could upset your World Cup dreams.
So, thank you, Jackie Charlton, for everything. You were the friendly uncle to an entire nation, and we will miss you so much.
Rest In Peace big Jack Charlton, England legend, world cup winner. Irish hero.
yeah, google it America/Canada ;)
This was England’s Michael Jordan, or Wayne Gretzky , he was that famous in the whole of UK, but especially in Ireland (south)

At the start of working from.home due to COVID-19, I would take my regular coffee breaks at 10am. I'd sit on my couch and cuddle Tosio (my cat) for 15 mins. Except on Thursdays and Fridays when I had standing 10am meetings.
Well, Tosio got into the habit of cuddling at 10am and started joining me for those Thursday and Friday meetings, the first 15 minutes of which I'd conduct with my arms full of cat.
She started to associate the pre-meeting hold music and/or the phone on speaker with cuddles, and now she comes running for *every* meeting I have.
Here we are attending a team meeting:
And here we are learning about our company's new upgraded time tracker:
And attending a meeting with an external client (e.g. an important, professional meeting):
And today, we implemented Jira for our team:
She's attending so many meetings, I'm going to have to see about getting her put on payroll.

Seen in Mbour, Senegal by Sara Jabril
“Mbour is only a short trip away from bustling Dakar. Our house was a dream come true! In true Senegalese fashion, wrestlers came for their daily practice every afternoon. In the evenings, we were lucky enough to have fishermen return with their catch of the day.”— Sara Jabril

This Was Some Weird Shit…
Yesterday I was sitting outside reading a Leonard Cohen biography, and was at a point where the author was describing how Leonard was taking LSD as he wrote Beautiful Losers (no surprise there) when out of the sky, a small fish dropped onto the page of the book. Perhaps this is a sign that I should go to Greece, take acid and write the great Canadian novel?

Taiwan has also been very successful. They implemented a tracing system almost immediately, and did daily checkups on everyone who needed to isolate for 14 days upon entering the country. They encourage social distancing but they never had to shut anything down. My friends there continued to go out to coffee shops, restaurants, and pubs the entire time.
Is there anywhere in the world that's managed to handle COVID well and has not made mandatory mask wearing in public (or where it was already the norm)? I feel like everywhere in the world that has managed to deal with it well has and not doing so is an obvious blind spot in our COVID response =/
